Here in the US we have the option of lamp oil or K 1 kerosene and another kerosene susbstitute product known as Clean heat. Kerosene (K 1)at the pump was $5.69 per gallon. Packaged kerosene (K 1) is about $11.50 per gallon. Clean heat is near $14.00 per gallon. I just priced lamp oil at $5.25 per quart. That stuff is outrageously expensive. I'm filling another jug with kerosene from the pump for my lanterns and lamps. I'm a bit nervous about a grid failure. I want light available in case of an event.

Yep, got four, two red, one green, and one grey, in my shed and love them, lovely light and good amount of heat from them, one full tank at half light, which is plenty, gives 20 hours running time, so roughly costing around 28 pence to run per hour to one litre of fuel which will give you just short of 2.5 tank fulls so around 50 hours per litre, hope this helps

I used to live in an old cottage with an outside toilet. My father put a paraffin heater in there. One night I came downstairs, went out the back door to find black smoke bellowing from the out house? One of my siblings felt it was too cold (it was near zero) and turned the heater up. That was a close call. I do though have some Hurricane Lanterns that I fill with lamp oil. My father taught me his lessons from the past! More modern now:- I have UCO lanterns and many candles in stock. Still I have storm lanterns and the fuel for them! Well done Funky!

hi John, yeah these lanterns will also puff black smoke if you crank the wick up to high, just crank it down till any smoke goes. Like anything indoors you have to be slightly careful and make sure there's at least some kind of air flow. Cracking lanterns and for the price they've become one of our best sellers.

Hi not sure if this is common knowledge. I spoke to my energy provider a few days ago regarding any help they could offer towards my fuel. I'm currently on a smart meter pre pay. Anyway they asked me if they could refer me to the citizens advice bureau. I agreed and upon the completion of the referral I was awarded £50., Which I chose to have it put onto my prepay gas smart meter. It wasn't until the completion of being referred was I informed of the £50. So definitely worth a phone call to your provider. I'm with utility warehouse. Let's make sure that we look after each other. Xx

Oil lantern tech really peeked in the late 19th, and early 20th century, in the U.S. Rural electrification did not take hold unit the 1930’s so people were still using oil lamps well into the 1940’s. The best lamps I have used are the Aladdin mantle lamps, they throw out a ton of light about equivalent to a 65 watt light bulb, and will heat a room very well. The problem is that they are now expensive, so finding used ones is the best deal, the parts are readily available so if you find one that needs parts buy it, they are simple to keep running, and worth there weight in gold.

Beautiful lantern, I collect the older ones and have several. I bought one of the new ones and also bought a carry case online. The lamp oil is good for indoor use as it’s a more refined form of kerosene and gives off less harmful fumes or smells however it can be expensive so if burning outside you can use cheaper fuels such as kerosene, paraffin, road diesel, citronella ( helps keep midges away). If you have a few wicks, just throw a couple into the font or fuel tank and then you will always have one with you to fish out if needed.

Yes this one is the best! Feurhand (in English pronounced Foyerhant, meaning Fire Hand). I bought one of these, the Feurhand Baby Special 276 (should be under £40) after I had previously purchased a much cheaper copy, with a round wick. These Feurhand lamps, with the flat wick are easily the best. Excellent build quality and the air flow around the tubing and chimney is well thought out from a physics point of view. Plus it'll last forever. These lamps are fine using paraffin/kerosine, but lamp oil, a little more expensive because it's more refined, is better, does not smell and is fine indoors. The paraffin smell isn't that bad though, especially if using outdoors. In a pinch you can even use cooking oil, olive oil or avocado oil, maybe whale oil (!) - but don't use🔥petrol! Just don't waste your money on the cheap round wick copy lamps - like I did! I'm an engineer and should have known better. Buy a pack of five Feurhand wicks (about £6 to £7 at the same time.

Old family home dusting off and clean up the house before all the brothers and sisters arrive. getting the fire started chopping the wood. bringing in coal from the shed. hearing sheep, cows and horse in the distance. and the nice clean fresh air breeze in the morning. fog frozen in time as it flows down the mountain wall. the land scape painted in blue haze. and the golden flower blooms over the horizon. and the familiarly sound of a match to start up the stove before breakfast. morning coffee and every family member walking up to me greeting me with a warm hand shake before enter the house. every time I forget just how big me family is.

Take about 5 minutes to warm up then you can turn the flame high with no soot and the convection in the side tubes start to circulate. It has two tanks, a center fuel tank, and an air chamber tank around it connected to the air tubes the handle is connected to. Great heaters between your legs when the power goes out.
