Then you are blind to the politics that exist within the church. The world isn't stubenville. In reality you have to blend faith and reason. So it logical that there will be a active discussion and healthy debate. It is a good thing that we have cardinals that want to be pope. It is pseudo-holier-than-thou religiously that bars active discussion. Yes you should be guided by the holy spirit but that then you still need to act.

I remember Cardinal Tagle cried when he heard that the medias were reporting that a lot of people were rooting for him to be the next pope during the election.He actually got mad and sad about it and beg to medias to stop this kind of news. Let it be known that I do empathize with your concern that a pope shouldn't place the art of politics above the core of his faith. That said, it's pretty naive to expect nothing political from him. The Church should not bend to the politics of the outside world (in either direction), but The Truth within the Church illuminates the entire field of politics, on a wide range of issues, from unjust wars to abortion to workers rights to climate change to gender politics. The Truth will have its say, and it falls into neither popular camp.

Both were considered popular candidates, but in comparison to the rest of the Cardinals elevated by St. John Paul II they were dark horses for the papal office. Both show and have shown immense humility and desire to maintain the unity of the Catholic faith.

Thankfully, JPII made an effort to be a good Pope, after direct, miraculous, intervention by the Holy Virgin Mary+ Francis "did not show" what he really was - as Cardinal George admitted (or George would NOT have voted for him).... btw...

Smallpoint, but it’s usually polite to at least wait for the current Pope to die before speculating who might replace him. Also, with perhaps with the exception of the election of Ratzinger, when has any speculation about who the next Pope will be ever turned out to be correct? The vultures need to be patient, the current Pope may be frail, but he’s not dead yet. Show the man some courtesy and give him the support he deserves and needs.

I met Cardinal Schönborn once. I lived in Vienna and was passing by the front of St. Stephen's Kirche. There were a bunch of people around but nobody but me recognized him. I went right up to him, kissed his ring and talked to him for about 10 minutes. I can't speak to how good of a pope he would be. But he was extremely friendly and generous with his time ... not a bad start.

Well said. A difficult situation in a liberal Pope.....very slippery slope that can threaten or erode orthodoxy, conservative principles, and traditional meanings in the Catholic faith. Numbers have it that voting Cardinals appointed by Pope Francis could be at least 75% to 80%. One should see clearly how very liberal instructions issued by Pope Francis result in manifestos and opinions of direct opposition from priests and bishops. Unrests like that might not be different even if liberal directives should come from a synod with a majority of liberal Cardinals. The conservatives may be the voice in the mountains that the traditional faithful will listen to and follow.

Here's my assessment from what I have just seen. 1. Schonborn .. He seems the best all-rounder, likely to expand agenda of Pope Francis 2. Tagal .. Clearly well placed to continue agenda of Pope Francis 3. Parolin .. Diplomacy is a virtue 4. Turkson .. Great choice, but with so much of Africa not going for Francis? 5. Erdo .. The conservative option? Also Hungary seems unlikely source with their politics.

We need a pope who will not engage in political issues like our current pope. We need to faithfully follow the scriptures and ignore the temptation to be influenced by the popular issue of the day.

Well, not exactly. Do you think it was wrong for Pope John Paul II to denounce communism? He is credited with expediting the end of that system in Europe. When the faith speaks of justice, a pope is obligated to address unjust political systems.

When the political activities run counter to our Catholic beliefs, I believe that such as communism and abortion should be condemned. We should not stick our finger in the air and move away from scripture for the whim of the day.

Oh, you are fluent in Latin! Is the homily in Latin? If you understand the Mass when said in Latin then you can follow the Mass in any language. Imagine going to a Mass in Latin for the first time as a non-Catholic. Not very inviting or informative.

We need a traditional pope , faithful to Christ, dogmas n doctrines of our faith. We need a pope who does not recognizes pachamama n other idols same as our Lord. We need a pope who does not cancel faithful priests n elevates those with bad records. We need a pope who will take care of our salvation n not a politician or an environmentalist. We need a pope who will not confuse us. We need a pope who does not have favorites or cohorts. We need a pope who will propagate Latin mass n not ban it. We need a pope who will not close seminaries and religious convents which follows the teachings n life of saints. We need a pope who does not make secret agreements esp with communist countries. We need a pope who will not bless same sex union. We need a pope who does not belong to Bergolio's close circle. We need a pope who will not promote one world religion. And many more.

Pope elcted by the process of our mission should have additional knowledge of whole world, various problems rising in various countries, which could be solved under their Holy guidence. After hearing all five cardinals, my mind bows in front of Cardinal Parolin. As an Indian catholic, I trust on the first sentence of our Constitution, Satymev Jayate. 🙏🙏

May the Holy Spirit guide all the Cardinals to choose the right person to vote as the next pope. All the catholics needs to pray for all of them especially to Pope Francis.

@@theresaboldt5797Tradition says who walks into the conclave a Pope comes out a Cardinal. Though not always. Pius XII, Paul VI and Benedict XVI 1:30 were Papibile. John XXIII, JP I and II and Francis were not.

Why "vying"? They are not aggressively competing for the post, and at least two on that list seem to shun the idea. The 'papabiles/papables' are simply the most apparent possibilities.

Pope Pius XIII from “The Young Pope” which starred Jude Law. In that series A young cardinal from New York, Lenny Belardo, becomes pope of the Catholic Church when the leading contenders of the Papal conclave fail to win election. Installed as a compromise candidate, Belardo takes the name of Pius XIII and immediately proceeds to challenge the established traditions and practices of the Vatican. Find a Cardinal who is the least known, will make a good Pope.

Won't be elected by the other cardinals. Burke is considered too outspoken/controversial and essentially lost his rights as a cardinal due to publicly speaking against Pope Francis.
