I had a brand new custom short board destroyed in similar situation years ago. Took the board down by the water before returning to my truck to get my rigged sail. Big gust came and I looked up to see my board flying and then tumbling and smashing into a pile of boulders. I was alone so didn’t have anyone to help me carry my rig. I unrigged the sail, packed it away then gathered up remains of the never-used board and took it to a dumpster. Probably all just as well, I likely would have drowned going out solo in that much wind on an untested board in winter.

Sam Mcneil I skydive, paraglide, hang glide, BASE jump, anything aviation, I have had my pilots license since I was 16, and on my old page before I shut it down, people would say ‘what’s the point of wearing a helmet when your jumping off a cliff’, and same principals, you may not hit the ground but you may strike something! A friend of mine was doing a tandem many years ago, he wasn’t wearing a helmet, another skydiver collided with him and knocked him unconscious, luckily I was so close that I deployed his main, and helped guide him down until he regained consciousness. Poor being, a 55 year old man skydiving for over 30 plus years thought he was immune to risk, but due to somebody else’s stupidity it almost cost two lives that day!

@@patrickswayze2596 Awesome reply, unlike you I just kitesurf, cycle . run and row. Kitesurfing is my passion. Prior to this I was in two Mountain Rescue teams here in North Scotland, I have seen first hand, on more than one occasion ,death on the hill, resulting from a small trip stumble and bang to the head. Helmets save lives, simple.

@@avaragewanker7823 not the same. In a car crash deceleration occurs in an very short disctance 1-2 meters, depending of vehicle deformation/angle etc. These results in massive G forces, plus direct impact of all surrounding objects. Here, In case of a crash, windsurfer plane on the water untill stop (or hit the shore-in that case it's not very happy). Of course he can be injured by his own equipment, but again the main movement is slide, no sudden stop.
