The Old Whangamomona Road WITH the camper trailer! They warned us not to!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Old Whangamomona Road is an unmaintained paper road suitable for 4x4 vehicles. It follows the Whangamomona River and passes through native bush with two old hand-dug tunnels on the way. Its about 11km and takes you from Whangamomona Hotel to the Bridge to Somewhere. Mud terrain tyres and a winch are highly recommended. Don’t forget to stop at the Whangamomona Hotel and make a donation to the road maintenance fund as the track is exclusively looked after and maintained by the local 4wd clubs now 👍🏻

Grew up in Whanga. Me and my brothers would go camping/hunting /eeling way up the back of Whanga road. On our pushbikes. And go rafting down the river after floods. Was a slog in that thick mud. Brings back memories.

Nice work. Definitely gets greasy real fast on Papa once it gets wet. Other than how greasy it was, it looked to be in reasonable condition. I was watching as you went through the tunnels to see how nasty the approach to the Arnold river bridge was, but they must have fixed that at Labour weekend too. It had a nasty step when I went through.

Thanks mate. Yea youre right it was in pretty reasonable condition and if it was dry, it wouldve been easy as imo. Ive never driven on papa before and it was incredible how slippery that stuff gets when wet. Yea the locals told me they had a digger in and fixed that bridge on labour weekend 👍🏻

Hey mate. Some of our tracks over here have winter closures like this one which our 4wd community is happy to respect. If we continued to go in when theyre closed over winter, they would end up destroyed due to their soil type and become impassable for anything other than highly modified comp trucks. Its not too inconvenient though as theres plenty of other tracks here that are open all year round. Cheers for watching 👍🏻

Why would this track get closed? Its well maintained by the local 4wd clubs to which we also contributed to their maintenance fund at the local pub? To educate you… tracks get closed because people dont stick to the formed track, leave their rubbish and toilet paper behind, winch off farmers fences, dont leave gates as they found them and use tyres bigger than 33inch causing massive ruts… none of which we did or had. Thanks for commenting and watching 👍🏻
