    Reupload? Reupload? Reupload? LIke always, many of you will ask and yes - it is reuploaded. I am very sorry, the 7-cylinder Wartislla is not a 12L engine, but a 12 thousand litre one. Huge sorry, though I hope you liked this unique video. I wish you a great day!

    I love the new format, I have a blind friend who I've been attempting to show the difference in engines but he doesn't get it. I try to play video's for him but the constant audio leaves him bored. I shared this channel with him and hope it gives him descriptions of what he is listening to. Also when ever I click on a video with the same style as your's I am always let down.

    the fundamental problem is none of the angle unit system can divide by 7 and give an exact number degree: 360/7 radian: 2π/7 gradian: 400/7 unless you have to come up with newer angle unit system that have 362880 units for one rotation, then it might be viable or just stuck to radian and figure out how to calculate the exact value (radian is more complicated to deal with than degree btw)

Nuetral was stopped and you started it one way to go ahead and other way to reverse. Saw seven cyl engines in generating station in Brooklyn NY so big you could open a door in the side and walk in the crankcase. Thanx for a good article.

    That last engine (I think) was made in England by the National Gas and Oil Engine company, which was based in Ashton-under-Lyne. They produced a large variety of stationary engines from 1890 to 1961 when they merged with Mirrlees, another prominent British diesel engine manufacturer with a long history of its own.

They also had 2 "roots blowers" for each crank casing. Fixed rpm varied between 270 to 485, in emergency manouver mode. They made a fenomonal sound! Wichman was original a Norwegian producer. Great videos man. But tell me what happens to the exhaust on the Sulzer powered submarines? Wouldn't exhausting into the sea give their location away?

  • @Tom-Lahaye

    @Tom-Lahaye

    7 жыл бұрын

    Diesel submarines are usual diesel electric. The diesel engine drives a generator, that in turn powers an electric motor spinning the prop, and surplus energy is used to charge bateries. So when a submarine navigates at the surface it runs the diesel engine, and aslo when just below the surface not needing stealth, the engine then breaths trough a set of snorkels. When stealth is needed and the submarine goes below what is called periscope depth it runs on electricity from the bateries and the diesel engine is stopped. Because the surplus power from the engine goes to the bateries it can always run on the most efficient rpm, meaning around 85% of full power for these engines. For understandable reasons a diesel submarine has to surface regularly to recharge its bateries, and sometimes this means giving position away to the enemy, with the nuclear submarine this problem was solved. The nuclear reactor in these has so much power that it can even power electrolysis equipment to make oxygen from seawater and its therefore able to stay underwater for months, a diesel submarine has to take a source of oxygen with it from the harbour or resupply vessel, mostly in a chemicaly bound form, this needs regular resupply.

    "I literally cannot find any info on this engine, not a name, not even what it's hooked up to, just that it was apparently built in 1943. According to the internet it doesn't even exist, but here it is. Seems to run well though." That bit cracked me up. Honestly wonder where the hell it came from though.

    Quite interestingly two of these engines (Wärtsilä and Agco Power) come from Finland...

    6:14 It looks a lot like an early English Electric diesel engine. Probably a 7K as they were manufactured in 7-cylinder versions as well. But then again i might be wrong..

    Gotta figure that last 7-cyl diesel generator came out of a submarine, too.

    I knew of the Agco one and I have seen the Wartsila in real life. It was on a navy boat I think it was called David Brown, I could be wrong about that. I have known of the MAN one too. The actuall video sounds weirder too lol

    There are 2 more fantastic ones. Wärtsilä built 2 7L64 engines, the largest 4-stroke engines. By searching "7L64" you can find it running, with it's fantastic sound

    At 2:58 you say that the mechanism is to prevent the conrod from hitting the block... I believed the main reason for this construction was to avoid sideways forces on the piston. With this construction, you eliminate the sideways forces. But ... I am not sure... Any comments?
