Hi, we had our wisteria planted 2 years ago, it is so thin, when can I expect flowers? And how old is your gorgeous wisteria? Thanks

Do you know how old your plant was when you bought it? Wisterias usually bloom around 3- 5 years after planting. We have had ours for over 10 years, and has been blooming each year since then. If your wisteria is not juvenile (older than 5 years old), check to see that it's getting enough sunlight (6 hours a day) and that the soil is moist and well-draining. Try adding compost to the soil, and then adding a layer of mulch (compost adds nutrients and mulch keeps the soil cool). Lmk more about your plant, I'd be happy to help you!

I grew standard bay cuttings, and also make the twisted type, 5 good twists around a 1cm cane, takes years to get good plants but worth the wait, as when fully formed they look great. I will take some wisteria cuttings off my plant this year and try the seed method, 3-5 years sitting in the back of the garden will go in a trice. Great vid well done.

I have tried copper for snails and slugs. It doesn't work. They crawl right over it. However, a beer trap does work.

Buying wisteria can be very tricky. It doesn’t matter what variety it is, but you have to make sure that the one you pick already has blooms or it is GRAFTED. Growing them from seeds can take 10-20 years before you see any blooms, and sometimes when grown from seeds you may NEVER see any blooms. So I advise against wisteria grown from seeds. Best wishes!

I love Wisteria! So fragrant and exotically beautiful! There are several types of wisteria some Asian and some North American. Kentucky Wisteria is a native North America variety that I have and it bloomed right away. It was a couple of feet tall when I bought it in a large pot, likely a couple of seasons old, and it had blooms on it and bloomed heavily every spring after that. I also have an Asian wisteria that I have had for at least 10 years that has never bloomed. From the info I have read that is not uncommon for Asian varieties. I am in zone 5B and both vines get full sun in a southern exposure.

@@sodaratieng9507 get the Kentucky wisteria, native to a North America. The Asian variety can take a decade and sometimes never blooms on our continent. It’s best to get them from someone local as it will be more acclimated to your climate. You could try local nurseries, plant exchanges or even on Etsy or eBay.

Blue Moon Wisteria is only one able to grow in zone 4. The rest need zone 6 .None of them will grow well or bloom in windy sites

@@kevinjamesparr552 I get winter temps into the negative 40 degree range at times and more often negative 20 degree and have extreme winds often. Still my Kentucky wisteria, unprotected thrives and I have to regularly cut it way back.

Omg so beautiful 😍 🤩 can a top be cut of to make it branch out and grow as a tree?

I got 2 wysteria plants from local garden centre. 1 had already flowered. I planted them in the garden to grow around a wooden seating harbor . That was over a year ago and im yet to see any extra growth . Am i doing anything wrong?? The plants are still the same size as when i got them

how is the sunlight?

I took the fresh pods off this fall. Should I let the seeds dry out or put them immediately into water. Already took them out of the soft fuzzy pod.

I would let them dry a bit. Seeds drop when the pod is brown and dry

It will be 20 years when growing wisteria from Seed before the plant blues. It’s better to take a cutting after eating already blooming plant into grafted onto a healthy stock.

I bought some purple wisteria cuttings from a mail order.They arrived very moist.They are all about 18 inches long,some with root fibers.How do I plant these? Do I cover the root fibers and the rest stand vertically,or cover both ends with soil? What fertilizer would best?

Hi! stephen goodwin Since they arrived moist, I would say continue to make sure that they don’t dry out once you plant them. Make sure you plant them in well- draining soil, covering the roots. Don’t worry about fertilizer for now, however in a few months time you can add some compost if you’d like. If I had a photo, I could better assist you- I hope you found this helpful! @@BirdofParadise,yes,thank you.I planted them in a good,shaded place (but not too much shade).A few of the root fibers are showing,but they are planted pretty deep ,and we have had 5 inches of rain in the last few days .I will keep them moist,and add some more dirt and mulch tomorrow

@@BirdofParadise,you will.I have just started a garden,aiming for a semi tropical theme,(although their is already a row of PDesert Rose and Purple Sage along the back fence,which gets all the sun.They are established so will leave them)

Your wisteria growing on the arbor looks like my Kentucky Wisteria.

i love wisteria! i have two planted in front of my yard. i hang the vines in front of my gutters. every time when i flowers, it attracts alot of beatles. the beatles sometime knocks down my wisteria flowers. it pisses me off so much. i wish i can get rid of them.. thanks for the video.

I've my wisteria 5 years since then it blooms every year. This year we have a bad frost hopefully some of the buds will survive.

One for a trellis is enough I would say, unless it’s a large plot of land. We have 3 in one spot but it has a large surface area!

It just depends… it’s possible as long as it’s getting sufficient water. The question is, how often is it that hot? If it’s that hot all the time I don’t think it would survive

Anything that promotes good drainage. So I would say you can do a mixture of compost, garden soil, and some people add sand and cow manure (if possible). Wishing you luck and happy gardening 🙏

It could be a few things: •not enough drainage and soggy soil •mildew/leaf spot fungal diseases (if it’s fungal-> pluck off affected leaves, prune wisteria (it needs more air flow) and put neem oil on it Hoping this works for you!

I’ve personally never had success with cuttings, but I’d assume so if the existing plant is older. If you don’t have patience I would try stopping by Home Depot or Lowe’s this spring- they may have them in stock :)

Have you made wine from the blooms? I have some fermenting for the first time this year. The rest of the plant is highly poisonous, especially the seeds and pods.

Wisteria seeds rarely flower and if they do it would take them years and years.... best buy a grafted Wisteria.

It’s much easier that way yes. I’ve seen them sold at Lowe’s once… but it’s not too often you see them sold unfortunately

hi do you sell cuttings from your wisteria plant? I was told growing wisteria from seed may take up to 15 years to flower. Im not sure how long a cutting may take to flower but I guess will be less than planting from seed. Im looking for a small mature plant to buy or some cuttings. Thank you

Keep them in pots with a bands of Vaseline on the sides ...snails and slugs cannot climb over a Vaseline strip.

But the way, the soil must be snail and slug egg free when you plant he cuttings in the pots with Vaseline bands. You can sterilise the soil by putting the bag of compost in a microwave oven for 3-4 mins. Zaps all the bugs!
