The Paris Olympics medals are monumental: They're made with metal chunks from the Eiffel Tower
When they make history at the Paris Games, Olympic medalists will take a bit of France and its history home, too.
A hexagonal, polished piece of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower is being embedded in the gold, silver and bronze medals that will be hung around athletes’ necks at this year’s Summer Games and Paralympics. #olympics #parisolympics2024 #olympicmedal #sports

Magnifique !
There lovely works of art and a piece of paris too
Marvellous work with the Eiffel Tower embedded into the gold medals 🥇
Splendid its a piece of history
BEST LOOKING MEDALS IN THE HISTORY OF THE OLYMPICS!!!
Alchemy ... Suppose the tower was meant to be a temporary structure anyway, so may as well make medals from it.
What a very cool idea! I wonder at the amount of gold in these medals vs other medals - same amount of gold plus the Eiffel Tower? Or less gold to make room for the steel?

Weight of gold medal at Tokyo 2020 was 556g, in Paris 2024 it's somewhere around 543g

Thanks! So there is less gold, too bad. But I still love the idea of it being unique to Paris.
"The Eiffel tower is made of 18038" parts....wellll not anymore it aint...🤣😂

The iron is from scrap metal of replaced parts.
This is a very meaningful medal ❤ Wonderful idea from the design team
These medals cause cancer.
So what? The London 2012 medals also had metal from the new stadium constructed for the 2012 Games. This touch for Paris isn't anything new. And for their design, I find them just OK -- NOT spectacular.

A piece of one of the most recognizable monument in the world vs a piece of a random stadium made for the olympics. yup, exactly the same thing.

@@Eogard Well, there's MORE purpose to scraps for a stadium designed specifically for the Olympics vs. just throw-away scrap from a tower nobody liked in the first place--and then twist the story to make it more palatable. I wasn't born yesterday.
You know the women are NOT gonna like this... they need a REAL diamond that somebody died for with their solid gold medal on.

The Organizing Committee, It is part of their expenditures.
In other words "scrap metal"
My mind went straight to lowering the precious metal content by including steel scraps from the Eiffel Tower restoration. The French are cheaping out, producing heftiness in their metals, imo.

It's only that hexagonal part (removable) that's from the Eiffel steel. The rest of it is still the minimum gold, silver and bronze that is consistent with past Olympic medals.
Rusty medals in a few years😂
Do they have special medals for the trans athletes?

@@mylesgarcia4625 yes a level of sustainability is required. Using old pieces of iron is great but the design is lazy. The medal design and the lanyard. We look to France for high fashion and design and the medal misses the mark. The logo is amazing and the look of the games is as well. They there a pentagon on the middle and said bravo. So maybe not cheap, LAZY is the word.

@@jermanietedo The design is humdrum -- NOT spectacular. Except for the logo, so far, I do not like the visual designs for Paris 2024. The Look is too busy and the pictograms are TRYING TOO HARD.
