Here is the recipe for the Palmer Brownie....
Ingredients
14oz. Semi Sweet Chocolate
1lb Butter
12oz. Granulated Sugar
4oz. Flour
8 Eggs
12oz. Crushed Walnuts
Vanilla Extract
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
2. Melt chocolate and butter in a
double boiler. Mix the sugar and
flour together in a bowl. Combine
chocolate and flour mixtures.
Stir 4 to 5 minutes. Add eggs
and continue mixing.
3. Pour mixture into a 9x12 baking
sheet. Sprinkle walnuts on top,
pressing down slightly into the
mixture with your hand. Bake
30-40 minutes.
4. Brownies are done when the edges
begin to crisp and has risen about
1/4 of an inch.
Note: When the brownie is properly
baked, it will remain “gooey” with a
toothpick in the middle due to the
richness of the mixture.
Glaze: Mix together 1 c. water,
1 c. apricot preserves, and 1 tsp.
unflavored gelatin in sauce pan.
Mix thoroughly and bring to a boil
for two minutes. Brush hot glaze
on brownies while still warm.
14oz. Semi Sweet Chocolate
1lb Butter
12oz. Granulated Sugar

My late husband and I stayed at the Palmer House for our 1st anniversary back in 1981. I remember the beautiful ceilings in the lobby. It reminded me of an opera house.

Mom and her mother stayed here in 1930's for the Chicago Worlds Fair. Mom and I went sometime in 1970's for her first Amtrak trip . I was first going into lobby and said Oh my God, and she wondered what was wrong, but I was in awe of the beautiful lobby with ceiling murals. She did not remember them . We really enjoyed our stay there for 3 nights and saw sights around the area. What a fabulous place, a friend has booked us here for this August on our annual train trip. We do a rail trip every year , he has never been there and neither has the other lady who joins us. What a treat they will be in awe too.

My wife and I stayed there for our honeymoon. It was fabulous. When we were checking in the clerk asked what we were in town for and when we said our honeymoon she upgraded our regular room reservation to one of the penthouse floors for free and made our stay even more memorable.

Funny story: Phil Collins reportedly named his album "No Jacket Required" because of an experience he had at the Palmer House. Collins had been wearing a very expensive leather blazer, but the Palmer House did not consider it adequate attire. Early one morning, about 20 years ago, I was standing across the street from the Palmer House, talking to a homeless and somewhat inebriated gentleman. I told the man of Phil Collins's experience. He replied - slurring slightly - "I know. They did the same thing to me!"

@@scottsdaletravelchick Thanks! All the credit should go to the homeless man LOL! I'm from Chicago originally but moved to the Valley of the Sun while still in high school back in the 1970's. So my experience across from the Palmer House was only during a visit. I thank you for the wonderful visit! I always wondered what it was like inside that place!
