The ORIGINAL Attack on Titan Anime

Ойын-сауық

The original draft of Attack on Titan was created in 2006 and it was a story where Eren didn’t exist, the walls didn’t exist and titans were even more impossible to kill.
Initially the idea was submitted to Weekly Shonen Jump which is the famous magazine, that at the time was publishing series like Naruto, Death Note and of course One Piece which is still going on. Like most ideas THAT GET submitted, the first draft of Attack on Titan was rejected but despite that there were others who saw the potential. In that same year Isayama sent the draft to a contest at a different magazine, where it won the “Fine Work” award and after several alterations began being published 3 years later. In this video what we’re about to do is examine the original story from 2006 and by the end you’ll see what attack on titan could’ve looked like, if the series had stuck to it’s original vision. On top of that I’ll also be showing you all the moments that ended up being re-used in the main series, including one major plot twist.
Alright so the original draft starts off with this titan, as it approaches a group of terrified looking soldiers. Seconds later it then begins eating them one by one and while that’s happening we get an interesting backstory about how these monsters were created. A hundred years earlier there was some kind of man-made global crisis and following this, a group of scientists and religious leaders decided that they had to do something. In order to protect themselves they began the “mankind destruction operation” with the hope of eradicating every other human on the planet. As part of this mission they created the titans, although these titans are completely different to the ones we know from the anime. Firstly in the original draft every titan had the power to shape-shift into the form of anyone they’ve eaten. As an example, imagine that when Marco was eaten in season 1, the titan that did it suddenly transformed into him and then just pretended to be Marco for the next 3 seasons. In the original draft the titans had this ability making it significantly easier to infiltrate humanity and as if that wasn’t bad enough, they don’t even have a weak spot in their neck. Instead, their only weakness is a special organ called the nucleus, which is always located inside a random body part of the titan. In this opening scene of the manga nearly every last soldier dies before they can find the nucleus with the only survivor being a soldier called Murakumo. As a character Murakumo is similar to Levi when it comes to his physical strength and in terms of design he has a few things in common with Mikasa and Eren. Anyway in this moment he tries to ambush the titan by attacking it from behind but at the last second it turns around, leaving Murakumo in a life or death situation.
The story then flashes forward by a month, where it’s revealed that humanity lives inside towns that are surrounded by large trees. If you’re wondering why it’s because the scientists who created titans didn’t want to hurt the environment and so they programmed titans to view nature as sacred, while humans are presumably viewed as evil. As a result their programming doesn’t allow them to destroy trees, explaining why they now act like a barrier defending humanity.
Now in this particular town Murakumo is seen walking down the street and as he looks around, he notices that all the locals are afraid of him. One thing you need to know about Murakumo is that he’s a member of the Vanguard (basically the Survey Corps), which is the only branch of the military that goes outside the trees. Therefore none of the locals actually saw what happened between Murakumo and the titan, all they know is that a squad of Vanguard soldiers was wiped out and apparently this guy was the only survivor.

Years after (when AOT Seasen 4 was confirmed) I decided to watch AOT for the first time due to anime popularity and I totally forgot I read this manga before. @@samuelutanlock8141 the differences between the two are extensive: The Muv-Luv franchise is a trilogy of visual novels with a branching storyline (although Alternative has no choice points that actually matter), while Attack on Titan is a linear manga. Muv-Luv and many of its spinoffs (Total Eclipse, Schwarzesmarken) depend heavily on harem-style setups, where a male protagonist is surrounded by many female characters, each potentially with a romantic interest in him (although Unlimited subverts this somewhat). Attack on Titan doesn’t surround Eren with a pack of girls interested in him, and arguably the best-developed romantic relationship in the story is between supporting characters Krista/Historia and Ymir. Muv-Luv depends heavily on parallel timelines and time travel, while Attack on Titan lacks this element.

If this is how the series goes, I can see Gabi, this early Gabi, to become a protagonist in her own right. And I doubted she will become like the one we got. After experiencing such traumas, I don't think she will become arrogant. Vengeful, yes. But arrogant, no. But that can be her character's arc. Like Eren and the Gabi we got, she is driven by vengeance and hatred against the Titans. But when she has come to realize that the Titans are just tools for one of the many groups of humans out there in the world while the other groups of humans are destroying nature all over the place is what driven the ones who created the Titans into this madness in the first place, she will most likely become cynical nihilist as time passed by. Heck, she might even be terrified at the idea of having a child because it means one more human born into this cruel world to make the world even crueler. But I guess that won't stop her from falling in love with the Falco of this world. And he will most likely be there for her just like the Falco we got did for the Gabi we got. However, the fact that this series might receiving the ending that Mr. Isayama originally planned is quite high as well. You know, the one where it ended with everyone ended up dying. And if that happened, it will send a good message out to all of us to stop destroying nature for our own benefits before nature decided to become radical and strike back at us the hard way. Well, there is more than one ways to execute such an ending with such a message and defeating the ones who created the Titans seemed to be an option while promoting the ideological belief of preserving nature for the betterment of the world as well. P.S: Ironically, papers are made from trees. And trees are part of nature while papers are important ingredients in creating manga.

its a good lesson on simplicity. isayama probably added all the weird confusing elements like shape shifting and a detailed backstory very really early on because he was afraid the story wasnt interesting enough, when really just the idea of humans living in fear of huge humanoids that want to eat them is interesting enough to carry the story for a while before new elements are introduced

Off topic but I remember somebody saying in a comment section that when they first saw the beast Titan they thought he was some kind of Titan God. Imagine if the original draft of this story did happen and Zeke was actually some kind of Titan God which made the programming for all the other Titans to keep nature safe

Wdym? Zeke is some kind of titan god. That’s the whole point of him having royal blood and controlling titans.

@@Echo-nn8dt I mean he can be killed by war world 1 equipment and odm gear. Also he can only control titans with his spinal fluid in them either from drinking, injection, and gassing. He can't control random Titans it's just his special ability. Kinda like how porco and his brother had string jaw titans compared to regular users .

So basically, that bad live action movie from a decade ago followed the script of the original 2006 draft when they ran out of material since at that point in the story the origin of the Titans had not been revealed yet in the Manga. (but was spoiled in the season 2 anime credits XD as revenge against the manga readers spoiling the plot for anime only watchers, which was based)

Ngl i really like this plot, they could totally work this into a "sequel" of sorts from how aot ended just repeating the cycle this could explain how titans came back and adapted from the previous series, since thats the halluicengias whole thing, the mc could pass as a levi ancestor and the gaby like character can pass as a milasa ancestor with erens will type stuff i definitely would like to see more

I would love to this animated. I also appreciate how we think we know the main character but it switches, and also how the attack titan looks like that because murakumo looks like that. We’ve all speculated why eren’s titan looked that way and I never accepted that. It’s good to know it was because he was keeping his OG script alive somehow

What I would imagine: That is set centuries after humanity was destroyed in a nuclear war (spoiler) and years after the kid with his dog discovered the tree. That time, when the kid and the dog entered the tree, they did not fall, but found the spine creature. Fearful that it is a dangerous monster, the kid rushed to the corner and the dog aggressively barked at it. However, the spine like creature did not attack but just stopped moving and remained idle. Suddenly, the kid heard a mysterious voice saying “do not be afraid”. With that, the kid emerged from the branch where he was hiding, and he saw his dog sitting with the creature (as if being friendly with each other) and saw the ghosts of Eren and Ymir (who opened their eyes and were smiling). Timeline of Attack on Titan (my perspective): - before ymir - ymir era - titan era - after titan era - and the time the kid and the dog found the tree

I always felt as if AoT borrowed a lot from Claymore, but with the whole Titan's hiding among the people by shape-shifting into their victims part, even more so now. It's probably a good thing Isayama changed it because, together with the outside world twist and premise, it might have felt outright derivative otherwise.

Creatures hiding within human society is a concept from parasite manga which came out in the 80's and any manga you see use that concept got inspired from parasite.

Had some They Live or Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibes with that whole turning into a human thing. Interesting premise, but I think the version we ended up getting was the better choice. The whole nucleus thing is an interesting idea too.
