100% with Troy! All true statements about Mitch! We are also old though! We did a show on it also! It is a shame we all lost the chance to learn a lot from one of the great whitetail hunters to ever walk the earth! Just our view!

It is tragedy that the Rompola buck is not official. Mitch is a dedicated hunter who was ahead of his time.

The interesting thing about the rompala buck is the people who actually saw it said it was real. The people who have never seen it are the ones saying its fake.

IMO, Rampola just didn't fit the profile that the hunting industry wanted at the time so they canceled him before canceling was a thing.

Mitch should have allowed them to X-Ray the rack. Not allowing X-Ray I don’t understand? C.J. Doesn’t have a choice if his racks X-Ray’d or not. My how times change, because Mitch would’ve prayed for trail cam photos to pop up from 15 miles away.

For a lot of the skeptics, I don't think they believe it to be fake but rather question the origins of the buck. That and the other wide ones. I heard somewhere he shot 4 different bucks like that and claimed some were even from different counties.

I don't know if it is real or not. But, there are a lot of legit questions about it and he certainly didn't help himself by the way he handled it right or wrong. Being from Michigan, I want it to be real. But based on where it came from. The record being held for 79yrs and then broken in 5yrs in a spot in MI that isn't known for world class bucks, before or since. If you look at a ton of the bucks he's shot there they all have this super wide look and based on the record books that just doesn't happen in that area. Based on P&Y & B&C records of deer in that county and the fact that he went underground when there was pressure which happens to every person that shoots a world class buck. Deer & Deer Hunting have seemed to walk back their belief in it being real. And some bigger names don't believe it. There are some legit suspicious things about it. I hope it's real and we get to find out. I'm not saying he's lying. But it seems to me like he could have squelched the criticism and skeptics pretty easy. We will probably never know.

There are too many character witnesses for that to be fake. After looking at all, the evidence that came out online I too thought it was fake for many years, but the more learn about the situation, and the more I learn about Mitch as a person I do not believe he is capableof a hoax, it does not fit his character

Here is the facts as those of us who really Knew and know Mitch Rompola. Mitch NEVER intended to enter that buck, he was clear about the books since 1988, that he wouldn't ever enter another buck in their books. Mitch didn't crawl into a hole, and the buck was measured, by 3 measurers. You want it scored but you didnt kill the buck and its up to Mitch and he only wanted to share the buck with people. People shit all over him, some people made a website to bash him. Why should he have to prove anything to anyone. Put yourself in his shoes. We know the buck is real, knew from day 1 Haters making ridiculous claims mean nothing to us and I am content with Mitch doing whatever he chose to do, he was shamed by the hunting industry haters and envious wanna bes, the wanna bes outnumber the good folks 8 to 1 Mitch Rompola is the greatest deer hunter ever to have lived to date. I wish Mitch well and I look forward to seeing the documentary about him. Its in the works.

Do you think that Mitch is better than Fred Bear. Being from Michigan I totally want this buck to be legit. I am NOT saying Mitch is a liar or did anything wrong. I am in the high 90 percentile that the buck & where Mitch killed it are real, just not 100%.

Preach all you want in the most convincing terms you can muster. The bottom line is none of it makes sense to people with critical thinking skills. I won't recount all the objections. But the one that stands out to me is his supporters say "Mitch never wanted the attention." This is provably false. Don't want the attention yet he enters many bucks. Don't want the attention yet he literally set up a website showing all his impressive kills. NEVER ONCE has a similar buck been confirmed in and around Travers City, not before, not decades after. So I guess Mitch found this little magical place where deer racks all come out the side of their head and surpass the inside spread of any other deer in the area by almost double digit inches. Is the deer real? I have no idea. I'm not passing judgment on that. I'm simply saying nothing about Mitch's previous hunting history explains why he wouldn't allow it to be x-rayed. If you're gonna go public with a deer like that - which is undoubtedly did - then its on him to make some effort to prove the validity of what he's claiming. NO offense intended. Just summarizing some thoughts on the matter.

Based upon your facts that he wasn’t going to enter it in the record books than it will never be a world record. Whether it’s real or not becomes mute as there isn’t a claim and Milo Hanson’s buck remains the world record.

That photo of the skull cap is enough evidence for me to believe it’s fake along with signing a contract stating get it scored or stop claiming it to be a world record is the icing on the cake and let’s talk about what a good guy he is stealing food stamps from the post office he worked at or sneaking around with a video camera mounted to his foot.

I believe the mitch is a much above average whitetail hunter but I also believe that the rompola buck is a fake. Why anyone thinks Milo could shut up rompola if he had a legit buck is total nonsense

No doubt, Mitch is one of the greatest whitetail hunters, right up there with my Mentors Gene & Barry Wensel, but Mitch got carried away, and became pissed off , when Milo Hanson (from Canada) shot the new world record, with a rifle, on a deer "drive," actually chasing deer around in a truck ! You don't need to be that good of a hunter to do that ! Since the U.S.A held the record from 1914 with the Jordan Buck, I don't think that sat too good with Mitch, some guy from Canada, driving around in a truck , shoots the new world record. So Mitch went to his parents "Deer farm" and took a couple genetically superior bucks , and altered the growing of the antlers, with a spreader bar, between the main beams, as the antlers grow, you can increase the space of the spreader bar , to make the antlers grow extra wide, which explains the unusual geometry of the antlers , and the odd positioning of the brow tines. So Yes, The Buck, was most likely real, the antlers were real, everyone who actually witnessed it, said it was real, and that would explain the next several bucks Mitch shot, after the fact, just to try and prove himself right, and make people believe that there are more Bucks like that around Grand Traverse! Hah !!! I believe Mitch most likely grew those Bucks on a family members deer farm in Missouri, and altered the spread of the antlers during the growing season, with a spreader bar. When the heat was on, Mitch didn't want the attention, or he didn't want to prove anything, just that the Biggest Buck Ever was shot in the U.S.A by a Real Bowhunter. But anything is possible. Look whats going on with C.J Alexander Buck, another sad story...

I wouldn’t hold your breath on a new world record being done by bow hunter. A side from the nonsense we’ve seen from B&C with past contenders, I hoping the same thing with my home state of Pa. Lo and behold the state record changed and it wasn’t a bow hunter, it was a new record taken with a firearm. Personally I think it’s bogus.

So Mitch goes from a wonderful pen pal…loyal to this dude via writing letters and talking whitetail tactics…love etc, then kills THE buck and it all ends. Guess what Troy, if the loyalty was true, and genuine and authentic….the deer Mitch killed should NOT have altered your specific relationship. Don’t be a fool Troy.

I was alive and hunting during that time, I'm 69yrs old. Truth is Mitch wanted to become one of the celebrity hunters of the day. Someone like Fitzgerald, Chuck Adams, and etc. This deer would have been his ticket there. YET he refused to have it authhenticated. I really dont understand that. If he really wanted to clear this up and clear his name, he would do it. And the calls to x-ray came out well before the agreement between him and Hanson so i dont think that has anything to do with not getting it x-rayed.
