The Aleutian Islands Campaign was a military campaign led by U.S. and Canadian forces on the Islands of Attu and Kiska.
It saw the only land battle fought on U.S. soil in World War two. .
Apart from that, the invasion of the Kiska island known as Operation Cottage is remembered as one of the most bizarre actions in the entire war.

My Gramps was there in the 7th ID. He said the reason they didn’t have winter gear was because they were prepping for Africa when they were redirected to Alaska. At that point they had trained for deserts, urban, mountains, river and beach landings, jungles, but never planned on cold weather. He told me Attu haunted him more than any other experience in the Pacific. He said the contrast of the blood on the snow was on his mind for years after the war. He stayed on until ‘48 or so for the occupation and transition of power. After he passed I learned that I was the only person he ever talked to about his service time. God bless all our service members.

@Lil Heinz94 I'm sorry but the US is responsible for so many blue on blue casualties, im surprised you would even say that. You guys really need to rethink this "shoot first, ask questions later" logic. Canada had been at war since 1939. 12 PPCLI infanteers, 4 of them who died, would beg to differ when they received a 250kg bomb from a US F16. The only thing I'll give you is that the canadian military lacks funding and equipment.

Another HORRIFYING friendly fire situation happened during the Korean War. In order to distinguish friend from foe in the rough terrain, UN forces used ground signals to communicate with overhead aircraft. Problem is, the North Koreans figured out the signals and began copying them to confuse the American and other coalition pilots. This led to a couple of incidents IIRC where bombs were dropped on UN troops, one of them napalm. The poor American pilots literally were distraught and probably wished they were dead. I believe the signals were quickly changed, but talk about a DISASTROUS compromise of communications to the enemy!

Now I know about this battle, and it's honestly ridiculous and horrible how it went. These soldiers would've been alive if it weren't for the awful communication, and sending inexperienced soldiers there. Adding that the weather wasn't the greatest, it was a recipe for disaster. Thanks for showing this battle 👍🏻 I really would like a psychological horror film based on this while having a social commentary on what happened.

I Really want to see a movie about this lol. Think about it, The long drawn out build-up and tension. Add in some psychological horror elements. An unseen enemy, soldiers frantically shooting each other, realizing after that they've shot their own comrades. And after all of the build up and losses, they find out in the end that it was all for nothing. It would definitely be an interesting and different take on a WW2 movie.

Show the actual effects and process of death by gunshot wound and grenade. Show red tracer ripping through the fog. Show the terrified soldiers straining to hear the slightest sound, and later after taking fire, firing on anything that moves. Don't make anything up, just use the eyewitness accounts to piece together a narrative. This will be the scariest horror movie ever, and then you get the psychological horror of them realizing that the enemy wasn't even present and it was all friendly fire. You'll win an Oscar.
