I am sat at home in Switzerland looking out of the window at a scene which strikingly resembles this Hodler landscape, including the mountain peak in the distant background, framed my green forested hills and pastures in the mid ground. When faced with such awe inspiring natural beauty, I can understand why an artist would return to the subject throughout their career.

What a stunning picture. The close-ups were especially fascinating in how they revealed a looseness in execution that I had not expected from seeing the full painting from far.

The green/yellow is so bright it almost looks like a cartoon. Yet there is so much detail in the trees and the other mountains it feels so real. I can understand this would be eye-catching to see IRL.

As striking as Hodler's painting is, my eye was continually being drawn to the painting to the right of Hodler's. It's stunning! Can you tell me who the artist is/was?

I find it interesting to see the very different frames of the Hodler vs Cezaane picture. I love the simple lines of the Hodler framing. To me, it lets the picture be at thè center of attention ❤

So when are we going to have a show of Swiss 19th century paintings? Hodler’s all very well, but many of his predecessors produced stunning work that, in some cases, leaves Hodler standing.

I'm not sure - reminds me of a tourist poster from the 1930's. Maybe it will 'grow' on me
