Great video I loved it so much. I am 15 years old and I struggle with acne scars around my nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. 3 months ago I brought The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc 1% thinking it would heal them and it didn’t. Then recently I have done some research and I’m thinking of buying The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% to maybe help with my scars, uneven tone and give my skin a “glowing” look. Do you think this product is something I should invest in and if not then do you have any recommendations? I use the CeraVe Renewing SA cleanser so would that be a good mix?? Thanks!!

A vitamin C is a great product for brighter looking skin and to help with hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. The Ascorbic Acid + Alpha Arbutin is a great one as the Alpha Arbutin is a skin lightener. You could even pick up the Alpha Arbutin serum as well and use it with the vitamin c for a double pairing!

  • @shireenyusuf5995

Hi, I may be able to help you. For the aha+bha peel, if you have issues with hyperpigmentation then it may be best to avoid this product as the higher percentage of glycolic acid may cause chemical burns and leave dark marks. Better alternatives would be the salicylic mask (for oily and acne prone skin), lactic acid (gentle aha) or mandelic acid (gentle aha for hyperpigmentation). If you you don't have problems with hyperpigmentation and you are lighter skinned (Fitzpatrick 1-2) you can use this product but read the instructions! Do not exceed leaving this on for more than 10 minute once per week. You may not need to even use it that often. Patch test this first as ppl have experienced chemical burns from this product. If using this product weekly it may not be necessary to use other chemical exfoliants. Avoid applying to damp skin as the ingredients will penetrate deeper and could potentially cause irritation. For the niacinamide and zinc you can use that with anything and anytime of day. If mixed with ascorbic acid you may see a flushing effect because the two different pH levels but you may also be fine so try and see what works for you (it is still safe to use together though regardless). For the hyaluronic acid + B5 you can use with anything as both are humectants (attracts water from the environment) but be sure to use a moisturizer after to lock everything in to avoid transdermal water loss. You can apply to damp skin. Alpha arbutin is commonly used with other skin brightening ingredients (vitamin c and niacinamide) but it may be best to avoid with certain actives that increase photosensitivity like ahas, bha and retinol. Otherwise it's fine to use with humectant ingredients (hyaluronic acid, b5 etc). All of these should be followed with a moisturizer. ALWAYS use spf as some of these ingredients increase photosensitivity! If you're interested in the science aspect of skincare or just want good information from knowledgeable professionals then I recommend watching dr. Vanita rattan (specializes in hyperpigmentation for skin of color and cosmetic formulator), dr. Dray (dermatologist and PhD in microbioloy), lab muffin beauty science (PhD in chemistry) and kenna (biochemist and cosmetics formulator). There are many other great resources out there from ppl who have studied skincare for years and can help you understanding what you need. Hope that helps!

Hi Ash! I have recently been watching a bunch of you're videos and I am looking to invest in some ordinary products. I was thinking about buying the niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% & pycnogenol 5% & hyaluronic acid 2% + B5. Would these 3 products combine well for someone who has dry skin? and if so when do I use them in my routine?

Yes I would definitely recommend these three and you can use all of them together in the same routine! The Niacinamide is more for oily/acne prone skin so if you have dry skin I would maybe incorporate the amino acids + b5 with the ppcogenol and HA...

Should we mix nyacinamide, hip seed oil and L-ascorbic acid 100% powder???

You don't want to use the L-Ascorbic Acid powder with Niacinamide as the Ordinary says these two can conflict. You can use rose hip with vitamin c though..
