    I'm applying soon for the OU to study Psychology!! I'm so excited. I'm 20 and worked full time since I was 18 and don't want to go without the money. My parents have also recently split up so having a single mom and no support from my dad which my brothers had when they went to a brick uni, I want and have to be financially independent. Another reason is that I have severe anxiety and truly think this is the best option for me. Thank you so much for making this video and giving me more confidence to do this!!! You're beautiful btw ❤️

    Thank you so much for this video! I thought I wanted to study nursing for all my life but didn't really bother in school so never got there. Now I have actually worked in a hospital, while I love my job, I know that I do not want to progress into a nursing career. This left me stumped as to what to do. I have very recently decided on Business Management (Accounting) as my partner is training to be an accountant and I've enjoyed helping him, and will be signing up in a few days to start in October. I don't know why I've just thought to look at KZread for peoples experiences but yours was the first video I chose and you've made me so much more confident about my decision! Good luck with the rest of your studies!!

There is not many student experience videos about like this, I am looking at BA Arts and Humanities (Philosophy) and I just don't know whether to go full time or part time, I work 45 hours a week but have no other commitments and I am used to the study lifestyle. I don't want to overwhelm myself but still want to get it done.

I totally agree with you a degree is a degree, what's important is getting a good classification (first class, 2.1 or 2.2 with honours) and experience. Continue working hard especially in your 3rd year that's where it counts the most. Anyway you sound like you know what your doing 👍. You will feel fantastic that you did it when you get your certificate I did when I got mine all that hard work will pay off.

    Doing 2 modules at once and working is very committed. If you need extensions then I would not be afraid to ask the tutor for one ... or more. (Also get work on board about your study, so if you needed time off for revision for any exams etc. they will be sympathetic). Worth noting if a student needs a break in the middle of a module they can 'freeze' their marks in come cases and carry on next time the course starts up - just saying generally. I am doing an Open Degree and *definitely* the quality of study materials is very good indeed, (I had a degree anyway from a traditional university, so I can compare). You should comment on the topics you have studied - e.g. organisation change etc. what are the debates etc. Just talking over the ideas gets them cemented in your mind and is a way of learning too. Others will be interested. Good luck on this!

    dreamcastII What a lovely comment thank you so much! I have had to ask for two extensions this year as I found with being pregnant different complications have arisen which made it difficult for me to get the work done to the standard I was used to submitting. Luckily my tutors have been more than sympathetic towards my situation and very helpful and understanding. Just one assignment left before my exams so I'll probably film a video about how I have found the year once it is all over 😀

    Hi! I am thinking about joining the Open University next year. I‘m interested in a BA Honours degree in History & Politics, which would take 6 years if I do it part-time, 3 years only if I chose the full-time course. Just for clarification: You worked full-time when you started with your studies? You worked 5 days a week from morning to evening and studied full-time as well? How did you manage this? How did your weekly schedule look like? Because since I don‘t want to give up work, maybe I would change from a 5-days workload to only 4 days, but definately not less than 4 days at work per week. But still; how could someone manage a full-time degree at the same time? For me that would be great, since I don‘t really want to spend 6 years for the same degree... that‘s a pretty long time...

    Do you pay per year or per credit blocks? As in, would it be more expensive spreading a course over 6 years than 3 years

  • @HeatherDarroch

    @HeatherDarroch

    7 жыл бұрын

    Sam Crofts Hi, the fees are worked out per module rather than it being a yearly fee, sorry for not being more specific! For the two 60 credit modules I'm completing this year the fee is roughly £5500 however if u split this over two years it would be £2250 per year. Do remember though fees can go up or down as years go by so if you study over 6 years the cost of a module may be different in year 1 to what it is in year 6. Hope this helps!

  • @HeatherDarroch

    @HeatherDarroch

    7 жыл бұрын

    Liam Jones Hi Liam, thank you so much for commenting! If you feel you are managing well and you are achieving the marks you want without too much stress then by all means go full time. Everybody studies differently so it will completely depend on your study routine and if you can commit to the extra work. If you find you struggle once going full time you can always defer one of your modules and pick it back up again later. The OU have been flexible with me countless times when I have deferred/changed modules and study route since starting my studies so don't worry that if you take on too much there is no going back. :) I hope this helped!

    Miriam Jt it's recommended 30+ hours of studying, I honestly don't set aside that many hours a week and have been getting on okay, but everyone studies differently. If you aren't sure what you can manage try starting with 60 credits and if you feel you can manage more when you choose your next modules go for 120 credits. Or if you want to jump straight in at 120 credits you can and if you find it's a struggle you can always defer one of your modules. I hope this helps! 😊

    Hi Heather, love your video!! Was wondering if you could give me any study management tips? I am thinking of doing Open University starting in Oct. Ive done OU courses before so I know the set up etc... But this year I am thinking of doing 2 modules in one academic year ( I must be nuts!!) One will be a 60 pointer and the other will be 15 pointer. The 60 pointer starts in October and the other starts in November. Ive never done 2 modules at once in my OU career, so was wondering how you could plan both modules into a good study timetable and still keep up?!!! Oh I am also a stay at home mum just now!!

    Lorna Fletcher Hi Lorna, I'm hoping to film a study tips video this week ready to upload next week, I'm currently doing 2 60 credits alongside working 30 hours a week and being pregnant so trust me it's possible! The most important thing when studying more than one module is to keep track of your deadlines and prioritise reading/writing according to those deadlines, visual aids like wall calendars are good. Don't stress if you have a few deadlines that are close together and you don't get all of that blocks reading done, the assessment guidelines usually tell you which sections you need to focus on for the assignment, get those bits done and then you can loop back after if you need to revise the rest before an exam 😊 I'll go into more detail in the video so stay tuned! 😊 x
