The One Armed Bike Racer Helping Others To Race

Ойын-сауық

28 year old Chris Ganley lost his left arm, and almost his life, in a motorbike accident 3 years ago. Six months after his accident he got back on his bike and now competes in Thundersport GB.
He also made it his personal mission to help other people overcome their injuries or disabilities so they can ride and race motorbikes too.

Meet Chris 2 days ago turning up for my practice session for Mod 1. At first shocked that he still rides a motorcycle. Then He jumped on his R1 and joined me and my instructor for the ride to the practice yard. Chris gave me tips on my riding as I'm a beginner, you're a Legend!

fantastic clip and i agree whole heartedly. i ride an 850 aprilia mana with throttle and front brake on the left hand bar. no controls on the right at all (except my starter button). it was an easy and simple conversion job and getting back out there has changed my life. although, just like kirsty in the clip, i 'dipped' it while coming to a stop, after my 1st test ride too.

I had a surgery last year to try reconstruct my fingers after I had a stroke during a procedure. I've been trying to adapt on this new life. I can drive my adapted car and thought never riding a bike again until now, you inspired me to get back on a bike in a near future once I can get one adapted as I thought it wouldn't be possible until I googled it x

I lost my thumb index and middle finger In a unfortunate Explosive related incident I used to ride dirt bikes and BMX And I was quite proficient After the accident I convinced myself it wasn't possible But after seeing this there's nothing I want to do more than get a bike with a right hand clutch and do 100 mile per hour Wheelies down highway And shredd mountain roads. After the accident I got very into cars But I have yet to to get close to the speeds on my local mountain roads that I used to do on my bikes Thank you so much for the inspiration I still have 2 fingers and an arm seeing what you can do makes me believe in myself

Just got into an accident two days ago where a car in a turning lane hit me and I went flying over the handlebars. I'm writing this with my non dominant hand at the hospital. I broke my wrist pretty bad and I'm due for wrist fusion in two weeks. Watching this tho, I can't believe how lucky I am, I will still have my arm and hand after this. this guy doesn't and still rides. That's insane. I don't know how he has the courage to ride after losing one of his arm.

This is an inspiration to me because I was born without fingers on my left hand and I work at a motorcycle dealership here in United States in Killeen, Texas and I’ve been scared of all the possible failures that I might have when I learn to ride but this gave me the extra push that I needed to get ready for my course next month

I have been looking for someone like you guys that I can talk to about this. I also was run over by a train and have always wanted to ride a bike. It never surfaced to the front of my brain until my son, (who was born with a brain tumor and has very limited mobility of his left side), told me that he wants to ride a bike. We bought him a 2008 Honda CBR125 last night and now we try to start the mods. So... both of us will be taking the steps to ride a motorcycle now with one arm. Please reach out to me so we can discuss further if you have the time. Thank you, Cam

Hi, fair play to you. lost use of my right arm back in 2003. Back on the road again on a cb400A Hondamatic ( 1980 2 gear semi auto) Do you use a steering damper? At moment I strap right hand to bars with a blood pressure elastic strap, but would like to just ride with left arm, right arm in a sling ( or even get it removed)... but unsure as to effectiveness of steering damper ---- cheers, Ade

I’m in Australia and have started a riding Blind project where people who are from legally blind to totally blind ride dirt bikes in paddocks at a motocross park. The people who are totally blind ride with a navigator following them on another motorcycle with intercoms in helmets. The people who can see a bit will ride by themselves or follow someone else. One of the coaches is a person who has lost the use of his right arm to a motorcycle accident but did not want to give up. I would love to get in contact with you Chris to see what team we could make. Maybe we can get riding blind up and running in the UK too. Maybe we can get disability riding in general up and running around the world.

I know this is a year late, but let's say you lost your left arm. You would move the clutch to the right handlebar. This means that you have the front brake and the clutch on that one side.
