For reference, I am 5'8" (173cm) with a 30" (76cm) inseam. 165lb (75kg), average build. This Pan America is equipped with the 'Reach' seat, which is 1" (25mm) lower than the standard seat, and it is fitted in the low position, which is 1" lower than the high position. With this setup and Adaptive Ride Height working, the Pan America's seat height is ~31.7" (805mm) when stopped, and ~33.7" (856mm) when underway.

something else is dont use your front break when coming to a stop it will want to throw the bike sideways anything below 5mph or so you want to use nothing but your rear break for stability

I have a Pan Am and had this issue. Pull in the clutch, even if in neutral when starting. Got this tip from a forum and it worked for me.

I experienced that...saved it but yep sucknfactor of 8.5.

Good report, thanks for stepping up with a lesson learned. I had a slow motion drop on my Suzuki GS850G in Europe in the 1980s. A right turn on a narrow road T intersection and I didn’t slip the clutch enough and lurched and stalled and slooooowly settled on the right side. Glad your safe, the HD PA is a bike that interests me, but I’ve spent years downsizing to my Vstrom 650 which took me to Alaska and the Yukon last summer.

you also could have come to a complete stop at that stop sign and discovered the height issues there, while also never crossing paths with that car.

Keep your chin up VB! 5 ft 9, 30” inseam, 200lb bro checking in. Been riding a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC for the past season. After embracing the left foot down method and just building my awareness for tricky foot down situations like aggressive road camber, the taller seat height hasn’t been an issue. Going to build my off road chops this season, so I may develop a different opinion on having a big, heavy bike as a shorter guy, haha. Cheers for all the inspiration along the way! Got a few road trips planned for this season in Canada, inspired by the rides you’ve shared with us!

Exact the reason to avoid bikes with too many technical bells and whistles that make the experience "better".

Here in France we do not honk that much ; we rev it and make as much noise as we can. I've been driving small trucks in Paris and it is indeed valuable to do that. You know instantly what you missed (a bike) and so where it has the most chance to be hidden ...

I bought mine in April of 2022. It has been a POS since I had 500 miles on it. Electrical issues, multiple ECM codes, suspension issues, display issues, Seven (7) trips to the shop, same BS every time. "We updated the comptuers/BIOS" We can't get it to throw the ECM codes" "you need to keep it in a heated garage and keep it on a trickle charger" For a brand new bike? At this point I waould warn everyone to avoid these bikes

That's a real bummer. The bike is great when it works. I've heard a lot of the HD techs still don't really know how to work on these new systems.

I am glad that both you and the bike are okay. I use to work in the Washington DC area and most of the drivers suck and many of them do not have insurance. Unfortunately a motorcycle rider has be more defensive when riding-if you are not sure WTF a driver is going to do, slow down or stop quickly and if possible a very loud horn may help. I now reside in western North Carolina and I am constantly scanning the road for idiots. Is this annoying? Yes, but the driver that pulled out in front of you did not give a damn about you or they would have stopped to help you. RIDE SAFE

I fault the Harley. When there is a malfunction, the bike should default to the lower (safer) setting.

I agree with you, but unfortunately the raising of the seat height is a pneumatic process, powered by the undulation of the suspension, that can't be switched on or off.

I'm 6'5 just traded my 2023 pan America for a 2023 low rider S. Unfortunately the pan am failed me.. hopefully Harley will fix the issues in the future

@@khakimzhanmiras the velocity stacks melted and Harley couldn't replace it. Nearly killed me because the bike lost power on the highway. I should have claimed lemon law and sued them but I ended up trading the bike and buying the low rider s for 27k. I'm not happy with Harley. But I'll make the low rider fit me it's a good bike. I liked the Pan America but it needs a few more years.

I did same thing in grocery parking lot, car cut across and cut me off, slow drop to right side fully stopped. Was able to grunt my Ninja 650 back up with people staring, lol. Couple scuffs nothing worth paying to fix really, used bike is used. I learned to shift my butt left and only slam left foot on the ground on taller bikes. Everyone forgets to power cycle after a drop to cancel the engine cut.

The problem is Stator. Volt must remain always 14,1. If you stop the moto for 10 minutes the shock absorber go down

Remember us having to heat and beat my shifter back into place with a hammer on my Vstrom after I dropped it. Glad you’re okay, man.

electronic loaded vehicles always have these bs issues. i owned an audi that was incredible to drive but the constant warning lights had me clearing them constantly. get yourself a VAG/VCDS system. not sure if any are Harley compatible but it would help clear error issues allowing you to enjoy the vehicle without asking the stealership for permission

I haven't got the adaptive height, but this happened to me on the basic model and the bike fell on my ankle causing ligament damage and hit my ribs on the Kirb in the UK, The clutch was in but still cut out

VB you should try the tiger 1200 rally pro, I think you would like it.

I think all cities are getting bad to drive and worse with a motorcycle. My mindset is i am not gonna win against a car, drive slow on intersections, and drive as if a car is not gonna see me.

Did you get the Starter Clutch Gear Update? If not then you will get fault codes and yes it will lock the ride height. I’m on my second PAS If you walk away from the bike for five minutes you can reset and codes will go away until the next time😉

Does HD explain this issue in the operation manual? Did you replace the battery 🔋 😳

I had this issue with the adaptive ride height on my Pan America as well. I chose to be 6'3" and have a longer inseam so I didn't have any tipover concerns as I can flat foot it at the highest point. Dealer replaced the right hand control module under warranty. Not sure if that solved the issue completely as I had other problems with timing that ultimately led Harley to completely replacing my Pan America. Hopefully this one works out better.

No chance of me buying a PanAm mostly cuz the HD dealer screwed up my appointment to demo it and they made me feel like I wasn’t in their bald-headed, bearded, tattooed, vest-wearing club! I wish it could just be in the low position all the time. I'm not taking a 560-lb motorcycle anywhere where 7" of ground clearance isn't enough.

So ... the bike failed and made you fall. The driver that cut you just went away despite seeing you falling ... The pedestrian see the situation but proceed anyway without having a quick look. WTF !? It wasn't bad luck ; something somewhere is trying to kill you ;-)

Why did you stop making videos?

Hey, I like your videos a lot but here I think you are overthinking this event. IMO you are just not physically big enough to be on that bike period. This may not be a useful observation but seriously, with your build, stick to something you can pick up off the pavement. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Good that you are ok, you also could have sprain an ankle because of not knowing where the ground level is. I did just that one time when i was stepping down from a curb of 20 cm height =) And recovery took 2 month...

The Harley failed you. Just like one did for me in 1975. Ignition wire too short. Bike just shut off. I dropped my 2012 Tiger Explorer in Boston. Coming off a sidewalk to the street. Car coming, I stopped. Front wheel on the street, rear wheel on the sidewalk. Put foot down and nothing was there. Just 7" of ground clearance. Bike ripped right over with me struggling to keep it up. 😄. Lots of pedestrians around and helped me pick it up.

Stop being a lego man. Adventure bikes typically have a taller seat height than road bikes and riders learn to slide (their bums) sideways off the seat to get their leg down. There are heaps of YT vids on this technique. The ARH on the PanAm is a nice feature and I use it all the time but when stopped I don't automatically rely on it, I anticipate that I may have to slide to one side, just in case. What if the ARH doesn't or stops working for some reason or it's working but you stop on a very steep incline or there is a pot hole in the road or you are off road and the road surface has undulations, deep grooves, wash-aways, etc. When you have a warning light come on, on any vehicle, expect the unexpected, be ready that something may not work as per usual. BTW, there are quite a number of YT vids on how to pick up an Adv bike - check out Bret Tkacs.

I live in Manassas. So i know how dc drivers are. Thats why i mostly ride going west into the country. Glad to to see you did not get hurt. We ride with alot of riders on facebook. Do you have a facebook?

The way I make Idiot drivers see me, is to strap on a simple “Bicycle Strobe Light”, there are 100s on Amazon, and the ultra bright Strobe can’t help to be seen by anyone. Micro USB charging, will last you a full days ride. I’m on NJ white Strobes on the front of your vehicle are legal, but a bike Strobe, no issues at all, and the Ultra brightness, and a strobe flash you can’t miss, “Most” drivers will see you.

@@VanBlamm I’m convinced, just by the reaction of Drivers who give that last micro second’s of pause before pulling out of a driveway, or at a stop sign, or merging into your lane, that they can’t help but to see an ultra Bright Strobe light. We all know that motorcycle headlights blend into surrounding vehicles and when they say they can’t see us that’s actually correct they don’t see us Motorcycles don’t register drivers mind like cars do. But we all see the strobes when they’re on Bicycles, I put that visibility to work on my Motorcycles, be safe 👍

I always carry little nuts, and bolts with me when I ride. When a car gets too close, or cuts me off, I throw a couple of nuts, and bolts at their car. the people in high dollar cars don't like that. TOO BAD. you screw with my life, I will retaliate.

You came to an stop while handlebars turned... if you would have put it straight, that most likely wouldn't have happened. The higher the center of gravity (due to topcase) the harder it gets for you... well short legs didn't help in that. S**t happens, m8. :)

@VanBlamm yvw m8, typical beginner rider fault. Ur not the first, guess 9 out of 10 bike drops at signal lights are from that reason . Works on a bicycle too. You can even trigger that intentionally. Break straight to a standstill. Then turn the handlebar to the side you want to take your foot down. No need to be scared the dualsports bikes anymore if you got that simple physics right. Enjoy practicing. 👍

Im doing it since 13 years whit my GSA and im 1,69cm whit no problem. The problem whit adaptative is you think it will raise the bike but it doesnt. Im buying PAS right now and ill keep it disabled for sure (it have already this extra installed). Love how the pedestrian doesnt help him and walk away...
