Repeated 1080 drops in there certainly won't help with the deer numbers

I agree 30 years of dropping it has an effect.

No, I think they started in that area about 2014 and approximately every two years since. Plenty of deer across from the hut before then and as long as I remember. Get in there fishing occasionally now, the deer sign is absolutely minimal now, plenty of goats wekas and blackbirds. The native birds don't seem to have increased from what I have noticed bar the wekas

Cheers for the comment, glad to hear there used to be good deer numbers in there. I was a bit confused with the lack of sign as the feed is all there. I'm not a trout fisherman but man those rivers were definitely awesome! Hope ya get plenty more years up there chasing those brownies. Cheers

Cheers bro, yep no deer around the grassy flats but I'm sure there'll be a few further up

Thanks for the vid, did a stint goat culling in there maybe 12+mnths ago. Camped in a tent on one of those flats- first job was to beat a path through about 100m of head high grasses down to the river for water 😂

Hahaha yep that grass is a crack up. Had had heaps of rain prior to me heading in so was nice n swampy. How many animals did yas cull? I only heard two groups while in there and saw bugger all sign so yas must have got the majority of the local population. Awesome job bro, keep at it and thanks for the message. Cheers

@@jbwild from memory the tally was a touch over 100. Still be plenty around though, she’s big country out the back there!

Mate, the South Island eh? As much as I love the Whirinaki, the best scenery is NZ is definitely down south. Shame about the deer and goats, but still a fantastic video. Thanks for sharing!

From experience the better hunting is up the south branch past goat creek..I've walked across them grass Flatts 😆 its ruff..been going into the area for 20 years..worked on the track over last winter..was eazy riding motorcycle up there instead of all the years of walking it..before the cycle track was put in..if your still in the area I herd a cuply stags last night..we could go for a look

Thanks heaps for the positive comment and offer for a hunt. Would've been keen as! We are currently in the Marlborough Sounds. Couple weeks away from home. I bet the motorbike would be the dream! Saw a couple of lads boost past while I was in there. Hope ya get onto a few during the roar if you get out there. And thanks again for the offer bro! Appreciated
