I think it's a pretty different experience to binge the entire thing in just 2-3 days. It didn't feel slow to me, but if I had to wait a week for 20 minutes of show I would have hated it. I didn't mind the end just because in my mind nothing else would have been even remotely realistic for the show. Thanks for the review!!!

Honestly Alan's death wouldn' of been a terrible thing to do if it wasn't for the fact that the entire series was built around his determination and resolve to escape and fix his relationship with his family. Literally every single episode is about him in his mind going over his life and seeing his errors and wanting to fix them which drives his motivation to get free.... and then they kill him. The biggest issue is that the way he dies was completely out of character. Alan isnt stupid, the show has shown us this. He's thought of multiple ways to kill Sam but he is smart and realizes he is too old and weak to pull off any solution he thought of. Then suddenly in the finale he decides to threaten Sam's mom which he knew was a stupid idea. He was about to try the exact same thing on Sam's ex in episode 9 but didnt because he realized it wouldn't work, literally half of that episode was him talking to Charlie about that! It makes me feel like the writers just didnt know how to end it so they started doing random stuff

I think Alan knew it wasn't going to really work, but he accepted that he'd rather die than be chained to the basement floor for any longer.

My problem with the series, which I was at first very interested in, is that if you do not buy into the jewish existential philosophy that ( I think ) the writers were seeing as he main point, the whole series falls apart. Also I do not buy some of the more implausible stuff. Any fight between 2 males will leave some damage. The serial killer was mainly shown eating, not working out so even though young superhuman strength is unlikely - survival instinct kicks in- you bite you scratch, you kick the guy in the balls, you hit him with the shovel ( which Carrell had at one point) IF you are his father, you report him to the police and/or fight back. I just did not buy the superhuman strength aspect or the supposed inability of allegedly weaker older men to fight back. Most serial killers that strangle, strangle women. So if you do not buy the existential rationale, or the implausible superhuman serial killer, you are left with a series that had WAY too many graphic murders, that were lingered on. The finale was almost the nadir- I felt like I was watching a snuff film to be honest. It left me feeling somewhat contaminated-great acting but I would not recommend this to anyone.

That ending was such a buzzkill to a series i more or less really enjoyed. It felt like the entire series was pointless. I didn't care enough about the few side characters to feel some sort relief for them, let alone Sam and mom. I mean what was that? He's in perma time out and mom now has the burden of taking care of him even more than she already did. That solves nothing. Sam isn't solving or working thru any of his issues, he's lost in a delusion that this might help instead of turning himself in. Honestly really felt like i wasted my time by the end of it all :(. Really loved Steve Carell's performance.

This might be such a pedantic thing, but I hated how much makeup they decided to put on the Same actor. Any time he was on screen, it just ripped me right out - I couldn't unsee it. The show wasn't great, it was watchable

Nobody is talking about the mom, i thought her character sucked. Her acting was terrible no emotion, she was really annoying, and i couldnt sympathize with her at all. She watched him strangle that first guy, and the next morning all she has to say is "Im at my whits end" . Then when micheal scott was begging her to go stop him from killing his father, she says that everytime she is in this situation, she has a beer and relaxes to think about what to do next. Awful character and i hated her prescence. But other than her the show was bad, had a lot of potential and an interesting concept, but fell very flat. Steve carrell was a bad choice, and all the jew stuff was unrelatable and i couldnt really cling onto what they were talking about most of the time. But i did like gleeson very much, i think his character was great. Of all the things the show got wrong, his character worked for me. And the auschwitz stuff i think was very unnecessary and innapropriate, and i didnt understand its inclusion in the show

I agree on the stuff with Auschwitz, but I actually think the mom was a pretty interesting character. She had this total complex, and didn’t know what to do in the situation really because this is her son, but she doesn’t know how to stop/help him.

@@metersreviews really? Other people ai talked to that watched it said the same thing. She wasnt portraying her internal struggles good enough for me and she came across as this annoying weak character, too scared to stop her husband from beating her son, too scared to stop her son from killing. Shed rather let these people die and keep alan prisoner than do the right thing, which isnt even necessarily turning him into the police. And after everything ive seen from her, im supposed to believe that she is ACTUALLY going to keep her son chained up down there? She'll let him go the second he asks, hell she'll probably just do it herself the next morning.

What has his son to do with the story at the end? 🤔 Oké, I do like in the meanwhile that the father and his son had a better understanding while he was gone. I thought he was going to smash the vase on Sam his head and going to escape as he thought about it. And now he's dead, what the Fudge! It could be a great thriller series like Dexter, really hoped for. I love Dexter series! 😍 By the way one of the best review man! 👌 Subscribe!
