They just wanted to see if the glitch worked. They didn't cheat. They could have left and ended the game if they wanted as no one was guarding the open exit (both times) and the other survivors had already escaped. Although it was cheeky and a bit of a troll, the family had already lost. Also Toonz apologized.

No, that was just an HDRI that the devs used to set up the sky in the game, and then moved the map above the part that shows the ground
