I mean... is he wrong though? He was cracking me up! And your reactions to him were great, I could see your pain as he just casually stomped over the book. It Happened One Summer is a great idea!! Its got romance, character growth, and plot that actually makes sense. I think he would like it much more than this one for sure, especially since it doesn't have much of the bully component, which he didn't seem a fan of.

@@TheGoofy1932 magic bites is lukewarm at best, and the writing fairly quickly goes down hill. I enjoyed the first three books because of the main character but after that it just gets too murky. Plus, he probably isn’t going to read the whole series, so it wouldn’t make sense to get his opinion on just the first book as it’s basically just a paranormal fiction book at that point. At least a Tessa Bailey stand alone would give him a decent look into fairly popular, pretty well written, romance with an actually healthy relationship between characters.

@@chandlerainsley I think Punk 57 is a solid intro into bully romance, and very easy to read. It has its place in the romance world for sure, just near the beginning of someone’s path. I read it earlier this year after having been reading romance novels for quite a while and didn’t personally enjoy it, but could see where younger readers or readers new to the genre would. Nothing wrong with that, just means we’re getting older, right?

I finally read Punk 57 for the video! I’m with Haden on this one lmao. I would’ve loved it when I was younger- but now the bullying would’ve worked better if both didn’t know the other’s identity, like she didn’t owe him anything she can be a bitch if she wants

This has to be the funniest dbbc so far lmaoooo. I read Punk 57 bc of youuu when I started watching your videos and was a bit like ???? cause I basically have the same opinions as Hayden. I think reading It Happened One Summer is a GREAT idea, that one’s in my top 10 romances so I think he might enjoy it! And even if he doesn’t I’m sure it’s still gonna be fun, looking forward to that!!

Love that Haden was so detailed with his feedback and review! For indie romances, I would highly recommend Serena Akeroyd's Five Points Mob Collection (mafia). She has an MC series that's tied in to this series, the Dark and Dirty Sinners MC series, but you can read the two series independently. Also, I don't really read YA fantasy books but an indie adult fantasy/paranormal author I love is Sam Hall and I would recommend her Get Your Rocks Off series. It's off the charts steamy and the fantasy storyline is fun (Fae story). Great video. Happy Holidays!

If you’re interested in trying fantasy romance again, I’d highly recommend The Wolf and the Woodsman. I thought the fantasy plot was super well thought out and the mutual pining enemies to lovers romance was a wonderful touch.

I loved this video. For suggestions, I think watching Haden roast City of Bones would be fun. I feel like it’d be a good video as loads of people know the book and it’s different from what you’ve read before together I think? Also, it has good and bad parts so it’d be a hoot to watch and hear your thoughts on it. Another suggestion would be something like The Bone season. Something that has a fantasy/dystopian/magic element so Haden would enjoy, but also has a romance plot. Edit: also, what about A Discovery of Witches. It’s longer but it’s one of my fav books, has a great romance and plot. I’d honestly love to see both your thoughts. Plus, season three of the show is coming out next year. (Tbh, tho it might be hard to watch you roast it if you didn’t like it 😅)

What do we have to do to get a DBBC on the Off Campus series? I feel like it's a pillar of indie romances, and I would love to hear Haden's thoughts on it!

Punk 57 is one of my favorites so it was painful listening to him tear it apart and still understand where he’s coming from😂 I hate that he can always predict the plot twist though! You should definitely try As She Fades by Abbi Glines it’s one I haven’t heard a lot about but has a plot twist at the end that I definitely didn’t see coming and would be interested to see if it surprises him or not!

He brings up such an interesting and valid point though! Descriptors like racing veins and stomach flipping _could_ genuinely be used for anger and for nausea as much as they can be used for thrill and excitement or arousal & such. I think people frequently underestimate just how differently that different people truly can sometimes use and/or understand the same words or wording than someone else might/can. 🙂 I can definitely see how things like that can be some people's thing and not other people's thing at all - all depending on personal perspectives. ^-^ I'm that person who sometimes likes truly hella DARK-dark shite in my stories though, as long as its upfront about its messed-up-ness or darkness though(even when the point is that it's so messed up that characters within it aren't clear on how dark or messed up it is), so I wouldn't necessarily totally rule out the possibility that I might enjoy reading it either way(all depending on exactly how it all does or doesn't go) myself.. if any of that even makes sense .. but when I feel as if something is trying to pass something off as less dark or less messed up than it is, and if it's not fully justified in-story based by certain individual character's personal warped reality/perceptions or whatever, then _that_ is when I do start to feel like it gets squicky sometimes for me too. But this really just makes me all the more curious to check this book out myself, one day. And see how it does or doesn't read to me. Since I'm open to it going either way, and whether or not I would or wouldn't still enjoy it myself, depends entirely on exactly how it is or isn't handled in certain ways or overall. ^-^ Is this a romance? Or an erotic romance? (If it's the latter, it doesn't necessarily have to be strong on the specifically romantic aspect, because the erotic parts are as much or more the point as anything else?) 🤷‍♀️😂 Loll IDEK K Same with that epilogue too though! 🤣🤣🤣 Yeah, you gotta have that unrealistic [bordering on mary-sue-esque] success story ending!!! One person's garbage, another person's treasure 😘🤣🤣🤭😁 I can see it both ways, and can see why it's too over the top and/or unrealistic or sappy unicorn rainbows or whatever for some, and why for others sometimes that's just kinda exactly what you want especially for some stories or some characters.🤭🤭💖😊 I love watching you two discuss books with such contrasting yet amicable POVs, honestly, this gives me so much lifeu!!! ooh interesting... maybe y'all should read from Courtney Milan's Cyclone series 👀? I read Hold Me on your recommendation, and it was amazing, but I actually liked Trade Me a smiiidgeon more. He may still find them melodramatic, but I think the context for it helps.

OMG Bahahhaha, yes she is still shallow. Y'll r so fun to watch especially ur reaction Chandler (LOL). If I'm a betting woman I think Haden will enjoy it more than all the other reads. Me & my friend have been following ur DBBC and have read the books, when it comes to the male-targeted fantasy I rate it similar to u, Chandler. When it comes to the romance books I rate it worse than Haden (internally) BUT give it 3 stars on goodread, but it's truly cause I have outgrown them, I would probably have ate it up like twilight and 50 shades of grey, this man, gabriel's inferno..... when I was younger (25yr currently). We really enjoy this series more, Please & thank you. OH btw a good fantasy series that I think you both will like is Wraith Kings Book 1- Grace Draven, The Innkeeper Chronicles Book by Ilona Andrews(Husband and wife which would be so cool Since you guys are engaged hehhheeh, romance is a secondary plot, also for sure a DON'T judge a book by its cover LOL avoided this series for so long cause it reminded me of middle school) they have another fantasy series Hidden legacy which the main plot is romance.

I think Punk 57 is going to be an iffy book for people that don't like dark and/or bully romances. the dub con elements are going to be "icky" to people that don't understand the point behind it. (that's not to say this is Hayden but)

Regardless of difference of opinion...Haden shows flags of the green variety in his debate points. If you look at most dark/bully romance it's problematic as fuck but that's the joy of reading the fantasy of romance. It's fantasy

Although my heart hurt hearing him talking those things about my favourite book, I still see his points. The hate-fuck trope is definitely not for everyone. Ryen's character development was what I appreciated the most about this book. But it was also hot with the INASNE sexual tention. I think Haden may enjoy The Deal by Elle Kennedy. It has the character and romance development that I think he likes and a good plot ( and internal struggle ) and lots of banter. Also, no bullying.

I can’t have him slaughter the Devils Night Series please lol.
