Well someone put the f8 manual focus pancake lens and said its smaller than an x100vi! Yes it is but that logic puts an f8 mf lens vs a 23mm af lens

I'm looking for something with rolling shutter, no flash, no EVF with good banding at speeds above 1/200th. Would this be a good choice? Replacing my x100vi.

I know one that matches what youre looking for and even better it has no nd filter.

The whole LUT copyright infringement potential here is something I didn’t even think about, although there are small on camera monitors that will preview video with a LUT applied and have been around for years, I don’t think they actually will permanently put it on the video. Tudor actually also made a really good point that I didn’t think about either. Actual Fujifilm film simulations (not recipes) are designed to accommodate all lighting scenarios where LUTs aren’t.

Nah s9 luts will beat the fuji if youre a pro they even have 2 luts with opacities in their camera so imagine building a "base" lut1 and a lut2 to enhance the base lut then it can be amazing. Also what stops people from copying the fuji sims, the ricoh users did it so will this one. On another note im pretty sure you cant copyright luts because they are just settings.

I already know if the 4K is cropped it’s probably 8-bit. This is just all around bad.

It’s good point about the lack of nice compact lenses, Panasonic is more on the bulky side. but to be fair the 35mm f1.8 is more like an f1.2 Lens on the Fuji system, so it’s like putting the 56 f1.2 or the 33 f1.4 on the x100.

Im getting an s9 but im a pro so I know its compromises. But il be honest im one of the ones who calls out these influencers who keeps comparing their luts to fuji and they keep on selling the fact that its compact. NO IT IS NOT (unless you want to cripple it). On another note, watch their PR they handed out smallrig cages because they know its a design flaw but hey we gotta get that thing "compact" right? Those are my 2 main gripes its these gaslighting influencers and confused marketing from s9. Otherwise I SEE MASSIVE POTENTIAL (you said free pro luts lol thats inevitable they cant copyright settings)

Never saw where they handed out smallrigs. The reviews I saw mentioned the in body stablisation which tbh this is the smallest camera with that feature.

It is not a photographer camera but it can be on a clutch... but I agree when the influencers said its going to kill film sims then they are entering the photography category. S9 is gonna be an awesome camera once you get past its flaws.

I remember when the x100v came out and all the camera snobs dissed it. Fixed lens, aps-c .. not full frame blah blah. No one wanted to look at what it actually allows you to do. I think it’s the same with the s9. There are people who are looking at what it can actually do (best stablization of any FF camera, real time grading, super zoom, open gate etc..) and thinking, damn I can make some great stuff here. And then there are people who keep comparing it to other things as if “ value” makes your content for you. Value doesn’t mean anything if you’re not using it. Hardly anyone uses flash, most people don’t use evf’s (if they did iPhones wouldn’t exist for photos) and videographers don’t really use evf’s anyway. People put up with huge cameras for quality but now this is super small it’s too unbalanced for a FF lens?? If it makes good stuff it makes good stuff. I think in a years time people will be praising this camera. I think the content that comes out of it will drive the sales.

@@garywasserman2275 haha. Yeah probably! I’ll just get it then. Panasonic do love a discount. One thing I will say is that I think it’s incredibly hard to make a dent in the camera industry. Only Sony has done this in recent times. Even if they made a great camera with all the features everyone said they should I have they still wouldn’t match Sony/canon and Nikon. I don’t think the s5mk2 has made people drop their Sonys and canons. It’s about systems at the end of the day. Not individual cameras in this market.

I really like how the their LUT and app. seems to work. I just hope that Fuji will add the Tone curves and more options in the next cameras. After seeing this LUT thing, I feel that waiting months for an single new film simulation is kind of...meh. But anyway this S9 is not a camera for me, I keep my Fuji's :)

I was an iPhone user a year ago and couldn't find a 'social media camera' so ended up with a Fujifilm X-E4 which I love. I can see where Panasonic thinks they are heading BUT why a full frame sensor when a) most social media content gets down scaled when posted anyway and b) most social content is quickly forgotten, it's not printed and framed. Then who actually posts content immediately, don't most do post edit as well as colour grading? Finally, L mount lenses are very bulky and expensive influencers won't want to spent that big on lenses.

All S9 videos have rose-tinted glasses on. Panasonic never invites ppl who would bash them to their event. the S9 is not an EDC. it's shit at both photos and videos. it's literally just better than your iPhone for making tiktoks. just use your iPhone. photos: no mech shutter, no evf. videos: 15min recording + overheating???? like wtf??? it doesn't even have small compact lenses and i didn't even talk about the price. just get the s5iix or the zv-e1

Hmm i think Kai was there and they were quite negative about the lens. Dpreview was there but they recommended to just get the zve1. Gerald was singled out it seems unfortunately he is in a messy situation he placed himself in.

This is much better than an iphone, full frame and open gate. I think the main issue is the the s5x is one of the best full frame cameras for it's price and they crippled this one a bit too much.

Their supposed target demographic is people who shoot content on their phones but want an upgrade? why would they need an upgrade if the audience of these videos can't tell the difference when viewed in such a small screen medium (tik tok, shorts, reels).

@@jaegerschtulmann Have you actually been on tiktok? They are one ones which made all of the fuji cameras sell out as they want the film like look+ retro style camera. There is a reason they would want to market to them.

5:56 I’m pretty sure you know this, but for your viewers who don’t know, the lens on the Fujifilm X 100VI is not a pancake lens, it is a proper F2 lens That is recessed inside the body with a leaf shutter and ND filter. Which comes back to your original point, the beginners will not be knowledgeable enough to appreciate this, and professionals or enthusiast will just laugh at this statement🤣🤣 I mean F8? Manual? I’m also surprised these influencers are not more critical about this. This camera is too expensive for beginners (I can name a dozen APSC options to do the same things) and too dumb down for professions (who gets paid for their work). You really have to love its esthetics to make this purchase.

It's always funny to see creators using a camera for a few hours and have definitive opinions about it. Or they come to Japan for 1-2 weeks and release guides on the best spots in Japan... I always find that very interesting... But yeah the S9 sounds like Lumix is trying to catch a bit of the hype of the X100V/X100VI but not a huge fan of the overall philosophy behind it. They don't have the overall system for it, no viewfinder, the build quality does not cut it...

No viewfinder, no mechanical shutter - causes banding under artifical lighting, rolling shutter and means no flash

Fuji needs to improve the app. It would be cool if we could store and send recipes from the app to the camera. Also it would be cool if it had a section to browse other people's recipes, rate and import to your camera. As it is now the app barley works to transfer photos. It was only a few weeks ago when you could not even transfer raw images.

I'm in the Fujifilm system. When I heard about a new compact Lumix full frame I got a bit excited. The excitement vanished quickly with the lack of mechanical shutter and a slow readout sensor. If it had a mechanical shutter, I could maybe overlook the lack of evf. I didn't even stop to consider the size of useful lenses. This camera isn't for me.

funniest part to me is anyone making short form video doesn’t want to color grade anything. they use their phone and do just fine.

Would not say I am a huge Fujifilm guy, I shoot mostly Canon. But I do own the X-S10 for a EDC camera. But you’re right about the size of the lenses Canon has the same problem with the APS-C line. That probably why they opened the RF APS-C mount to Sigma.

I was hyped for the S9 but not releasing the 18-40 pancake with it killed it. With the small form factor they have to fill out the lens line up with compact lenses. Am I gonna risk dropping $1500 for a questionable lens line up in the future? No.

Also depends on which market you find yourself in - This is $2,499 Aussie dollars on my end. Exactly the same price as a Fuji XT-5. APS-C Vs Full-Frame you'd argue. But I won't bore anyone silly with all the other things you're giving up for this S9 instead.

I have the XT30 and from its price difference with the s9, I am getting so much more. Never used the EVF, dont care about the grip or the recording limit, or the 1 card slot or the micro hdmi port, or the headphone jack. I am getting full frame, LUTs, higher bit rate, proper flip screen, bigger battery, better IBIS, better focus, open gate, and a lot more. Still love my XT30 though.

The s9 is 1700€ which is overpriced imo 🥲

The s9 has potential but i think people are being a little hard on it. Small body, full frame with in built stabilisation is great (they say it's the same as the s5mk2)! The app seems really fleshed out for their first 1.0 which shows they put a lot of thought into it. Sometimes it's the hype which is worse than the product.

The fact they call it the 's9' also means this is the last in the product line. Looking forward to the s1hmk2. For the s9 they should have sold it at $1200 max imo. It's a tad over the price point for their entry level with the amazing deals you can get on the s5mk2.

Thats why i dont listen to influencers anymore. I just decide on what i need. I have the x100v (which i love) but i shoot L mount so i ended up with a s9 as a camera to mess around with. Currently shooting on s5iix and sl2s.

The lack of a view finder was the #1 reason for me to buy the S9 😃

I don't think it will be policed and I don't think it will easily be held up as intellectual property/theft. I noticed a guy once ripping off RNI5 (Really Nice Images), and I notified RNI about it, which they were grateful for, and got their legal team involved to try and stop this guy from carbon copying their hard work. But I dunno the outcome but I guess it was just a scary letter, I'm not sure either party could afford the legal battle. I think to rely on Profiles/Presets or LUTs as a business model is just incredibly flakey business model. At the end of the day I don't think the judge is gonna award a single person the copyright to a certain colour grade/palette (which is what all this comes down to).

The s9 should’ve had a non interchangeable lens. Q3 style, with digital zoom.

Someone asked me about this camera, I said it’s not for me. I said the same about the x-t50. Those cameras aren’t targeted to my use case scenario

No viewfinder, no leaf shutter, no nd filter, no killer. BUT I like this LUT + smartphone app combination. Something that Fujifilm should pick up (because creating film simulations in camera or worse x raw converter is PITA).

I just ordered the S9 but I also have the Fuji XS20 but I need a good lense for the S9

Lets be honest, anyone calling camera X a camera Y killer... Theyre terribly misleading anyone who follows them. As for the S9, I think the camera looks absolutely beautiful. And thats about it. Cant see the functionality of it compared to similar priced options. And like you said w the lenses and all. Too bulky. But if cameras could be influencers over on IG, I reckon this one would have loads of followers because of a pretty face.

The s5ii already has the luts feature and will be getting the app functionality as well on a future update.

This is definitely a Fujifilm killer though, many more options/possibilities with the film files. Much larger sensor and interchangeable lenses. Actually, this camera is in a completely different class and you shouldn't compare them at all. The S9 is simply the better camera. A better comparison would be the X-T50/X-5T, the S9 wins over the X-T50 anyway, the X-5T for professional use would win, even though the sensor is better on the S9. The X-5T would be up against the S5 mark II in this case, so Panasonic wins that.

Honestly, Lumix has me looking at the s5iix. Would you recommend a Fujifilm over that camera? There are a lot of KZreadrs recommending that camera for video/hybrid shooting with its extensive features. I'm scared of purchasing a $2000+ camera and be disappointed with video autofocus (looking at the H2S because I already have Fuji lenses)

i dont imagine x100v/vi are bought by beginners either. those prices for a beginner? doesnt make sense to me. i would've wanted more from s9. 15min in 4k in 2024 is a joke. lack of mech shutter is unacceptable with that sensor readout. its neither for video, nor for photo, neither for pros nor for beginners. what is it? and imagine trying to sell it as used at some point. any professionals interested in it? not much, i would think. any beginner willing to pay even the used price? i think that wont be too common either. i would think it would be hard to re-sell it at some point. $1000-1100 would have been a more appropriate launch price

S9 1499$ without lens. THe X100VI is 1599. For a hundred bucks more you get a working camera, and yes its not a begininner camera, but there's alot of hype towrads it and I have a few people dming me and asking me how to use their x100vi's like don't know how to adjust their menu settings because of this tiktok hype.

Thx for the vid and your view. Not gonna lie, I like their LUT idea + the easy transfer to devices. I think that they rushed to release a product which were not needed in it's current form, to just take share from Fuji. They could have just release a 4/3 camera and get away easier with it. I'm not selling my X100VI, for the S9

There are only 2 things nice in S9 - IBIS and how film simulations LUTs are handled. I hope all the rest vendors will make similar features (LUTs)

I think less in the case of LUTS/film sims is more. Sure I'd like to be able to store some more in camera, few more. But 39 is just ridiculous. Also fuji has spent time and its expertise creating the film sims, whereas Panasonic has just said, "here you go noobs, have at it, you figure it out". However, I've been wishing for so long that we could create and store film recipes in the xapp and then transfer individual ones in and out of the camera. We can now transfer RAWs, so why not. So thanks to Panasonic for hopefully pushing Fuji in this direction. And I do mean film sim recipes, not custom settings, as I when creating a new look, I don't usually change all settings like the self timer lamp etc! But even that could be customised by rhe user greying out what they dont want to change - like how the lock screen customisation works. I am aware of fuji x-raw studio that already does this. But its desktop only, looks like windows 3.1 and the speed of 1990s dial up.

I personally really like the idea with their real time LUTs. If done and used right, they could be Fujifilm film simulations and much more. Plus, it is good that a manufacturer of cameras invests in a good app. All of the other apps are useable, at best. However, the hardware feels rushed and too expensive for what you get. If it gets discounted below 1k, maybe…

And no hotshoe and no mecanical shutter lol I mean Panasonic has got their S5II which is full frame fully packed camera that costs some 300 extra bucks and those luts can be used with that as well so if I would think about it I would surely go for S5II instead S9

Am I the only one that thinks these colors are putrid and offensive as hell? Haha. And yes, no viewfinder, no mechanical shutter, no care. Why are people so damn caught up on "full frame" when yes, it's nice and powerful, but when your sensor is beyond slow, it doesn't even matter. Good take, Tung 😮‍💨

I predicted the the S9 would fail after seeing it and seeing the SPECS.......the S9 really seems like a 100% cash grab for Pananasonic.....people wanted a rangefinder in it, but NOPE! It would also seem like the stabilizer mechanisim they're using in the S9 is just an updated version from older cameras like the GH5 and the lense they released with the camera is worthless too???? If compactness is what the S9 is all about, then why go with FF???? Panasonic already had panacake leneses for MFT and a whole slew of tiny lenses......then why not maximize your options with MFT????? Nobody understands the S9 and it's so disappointing to see that.

Too many compromises. It feels like they did a full frame version of the G100. This would've competed well with the a7cii. But the no EVF and that cold shoe?! No, just no! It's a missed opportunity! And don't tell me it's so they can bring the price down because the S5ii has way better value and both are priced the same (1.8k USD) in B&H as of this writing. Panasonic, please return the hammer to Canon. You are better than this. 😅

No Evf, HS mount or MS but but... The lack of Weather Sealing ! Cmon it's supposed to be a take out take anywhere camera. 1500 dollars and they left out all those features to save money, really ?

I think the S9 is comparable to the x-e4: minus the evf. The only turn off is the price. I think ‘when’ it is $700.. it will become a classic. The L mount contemporary lenses will be great for the S9.

Not leaving as a hate! You got to say your piece and I have no horse in the Fuji x Lumix race, I hope you try the camera one day actually ! I think the main thing referring to the lut app is there’s actually luts there already made by people for free when you get it! I do believe at Japan they asked if we wanted to add to that list so people can start off 👍🏾 as for people not being good at grading; I wasn’t either but I went out and learned, I hope creators who did the launch videos go out and make more about this to bridge the gap, however idk if folks want to given the almost harassment. The policing luts or finding bad ones isn’t a Lumix lut app issue, that’s a people issue; bad luts and copied luts etc isn’t going to start because Lumix made an app unfortunately, might make it EASIER to do so, but I can’t in fairness make that the market places fault esp when idk how to verify a stolen lut, it’s just a bunch of code! Check out three blind mice and an elephant, he put the S9 with a sigma 24mm (the smaller one) on it and showed me it beside the Leica Q3, almost the same size

If it was the 2nd iteration of the gx9 this might have been competing against the x100vi. With it being m43. Could easily have a viewfinder, ibis, mechanical shutter, hot shoe and smaller lenses like the beautiful 20mm f1.7. This would have been more accessible and cheaper to build a community to build up the LuT community like Fuji x weekly.

@@Qwest905 ACTUALLY I THINK I KNOW WHY. just thought about this, Andrea Pizzini released a video a shipping and supply chain issue that affects cameras and lenes, if i put on my tinfoil hat, MAYBE the 18-40 pancake was supposed to be the kit lens, and the 26 wasnt? I didn't know it was the kit lens as the one I got in Japan was a 20-60 for the loaner and we got the 26 seperately. Im absolutely guessing

@@KofiYeboah Panasonic is moving in the right direction with the real time lut and their app. But this camera doesn't seem well thought of and rushed since you are saying supply issues on the lenses. Even then if supply issues they dont have small Full frame lenses. Good idea bad execution

Maybe if it had a shutter, an evf, and a proper autofocus pancake lens with an aperture of 2.8 or brighter, I would consider it a fujifilm contender. But there’s to much against. Maybe the s9ii. 😅

on point, man! That camera has so, so, so many drawbacks it's unreal, yet KZread channels (all of which were flown to Japan for free, no way that will 'influence' their videos...) praise the hell out of something that is pretty terrible and won't be used by anyone seriously and as you said any beginner that gets suckered into buying one is going to get frustrated real quick. Especially that f/8 lens....like wtf Lumix lolol

Terrible marketing by Panasonic. Like choose the right influencers to go to Japan. Not pros who are going to say shit like “open gate is great for anamorphic lenses” when it’s targeted audience are suppose to be these tiktokers short form creators 😑😑😑. It’s a very confusing camera

I use to own the s5ii and i like the image quality and it all depends on the lens. I can say that the image looks cleaner.

Fujifilm doesn't have enough resources to manufacture enough units to ship worldwide. So their X100VI is basically a phantom internet only camera. Fujifilm literally only manufacturered a mere handfull of units, most likely short of parts ie LCDs and drivers.

Lumix should have gone the Leica route with it. Bigger body with range finder.its all they had to do

Depends on who you are and what you use it for. For me it will be my travel camera "Fujifilm killer". Cuz I don't plan on throwing my GFX100II into my international flight carry on. And no Fujifilm X100VIs simply don't really exist in reality, cuz Fujifilm didn't manufacture enough. 80% of those that preordered the X100VI still haven't received their units. I don't need a flash, A Godox coke can LED with fresnel or pocket RGBWW 60W LED is good enough, and I don't need an EVF. Rarely do I ever use my Canon M6mk2 EVF.

People only care about clicks nowadays. They either hype a camera to death or if the community is negative about it they call it overhyped and why you shouldn't buy it.

You know what can be really funny, that after a few years, you make a video, with this thumbnail, "I bought a Lumix S9" hahaha I have seen this way too many times, not talking about you particularly but mannnnn so many people roasting the fuji x100v when it came out, and what about the eos r, it came out and it was the super bad camera that nobody wants, and after some time it became a baby c200. Look what is good about this world is that there is a public for everything and proof of that is KZread, I don't like the S9 either but someone might like it man and that is ok, and someone my actually think that is a fujix100vi killer and that's also ok, me for example I don't like to use apsc cameras but are they bad??? no, they are actually excellent cameras I just don't like them., I also think KZreadrs are focusing on the wrong thing, cameras are just tools and what the EOS R proved as a camera that didn't have a lot of features by the standards of her own time is that in order to really create an opinion in any camera you have to use it.

Definitely not a Fujifilm killer. That LUT feature if they bring it across their Full Frame and Micro 4:3 lineup might eat into some of Fuji's sales especially with the M4:3 Leica lenses being cheaper, but if they keep it only on the S line up you're talking a small percentage of pros and enthusiasts that wanted to switch to full frame already and most of them are/were probably going to switch to.... Sony.

This is like a sales prototype for the next step.

It’s a Fujifilm x-m1 killer for sure. But x-100vi? Nah.. it wasn’t too bad if they give s9 an evf then I would still consider it. But with $300 more for s5ii? I’ll kindly ignore. There are way too many FF compact bodies worth that price, and s9 is probably only stands out due to open gate.

If it was 900-1000$ the story would be different. but at 1.5 they enter the camera prices who have all the missing stuff. And I think fullframe is overrated.

Interesting on both sides, this is a lot easier on the S9 but as purists of course we’ll never give credit 😂

Without question the LUT features will blow away the x100vi and better AF. Just overpriced.

No Shutter, No Hot Shoe, No Viewfinder...It's a joke of a camera. I was hoping it had all of the above. I would have considered buying it. Too much money for missing all those features.

The younger generations are currently into point and shoot cameras so it’s unlikely the s9 will pop off. But competition is good regardless

Yup, that’s why the x100 cameras are so popular with them.

Panasonic decided not to market the device and let the hyper guys influence the market by given out lots of freebies. This is a test balloon. The mark II or III may become a compelling something. However it will never be a Fujifilm killer. Fujifilm created a loyal following and the tech advancements are good enough from my perspective. Cheers

The thing everyone has to keep in mind is the most widely watched KZread reviewers know they have to cook up a provocative title to get priority with the KZread algorithm. And “Fujifilm killer”fits the requirement. At the same time, they had the unenviable job of summarizing the camera and its position in the marketplace while under a very tight deadline. They aren’t going to get it all correct in a handful of days with a new camera. There’s no reason for anyone to lose their minds over this release. The full truth will get out before the preorders ship and those who need to cancel will have plenty of time to do so. There’s nothing catastrophic going on.

these so called influencers are mostly a joke, getting paid off for their so called influencers in their mind. The way they speak, they think they are the last word on the product.

when you get a free flights and a free full ride to Japan, hard to be neutral in your review. And these LUTS look brutal, Instagram crap who have no idea how to colour an image. They want a one click solution. There's already a camera that does that better, called an iphone

The Lumix S9 outed a lot of KZreadrs who we thought were unbiased. Ahahaha

It is not a bad camera, but no for its initial price.

bro 1700 euros for body only...overpriced for such a bare bone camera. I would recommend beginners a sony a6700, fujifilm xs20 before recommending this.... it could be a good camera if its priced at somewhere more reasonable like 1000 euros

You didnt do your homework properly. The L-Mount has also the sigma i series primes! They are small fast quality lenses!

Is it tough being an influencer? Every year there is more competition for the same pool of marketing/ad dollars. It just doesn't seem sustainable.

I’ve unsubscribed from many of these frauds. Anyone suitable of being invited to Japan should have immediately known it was overpriced. It’s got a D750 sensor without a shutter ffs. “It’s not weathersealed to keep the price down.” The price isn’t down it’s exactly the same price as a Sony A7Cii

There just a bunch of parrots saying the same thing. It’s hard to get a honest review at this point until a regular non sponsored channels start to review it
