    I much appreciate the efforts Ableton crew has made to create such a powerful device, which basically has no alternatives on the market right now, but you really needed to work on it for one more year or so. So many software and hardware problems with it that a lot of people won't justify the price and be able to understand how awesome it is.

    @@isocarboxazid Me as well. I've bought Push 3 Standalone, really liked it in the standalone mode (not so much as a controller though, just not my thing, it makes everything slower in comparison to good old mouse and keyboard) and returned it due to array of QC/design issues on my specific unit, I'm not even talking about other people stories over the intenet. So yeah I love the standalone mode, but I will wait for another year or so.

    Are you serious, NO alterbatives???? Ever heard about the Akai MPC X, it was able to do this in 2017 and more, now with their latest MPC X SE, they made a push 3 look plain silly. The MPC series have alwats been standalone instruments, especially the X series. Not some flimsy small screen but a full 10.1" touch screen and complete control over onboard instruments, plugins and samples + it has always been an interface.

    I love this thing so much. The exact reasony why I didn't invest into Push 1 or 2 was the fact that it still needed to be near a computer to be useful. I just thought I'm quicker with mouse and a regular midi controller. But now? The game has changed. I bought the very first Push 3 that came into Czech Republic. Now it's a groovebox, idea sketcher, killer MPE controller and it turns out also a pretty awesome guitar effect unit. The optimization Ableton has done is crazy. I had some bonkers 30+ devices chains running safely at 64, some even on 32 samples of latency. That's like 2ms. Nothing. I've also played a gig with it (and planing to do some more). And the integration? The fact it remembers MIDI mapping between SA and control modes? The fact you can completlely pre-setup and pre-route your complex gig setup on a PC and then just drop it onto the standalone Live? Can't get enough of this beauty. ...and the replacable internal components are just cherry on the cake. For Ableton users, this is an endgame. A perfect piece of gear I think.

  • @noctucat

    @noctucat

    @@siddharths8008 We were blown away as well. Did not expect that. A friend came in with that nasty 30 devices long chain to essentially try to choke the Push 3 SA up. And we pretty much failed to do so. But on the other hand, it does make sense. These buffers are processed as a DPC interruptions, meaning, the processor attempts to stop whatever it's doing to prepare and hand over the audio in time. But when there's OS, Chrome browser and bunch of other apps running in the background, there's just a limited amount of power the CPU can dedicate to those DPC calls. Also there are other DPC calls from other devices. From your GPU, network card, webcams etc. They get in the way as well. (Especially GPU ones are really nasty.) By having the CPU solely for Ableton, there's essentially nothing it has to do between the audio DPC calls. (aside from graphics rendering ... and that I think is handled by the non-standalone chips anyway). So that's why it's able to run on such a low buffer sizes I think. Nevertheless, we were still stunned.

    Hey there people from Ableton, let me tell you my story. I’ve just recently switched from maschine mk3, to Ableton 11 and push 3. Only thing I don’t like about the workflow is how slow it is to browse sounds in push 3 compared to the NI ecosystem… with the new Ableton 12 browsing update, I hope it get’s mirrored in Push 3 so categories make it easier to find what we look for in order to keep the flow in our music making journey. Other than that, loving everything about it. Hope you listen to your customers. Greetings from Mexico City

    this review makes me think of Push3 as the apotheosis of Roger Linn''s vision for the the MPC...in the user manual of the MPC2000 he has a written statement where he describes the intention for his midi sampler player for the user to finally realize its power as a bona fide musical instrument. And the reviewer described this exactly at the end of the video. @05:50 which may seem fundamental today in the 2020s but in 1990/s when everyone was contesting the authenticity and musicality of samples and electronic music in general; that's a radical idea to put forth and spawn an industry of products in pursuit of that vision!

    @@RemmyMusic1 Exactly. I was really hoping they would blow us away after all this time, but they doubled-down on being restricted to a closed jam bubble thing...(focusing on Push 3 as an instrument, not a DAW...)........with no shift at all on putting it all together for a finished product. And btw, one would think that they could do a MAX vocal pitch correction....I mean, something ....anything.....for real world artists, songwriters, etc...

  • @Drrolfski

    @Drrolfski

    6 ай бұрын

    @@ChrisPBacon3000 While the current Push 3 definitely needs some arrangement capability (not unlike the Akai Force) you have to ask yourself how realistic it is to expect all the full Ableton Live DAW functionality to be shoehorned into a single hardware box without it becoming an exercise in endless menu diving. Standalone by design means being limited in screen estate and controls/knobs that you have to work with. So Ableton has to make choices here. And like the earlier versions of the Push, I think Ableton made the right choice here to focus on the Session View and instrument play part of using the DAW. Arranging, mixing, and mastering are tasks that typically work better on a computer where you have a big screen for a better overview and where you can use the precision of mouse input. In the end, it's a delicate balance between adding functions and keeping the experience fun and intuitive to get the Push 3 where it needs to be. But with a few more years of development, they should get there. Personally, I have always reviewed the Push 3 as a Gen 1 product. It's basically Ableton's first entrance into the groovebox market.

    The product is good and was a big challenge for sure (and real congratulations for that) but it's also (still?) limiting because it only includes Ableton's tools (instruments and effects): the day Ableton can include 3rd party VSTis and VSTs on the Push 3 then it will be possible to say we can do everything without the computer. Not yet the case, even if we hear it on the video. I'm only hoping it can come on Push 3 OS updates later on and I'm pretty sure that's what you (Ableton) want as much as we (musicians) do... 😉

    Biggest thing missing is tactile encoders and scissor switches for all buttons except the pads. Pads are perfect. Please don't touch the pads. Also please put a finger pad shaped divot in the jog wheels.

    It does. The head of hardware guy talked about it in another interview. "Like other hardware companies, we learn and improve as we go. This includes the selection of components, the materials we make our hardware with and aesthetic choices like paint and finish. We evaluate our choices from both durability and sustainability angles. One example is moving to a water-based paint for the coating of Push 3, which ideally lasts longer and has less environmental impact."

    @@mju135 the audio interface is always included. I would like Push 2, but with all the new buttons and better layout of Push 3. Excluding the audio could lower the price. I’m betting the engineers have some reason the audio had to be included. I will probably end up buying it eventually, anyway. LOL
