I use Drop A tuning, then use the Downtune button on my Whammy Pedal. A truly lazy person's low tuning solution.

Kinda. I have the drop pedal which is the same thing without the whammy pedal, but you lose pretty much all articulation after like 3 semitones

Not really lazy. Weird. But you still have tension and don't have to set your guitar up for a whole new tuning and/or string gauge. I only find it weird if I can still hear the strings that aren't tuned down.

I like the F# standard tuning, sounds so brutal

I usually tune the G string a half step down from whatever i tune my 7 string too, which allows me to not only have the typical range of a 6 string from the low to high B strings, but it also helps with allowing you to use a single finger to barre the G, B, And E strings when playing chords on the treble strings.

Yeah tuning that G to an F# really does make a surreal sound. A song I wrote used DADF#AD tuning.

New to owning a 7 banger, getting a Schecter Silver Mountain in Green, multiscale. Almost was going to have the guy set it up for drop tuning until I watched this. Great timing

I have started with standard A, because of Korn, they have easy riff so they were useful to learn playing. Then I moved to standard A flat (also to learn Dying Fetus riffs, that are I standard C#) and now I mostly use drop F#

Yo, the way you explain things makes it easy to understand. Do you have any lessons or plan on do any?

I messed around with A# standard on a six string guitar, but the high strings felt too lose, and since I didn't want to mess around with setup, I spontaneously bought a seven string guitar this Saturday. I tuned it down a half step and then... Well, this is the tuning: A#-D#-G#-C#-C#-A#-C. The lowest four strings are normally tuned, the third string is in unison with the fourth string (C#), the second string is untouched (A#) and the first string is in C, just one whole note higher. It messes up a lot of stuff, but there are some cool riffs I can play on it. The tuning is A#m11/Bbm11, or so a chord analysis tool on the internet says.

The tuning I’ve been playing in recently is G# with everything else dropped half a step because I’m learning Icarus lives.

I tune to drop a, and sometimes use pitch shifter to go to drop f#. I chose drop a, because i started with 6 string guitars and if i am in drop a i still hyve e standard from the 6 string included. So the arpeggios are the same. Only on the low a i have to do it differently. But i like having an a string because b is a strange note and because of the powercord possibility. Also riffing is easier for me that way

Ryan-DXP The Tuning I use on my 7 string Guitar is a Minor Third higher because it's a Rare 7 string Terz Guitar.

On my 7 strings I use B standard (BEADGBE) and A standard (ADGCFAD). Although I am thinking of switching to drop A (AEADGBE).

Cool - Thanks! I learned on drop tunings and it's REALLY hard for me to play in standard for any length of time. All of my sixes and sevens are dropped. I learned off of tabs and drop D in the early 2000s by playing TOOL songs and various nu-metal from that era. Now I like prog, djent, and all kinds of metal and I can tell learning in drop tuning and with tabs has contributed to my plateau. I'd like to get better, but change is hard.

Have played guitar for 20 years Simply keep playing guitar, and learn songs that play differently than what you're used to playing, and this will always evolve your and diversify your skillset. I know it sounds simple but I promise it is effective.

Howzit bud. Please can you tell me what string gauge you use on your Jackson HT7 for standard tuning half step down? I also have an HT7 and ive been testing different string gauges? I currently have a 10, 13, 17, 30, 42, 54, 64. I am just wondering if its not a bit heavy for a 26.5 scale length guitar. Thanks in advance.

The only additional String on the 7 String Guitar is another B String (2 Octaves below the 2nd String) so that's quite an easy one. It even allows me to transpose a song to a key that's easy for me to sing in.

i own multiples guitars from 6.7 , 8 and 9 string. In all this i have 4 7 string, one standard scale 7 string in normal b standard, and i also have a nasty 30 inch scale baritone 7 string tuned to B standard but every string an octave lower, does it count lol

How wrong am I that on my 6 string i’m lazy for power chords I tune down where I can use one finger per fret for 2 strings for power chords and now want the same for my 7 string? (I only play by ear and dont know shit about tuning I just caveman mönkee brain match sound good)

Interesting... Just got my first 7 string the other day and I told them standard tuning for the setup. I bet they thought I was crazy to not drop C it.

I clicked on this expecting you to be wrong(with no basis to this claim as I've never seen a video of yours), but you nailed it. I was recently gifted my first ever 7 string last week and, currently playing in D standard on 6, I tuned the 7 ADGCFAD. Bravo.

IMO guitar should have always been 7 strings that B is REALLY key so are the notes in between, the low E is really limiting when writing forcing you to go really high for certain parts

that's why i have two 7 strings guitars: Ibanez Universe for standard tuning, ESP Horizon 7 for drop G

There was a brand new 7 string Jackson at my local shop for 250 bucks and I regret not purchasing it. Great video!

I've never had a 7 string but I am considering it just to tune the 6th string to drop D and leave the 7th in standard E. I think it would be a wonderful noise

The 7th string is a B standard. The 6th would be the E that you drop down to D in this case.

I love standard tuning since there is a lot to explore with many interesting patterns. Work even better with 8 string standard.

Visualizing the fretboard is so great on a 7. On a 6, the outside strings mirror the same frets (both E strings) and on a 7 both outside strings mirror (both B & Es)

as son as i brought my first 7 string home i snaped the high e trying to tune it

0:59 start at standard and the drop each string one step down. Not just the B string. Korn tuning.

BEADGCF with hipshot extenders on B C & F strings. Drop the B to A for chugs. Drop the C to B and F to E for standard tuning. Otherwise it’s just open 4ths

Gb standard on a 7string all the way

I’m glad i got something right my first time 7 string tuned to A STANDARD/ drop top string to G for Drop G 🤘🏻

The only way I play a 7 string is in baritone tuning with an extra high string, so BEADF#BE. I find it so much easier to learn that way since all the scales you know on a 6 string are still in the right place and it also makes lead playing a lot easier not having to think about that major 3rd interval on the top 2 strings.

Drop F# is the new standar :P

I use a pack of 8 string guitar strings and a pack of 7 strings. I buy the 8 pack for the low string. I go to drop g so that bass string really holds and hits the note without an uncontrollable string flop.

tune is BEADF#BE and you can use your standard chords just like on you 6 string but of course my tuning is drop A have AEADGBE i dont half step G like i do in my standard tuning

Beat me to it 😅 i've been tuning that way for years myself and after playing in that tuning for a while it really opens up the 7 string in ways that i could never have imagined, while simultaneously giving me a means to approach the instrument differently. I've been wanting to get an 8 string as well so i could see how this tuning works while being able to implement the low F#, allowing me to have two entire octaves for F#, B, and E.

I use my 7 string in B standard and my 6 string for drop tunings.

Thank you for saying what’s always needed to be said. I tune all of my guitars standard. My 7s as well. Due to scale work and chord structures and I recommend this to all of my students. 6 or 7 string players. Especially learning scales and chord voicings. It helps to visualize the intervals while playing. Nice work man

Any form of standard intervals is my typical go-to. So, keeping those BEADGBE intervals and down tuning together from there. Sure, I have drop tuned ones as well, but I love the standard tuning to easily extend scales to the full 3 octaves and such!
