Because I didn't know how to use the histogram, I nearly missed the greatest wildlife opportunity of my entire life. By just understanding the histogram you can get home with well-exposed images every single time. For nature photography, the histogram is crucial, if you don't want to miss your greatest opportunities. Another game changer in my photography was to begin using this technique: • Focusing: Why Every Na...

I hope you enjoy this video. Another essential technique, I suggest is that you use Back Button Focus, which you can learn more about here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z5qe2bxweLzaktY.html
Great Video 👍👍👍
This video really made my day. Even I am not into professional photography, I can completely understand what it feels like.
Very helpful. I knew about the histogram but hadn’t related the lcd brightness level to picture exposure. I’ll sure be checking it now. Thanks!

Great you liked it. Just to be clear the LCD brightness level doesn't affect the image exposure, but it can make you think that the exposure is bright enough if you rely on it, and if you haven't got the histogram enabled.
Thanks for sharing! Amazing fox pics :)

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you liked them
Thanks Peter for sharing your experience with great comments....as a hobbyist I still have problems with darker image results & always have to brighten them on my computer ..I am hoping with practice I will get improved results...I have Nikon gear... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊

Hi Robert, Thanks for your comment, and glad you liked it. Practice is how to move forward. As a side note, besides the histogram, switching on auto-ISO in manual mode, will also save you from a lot of the trouble of too dark exposures. You can watch one of my earlier videos on Auto-ISO if you are interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h4SOsthsipjaj9I.html. Anyway, thanks for watching.

@@peterbredahldam thanks again Peter for your help.....yes I do use auto iso but the shots still seem a little dark at times ...I have a Nikon D7100 & D500 so I will just keep practicing as you say... cheers 🦘🦘
I made the mistake of relying on the screen as well. I was filming in the sun and I couldn't see anything in the screen, so I lowered the ISO. All footage was usable but bland and over-exposed. Good thing it wasn't for professional use.

Ohh yes, that is a common issue with the sun tricking your eyes. I have done that a lot of times as well, before I used the histogram. Even though it wasn't for pro-use, I guess we all want to get home with great shots instead of mediocre. Thanks for your comment, much appriciated.
I am an amatuer photographer and I think the camera setting I would rely on are: Aperture mode (or manual mode) with auto ISO with histogram display. As I have learned that ISO is not something that will usually bring more data into the picture but changing Aperture and Shutter Speed will.

Generally having auto iso would solve the problem.

Agree :-) When I was a beginner I was very confused about all the aperture priority, shutter speed priority modes. Now, I almost always shoot in Manual with Auto-ISO, so I control the aperture and shutter speed. :-)

Yes, shooting in a higher ISO will lower the image quality, but you avoid a lot of the movement blur that can occur if you shoot in Aperture priority, (in my experience). Of course, if I don't need a high shutter speed, I will lower it, as it will also give me a lower ISO when shooting with Auto-ISO. Thanks for your comment :-)
