I was lost in new age, yoga, bla bla... Meditation, mind reprograming with "energy psychology" and releasing "emotions"... I left all that, a born again christian, and I have found peace. While praying to our Father in Heaven in Jesus Christ's name, when singing psalms, or reading Scripture, or when with fellow brothers and sisters .. and my personality and character is continuously changing while I confess my sins, ask forgiveness... Glory be to God! Because this is only possible through His power, and mercy ❤️ God is my refuge and my light ❤️

II Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God..." I'm inclined to believe a lot of the old hymns were also divinely inspired, this one among them, and it's inspiring to hear these two sing it so beautifully. Thank you Tabitha and Michael.

Good Friday My take onit is that it's actually more important than Easter Sunday. Friday is when God's plan was actually accomplished. Our salvation was complete ! On the cross Jesus said "It is finished! Sunday was proof of the validity of God's plan and the power of Jesus over the grave. HALLEUJAH!

What a powerful song, old and yet so alive! The message of the cross, sung by you so poignantly and movingly, touches us and fills our hearts with thanksgiving to Jesus Christ, our Savior for all believing sinners! HIM be the glory this Good Friday and every day! Thanks so much from Germany!

The Story Behind The Hymn During the early years of his ministry, Rev. George Bennard was “praying for a full understanding of the cross and its plan in Christianity.” Consequently, he spent many hours in study, prayer and meditation, until he could say, “I saw the Christ of the cross as if I were seeing John 3:16 leave the printed page, take form and act out the meaning of redemption.” During these days the theme of what was to be his most successful song came to him. He was staying in the Methodist parsonage at Pokagon, Michigan, while engaged in series of service in the Pokagon Church when he finally perfected his song and wrote down the words and music. “Old Rugged Cross Day” is observed annually at this Church, and on a large stone nearby is carved the names of the original singers and the significance of the event. The song became immediately popular. Introduced before a large convention in Chicago, its fame spread rapidly throughout the Christian world.

I'm not methodist but it would be difficult to overestimate the value of methodist contributions to the hymnody of the Christian church!

You don't have to hope. You can know! Read the Gospel of John in the Bible and believe in Jesus and what He did on the cross for us sinners. He DID rise again and will come again to save us from God's wrath to come. Amazing that Immanuel (God with us) came to die for a sinner such as I. Then examine yourself. 1John in the Bible! Stay in the Bible my friend!

Just heard that my pastor and his wife were killed in a car accident; I am thankful that they are with the Lord, by His grace and His great sacrifice for our sins. It's times like this that I cherish the cross more than ever, knowing I will see him and his wife again. I’m very glad to know you put the songs to good use. About 15 years ago, my sister gave me a cd of acapella hymns. I would often listen to them on the way to church/work as well, and it gave me a deep seeded desire to do something like that too.

Thank you, thank you, several months ago after hearing your rendering of Paradise Valley, I requested that you sing this hymn, and it surpasses all of my expectations!!! My mother and I used to sing this and others at funerals when I was in my teens and early 20s, so this brings back so many vivid memories. My grandmother would play this song on our piano when I was a child. Listening to this rendition brings back sad memories of a time when my grandmother broke her hip and she was whisked away to a nursing home for the elderly where she spent the last years of her life alone without any visitation from her mature adult children - I was too young to understand her feelings of abandonment. May she rest in eternal peace.
