The Other Green Overdrive: Nobels ODR-1 & My Tribute To It - Wampler Belle

Музыка

"It must be another Tube Screamer Clone because it's green"
No, no, no no. A green color does not always indicate a tubescreamer clone. The Nobels ODR-1 has long been one of my favorite op amp overdrive circuits, and it's nothing like a ts9, ts808, or any other type of tubescreamer type circuit. It's quite original, dare I say "transparent" as a drive pedal, and has a nice, full body yet stays crunchy and crispy in milk.
We've had a lot of folks ask us to come out with our take on this particular circuit, and the Wampler Belle is that particular take:

This pedal is .... amazing. I have a Supro Blues King 12 amp that has gorgeous cleans, very boomy and throaty, but I never bonded with the gain on it. The gain is a fuzz circuit. Every time I wanted some gain it would be too much swampy fuzz, too much throat, for my tastes at least. I've tried to pair my BK12 with a tube screamer and it still ended up being so damn muddy and this video explains exactly why. I was almost at a point of either replacing the speaker in the BK12 or selling it. This pedal allows me to completely replace the amp's dirt and the sound is glorious. The gain on this pedal is a beautiful 'crisp' and it's not an 'in your face' gain. It's simply glorious. I'm able to retain the boomy and throaty voicing of the BK12 and supplement it with the gain and tone of this pedal and the amp now sounds incredible. Thanks Brian for your passion and hard work.

David, give Brian & Brent Mason's Hot Wired 2 a shot! Feeling like that pedal is a bit underrated, and running the Hotwired 2 in front of the Belle is tough to beat. The compression switch and bass control on the Belle combined with a dry mix on the Hotwired's right channel, plexi-ish drive on the left and 3 way switches on both sides *should* give you whatever you're hoping to hear. In theory. I'm running with it.

@The Tired Horizon yeah, I don’t disagree. But, for this one you don’t have to take off the base plate: the battery compartment is under the label on the top of the pedal, and that’s where the switch is. It’s actually a large dip switch, so it’s easy to toggle. Not as good as putting it on the surface, but it’s the next best thing. You don’t even have to move the battery (if there’s one in there).

I love it when you geek out. That spectrum analyzer is interesting. I only have experience with pedals in my front room and I always wondered if I would like particular pedals it in a mix? My favorites....might not be my favorites and how often has that been the case, especially with a bassist who won’t turn it down. Really happened once and I couldn’t hear the guitar riff so I didn’t quite know where I was suppose to sing.

Always enjoy the vids, in my opinion your best publicity move was to set a no cropdusting zone at your booth at NAMM, I think more folks came to the booth with the intention of ultimate the ultimate SBD saturation, but at the same time, let’s face facts you have some cool pedals and you are great to talk to, lol

Cool, a space-saving excellent overdrive without the weaknesses of the ODR- 1. It would be interesting to hear the Belle versus the Timmy V3. (:-) Thanks for the great video! After tests: The Belle is way better and clearer then the Timmy V3. The Belle is now on my pedalboard. Excellent pedal from Brian Wampler. I recommend it to every guitarist.

The spectrum analyzwer gives me the "why" it sounds different. I've wondered this with countless pedals. Thanks, Wampler!

Yeah Id love to see more of it, having a visual on frequencies is super helpful but it also doesn’t tell you anything about the character or the feel.

My number one pedal is my Wampler Tweed57 and my boost and drive is the Nobels ODR1. Very basic for most people but for me, I couldn't ask tor more. I used to have loads of pedals but these two in combo have kicked out a lot of other pedals off my board, even more expensive and boutique ones. The 3rd pedal that made it to join the combo was simply another ODR1 with the bass cut LOL

I am so getting this pedal. I have an ODR and have never been able to use it with the rest of my gear cuz its too boomy for rhythm guitar Thanks Brian for solving that problem.

@@nobelsofficial5766 yes I have. Or at least I know it exists. But they are hard to get where I live( Montreal) . I'm keepin the one I have cuz I use it in the studion a lot when I have time to dial in the tone I want. For live gigs, the Belle seems to offer a versatile option. Cheers

I had a Nobels Distortion plus special, used it on one recording. Regret letting it go. It had a cool noise gate. It did have a unique tone to it. I like their line booster that has a remote control. Which I think would be cool to add a post boost to any amp. Plus it has some eq too.
