The handle for the wind up jack being the wrong way around! 😂 so funny! My dad took me and the family along here as kids, the local cop said, yeah, you’ll be right.

My dad did a lot of surveying for Telstra back in the 80s and I often went with him. The Oodnadatta track was one of the may places we went. This is where my love for camping began. Thanks for the tips. Yes get a real jack lol. Nothing worse than a flat I had 3 in as many weeks once 😩

Justin another great video. In 2012 I did a stint over in WA working for Gina Reinhardt managing teams of surveyors. We 4WDrove virgin bush, no tracks all day every day. Three vehicles, 6 spares between them. I use to average changing 2 tyres/day. Once we hit 3, we'd call it and turn tail and head home. I couldn't get caught out in the bush over night - SOP's for Gina. So, home we went! Sometimes we'd pick up a 4th extricating ourselves out off the tracks we'd made on the way home, but mostly we made it- stressful to say the least. They were all split rims so after a long day I then had to have a beer of course while breaking down the rims and inserting tubes in all the punctured tyres. Then after that I'd try and fix a few punctured tubes ready for the next day. 12-14 hour days - Lots of fun. 🤣

Very informative. I agree the Oodnadatta Track is a great outback drive. We had perfect conditions in June 2013 and were the only 2WD car we saw on the Track in our 15 year old Citroen Xantia turbo 1.9 diesel with 120,000 kms. The fabulous height adjustable hydropneumatic suspension with front wheel drive was probably the most comfortable way for Marree to William Creek, Oodnadatta, Coober Pedy in one day. A fair bit on the track had been recently graded, there was just enough light rain to quell the dust, but too much on the short cut from Williams Creek as it closed that day. Lake Eyre was full, and not many flies.. but we did not camp. Marree Hotel and then the Underground Motel. Fabulous. No punctures and 5.4 litres / 100 km diesel. Loved it. I think the relatively light load and super compliant suspension and road grading contributed to the track being gentle on our Michelin road tyres.. Not somewhere I would attempt the Citroen party trick of driving on 3 wheels!!

4:40. thanks for the tip about a mat (instead of a tarp). the handle you had on the jack shaft was on arse-about. that's why you could only do half a turn at a time. I use my feet/ankles to position the wheel relative to the studs instead of my knees, but that's with car tyres, not 4WD wheels / tyres. thanks for all the tips!

Thank Bec and Justin for the vid we have just finished the Track and yes it was one of the bucket list, no flat tyres we run 25 psi in the back car tyres and 20 for the rest, didn’t escape free with damage as the microwave and a front water tank were damaged, we stayed at a billabong just north of Oodnadatta not on WikiCamps a locals spot that was fantastic 😎

Between William creek there is a side track to the peak telegraph station ruins and the ruins of an old copper mine. There is also the Algebuckina Bridge which is a good Camp site and an impressive structure. When we did it we went over to Coober Pedy and then back to William creek to finish the oodnadatta track.

@@SaltEarthandSun We did that route, all through there, in 2015. Rough as guts! No punctures though. The hot pools at Dalhousie were lovely - very odd being nibbled by all the little fish. We carried on north west up through the Finke river system, holy crap you've never seen bulldust holes like it - hundreds of metres long.
