I am very firm in my belief that the best decision Sager made with this book was setting it on the crumbling cliff side. Because, not only did we feel the tension of the mystery, but the literal tension of the house cracking and crumbling around them. 4.25 ⭐️

It also seems a play on Rebecca with Mrs Danvers dying in the mansion as it burns down...Mrs Baker dying in the mansion as it falls off the cliff was genius.

And how each floor of the house grows more slanted! I found that so unnerving.

The end got a bit silly but I loved this book and gave it a 4.25. Reveal #5 was an easy guess imo, and he literally gave you the clues to figure it out before Kitt. I did think #6 was someone else though

I think is funny that you guys say that he wrote the characters so no one could hate them, but I HATEDDDDD Kit, she was not kind, the thing she did with the snow globe??!!! Absolutely not. The way she felt absolutely entitled to the story of this women’s horrible trauma (even if she was the one that did it) and would not respect any of her boundaries (she blackmails her to get the baby story) like no. I know is a thriller so we need her to chase the truth, but the way she went about it made me absolutely hate her.

I gave it 3 stars. I thought it was ok and predictable because it reminded me so much of other books I’ve read and because of that. I guessed the twists. Also, the end felt like a soap opera and very over the top.

Hey, it's me. The one that didn't like it 😂 2 stars. It was a 4 star read until that last twist. Literally the last 3 or so pages just ruined it for me, but glad so many are enjoying it.

Even tho I liked the book I didn’t really like the very ending. 🚨spoiler🚨 Like why would she continue to pretend to be paralyzed after Lenora died? Like why hangout for that month or whatever and then just up and go?

Literally felt like 4.5 until the last 50 ish pages but that was most of the action resolution I was not sure if I wanted a different villain but also after realizing there were 2 Ricky's in the past I wanted them to bisexual drama but it was just two different characters. I think it is 4 but I also havel Lock Every Door my fave RS I don't know if it this can bump it if I try reading with eyes as I had audiobooks for last half and I was not feeling well and had this desire to get answers. So maybe I read it on paper and see if it feels higher or lower than current 4.25 ⭐ I did not really know If we needed the whole Jesse pov

The comp book that came to me while watching this live stream would be "The Thirtheenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. Young book reviewer goes to a gothic manor to here the life story of an old writer and its full of messed up family drama and some twists too

I would recommend The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St James. Similar but more ghosts.

Watching in the aftermath because I just realized that I didn’t catch this or watch and A Twisted Love Story is coming up tomorrow! I read this and gave it a 4 star rating as well! I just couldn’t get my head around the mash up that was the main plot reveal! Overall, I wasn’t disappointed and I thought I would be. I actually really enjoyed the ride and had a couple shocking moments. It was a good time.

1st 300 pages was 5 stars, last 80 or so pages was 2.5 stars...so i gave the book 3.5 to 3.75 stares. I think some people don't understand gothic novels and their set up. They tend to be slow building. They focus on atmosphere, setting, eccentric side characters, and the horror comes from emotion and ghosts of past actions. And gothic novels tend not to have so many twists...Mr Sager needs to seek some rehab because he's a twistoholic.

I gave it 3 stars, it was fun, but there is a fairly similar book The Thirteent Tale from Diane Setterfield, so I wasn't that surpriced by the twists.

This book was a 3 star for me. Solid main story. Not a fan of kits story or everything after ( *spoilers*) after we found out that Virginia was actually the one in the bed. Everything else felt like twist for the sake of it, much of it nonsensical and poorly (if at all) set up. It turned a fairly intelligent story into, what I thought, was just lazy.

Yeah I hated kits dad narrative. Hes the bad guy who murdered the wife and abandoned his pregnant gf. He "murdered" his flying wife by daring to respect her right to die with dignity. Then he also kills Mary bc....secret revealed? It's all BS to me--from the nonsensical plotting to Rick/Patrick just escalating in what he does without any real justification. how he could possibly get to stone cold murder from assisted suicide? There is just so much baggage with having him be responsible for all those things bc it also paints assisted suicide as basically on par with murder.

That said, Virginia was lanero, lanero was Ms baker. All that worked for me. It was big and a bit absurd, but it all felt successfully woven into the narrative being told. Contrast that to kits dad which doesn't fit whatsoever

I disliked Kit throughout the book. Even with her mom. 1) you leave out the pills for "just one or two more. Like just leave one or two fucking pills out. 2) her father was a better person than Kit bc he had.more compassion than he did imo.
