Monica will always be Captain Marvel to me. She was one of my favorite Avengers during her initial membership. Ever since she was removed from the Avengers she was rather poorly treated by the power that be behind the scenes at Marvel. It's good to see that she has been treated with more respect in more recent stories. She is by far the best character ever created to keep DC from getting the trademark to the name Captain Marvel. One of my favorite female superheroes. I started getting into the Avengers right around the time she joined and her leading them in the assault on Olympus is one of my favorite Avengers story lines.

Monica Rambeau is one of my favorite female superheroes growing up as a little kid. When she was a part of the Avengers, she always stepped up and became the center of the team. I can’t wait to see the Marvel’s when it comes out. Teyonah Parris has been doing a great job playing Monica Rambeau.😊🤓⚡️

The Marvel Divas comics was really great. In one of the issues Monica had spent the night with Jericho Drumm and he offers her the keys to his place. She immediately transforms into light and flyers off, without clothes on. The other Divas just poke fun at her fear of commitment.

Monica Rambeau💫 is one of my favorite superheroes. I have a reprint of her first appearance in a Spider-Man comics issue from the 70s. I also have comics of her various appearance in comics like CAPTAIN MARVEL, THE ULTIMATES, THE AVENGERS. STRIKE FORCE and more recently The Thunderbolts. Monica Rambeau finally got her own 5-issue comics series called PHOTON, which saw her gain new powers. She is an awesome character and I am so happy I finally get to see her in live-action, on the big screen.💫 Higher. Futher. Faster.

Wow, I have missed a LOT of Monica's middle-story! Was Nextwave the first to give us a glimpse of child power Monica, or did it come earlier? When i read that I thought it was an amazing way to retcon her into mutant status. No one has brought up that yet, have they?

I love spectrum, I saw her in the OG secrets wars comic (when I purchased it a yearish ago) and I fell in with her design. Such a cool speedster.

Her powers first manifested at a young age without being exposed to anything, could that consider her a mutant?

@@crazyramus That clip is is a retcon along the same lines as what they did with Rocket Raccoon's origin It didn't occur in the original comic because I had the original comic decades ago. You can even see the differences in artwork between her as a child in bed and the original comic book issue with her origin.

I would consider her more a mutate like the MCU Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Almost like Spiderman and most of his villains. She may have had power/hero potential but it wasn't until her DNA was rewritten by an outside source that she really came into and started embracing her power. So in a way her real (or augmented) power didn't happen until she was radioactively altered. Even in the MCU, originally she was exposed to Captain Marvel's space stone based power radiation at an early age, then molecularly altered by Wanda's CMBR/chaos magic/mind stone hex radiation before her light based powers manifested. And then she goes through her power up montage offscreen (I haven't seen The Marvels yet so no spoilers pls lol). But it's assumed at the end of WandaVision that she explores her powers in space with Fury and the Skulls on various missions. Imo tho

Ok, we're going with the "Mutant Monica" timeline/s. Update: GREAT video of one of my all-time favorite Marvel characters, despite her being written written into some dreadful story arcs. I dunno, though; I really don't think she needed to be retconned into being a mutant all along to somehow keep her relevant, but that's just me.

I hated how Editorial did Monica at that time. I read on Roger Stern’s website that if he was still writing The Avengers, he would’ve added Luke Cage to the roster and he would’ve been her new love interest. Now this was back when Cage was rocking the tiara and yellow shirt. I could’ve pictured that relationship.

You mean the way editorial-DEPOWERED-the most prominent,black female character in Marvel comics at that time,thus taking her out of being the first ( and only )black,female leader of the Avengers.Then took her name of Captain Marvel giving that name to another hero,then changing her black features into a less afro-centric appearance.

@@user-be7tc2bd6eHere’s what happened. Stern was told by the new Editor to have Monica step down as Chairperson so Captain America can lead the team again. Stern refused this request and quit in protest. When Stern left the title, Monica was depowered and was forced to leave the team. I remember this all so well because I grew up reading Monica Rambeau on The Avengers.

I do believe Monica was planned to appear in EMH had it gone for a third and even fourth season.

Her role in The Marvels was phenomenal, I genuinely like what the MCU is doing. I think it's just like a Marvel Comic , Serious and Ridiculous. Not just action scene, after action scene.

Can you do history of the A-Force, U-Foes, Excalibur team, the Ultimates team, Starjammers, Alpha Flight, the Annihilators, the Invaders, the Squadron Supreme, Doom Maidens, the Midnight_Sons, Young Avengers, Dark Avengers, Masters of Evil, the Thunderbolts and the Champions?

I've maintained for a while that a lot of superhero costumes should look kind of like the uniforms from the Star Trek the Next Generation show. Monica's last costume would look really good if they made it like that.

Loved the Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel back in her first run of the Avengers. Looks like she has been mishandled since then..... I'm guessing the "NextWave never happened" thing is a result of a retcon rather than being planned that way? Seems like that writer didn't give a damn about continuity and others had to pick up the slack afterwards (I'm also thinking back to the Machine Man video which essentially said he was written totally out of character in that run).

Since you did the History of the Mandarin and Fin_Fang_Foom, can you do history of Ultimo as well as the Shang-Chi villain known as the Death_Dealer?

How about a video on Nebula. She came up in this video and now I want more Nebula.

Monica's a powerful superhero and talented team leader, but after watching this video, I understand why she never broke into the mainstream until arguably nowadays. She's just not a very good character. Writers over the years didn't manage to come up with the right idea for her arc, and whenever the potential opportunity showed up (her early struggles at work, dramatic weight loss, trying to start a boat business, the NextWave trauma), it wasn't followed upon in the long run. A bugger, really.

I was really pissed off with marvel when they made monica give up the capt.marvel title to that wanabee hero, genis-vell. She earned that title more than that jerk ever did.

Now that's the Monica Rambeau I remember.Built like a Young Pam Grier.More like a mutant.Using the weapons her mama gave her.

that's what they look like they're saying---there was no mention of "mutant" abilities when she 1st appeared in Spiderman Annual #16 in 1982

Ugh. This is a fine video, and Captain Marvel ( she’s always going to be that code name jn my head) is one of my favorite heroes.. but this needless overcomplication of her origin seems unnecessary. I mean, it’s probably great if you need to pad out a story for a trade paperback; but less is usually more. Sorry; I’m not trying to dump on your video, it’s fine.

Reading the *"AvEnGeRs"* comic in the 80s, Monica Rambeau will always be the REAL Captain Marvel, not Carol Danvers, who was always Ms Marvel. I didn't mind the MCU making Tony Stark the creator of Ultron, to me though, the real "father" is Dr Hank Pym.

Loved the character originally. Don't like her after over powering her for marketing. She was great when she was with the avengers. But to many characters and stories are more about agenda over quality.

Okay I had to stop at "When she was young she had to repress her light based powers." Is this retcon BS cannon now? Monica gained her powers as an Adult in a Spider-Man annual. Are they retconning that she always had powers? Was Peter able to climb walls as a baby and repressed it? I'm sorry this is painful to listen too, Monica was, and when handled correctly still is one of my favorite Marvel characters, but the Nextwave crap didn't do her any favors.

What we ended up with is a weak mcu version who looked up to the more recent Captain Marvel instead of remaining the first.

This is the real Captain Marvel .. The MCU destroyed such a great Character.

I don't know if I'm overly sensitive about this, and I want to try to voice it through constructive criticism as much as I can. The way you talk feels very phony to me, I think this would play much better if you talked the way you normally talk.

Not a character I ever liked very much. Her first appearance depicted her as a somewhat obnoxious and overbearing caricature of a "black victim." While in the Avengers she was a bland goody two shoes, always being fawned over by her teammates. It was cringe before "cringe" became a thing.
