The Old City | Kurashiki

- Kurashiki is a beautiful historic city in Okayama prefecture, Japan. There was so much to do and see there so if you're in the area I highly recommend checking it out! You can stay in one of their various non-profit guesthouses like Yurinan (u-rin.com) or Igusa, or stay at a ryokan!

+NIJI XI I THOUGHT IT LOOKED FAMILIAR!!! Thank you for pointing this out!!
This looks like a place that would be seen in a Studio Ghibli movie. All the spirits come out at night, I'm sure. :)
"We also climbed a mountain" - I like how that was just casually mentioned between the offering ritual and the pastoral boat ride. Kinda like saying "we went for a stroll down the street with a cool lamp, had a lovely boat ride down the canal tha-- oh, we also defeated a cyborg dinosaur in a dance-off in jet packs over a cliff... not sure how safe that was, but then we got to try some weaving, so..." - thumbs up for the casual mountain-conquest.
WAAAT I didn't even realize you made this video! This is where I exchanged! Well, I was in the capital city Okayama-shi which was like a 10-15 minute train ride away, so I went here all the time.
Here's the promotional video I was in!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4ZslcF6YtzLZM4.html So this project was commissioned by Earth Cube Japan, a non-profit organization that promotes the preservation of historic Japanese structures and travel across the country. They created guest houses like Yurinan in this video, which have been reformatted from traditional houses that are more than 100 years old. (More info: goo.gl/DgDXHp) I was NOT paid to promote them in this video! But given its mission and NPO status I'm a big fan of what they do and give them all my support. ♥ They were really fantastic to work with and the promotional video we shot was honestly one of the best experiences I've had in Japan. We filmed over a total of four days, waking up at 6am and finishing between 10-11 at night (3am one night for our celebration party), but I never felt tired or impatient because it was all SO fun and everyone was just hilarious and great to hang around! I wanna go back to Kurashiki! ~(° ▽ °)~

All the places looks absolutely stunning. I have always thought that my sweet home country (Finland) is the most beautiful place on this earth, but now I have to say that the most beautiful place on earth is Japan. Thank you for making this great video. =)
This is why I would totally go to the smaller towns over the big cities in Japan when I finally visit
I'm so excited for Simon and Martina's experiences like this in Japan. You guys should do more collaborations once they get there!

It looks like a great place where the people are just as wonderfull as the city looks. I'd still like to learn more about Japanese history because media can give the wrong idea about it.
this is so beautiful...definitely need to go. thanks for always introducing us to new places, rachel and jun!
素晴らしい町ですね。これからも、昔ながらの良さを残していって欲しいですね。
Thank you so much for this video. I kid you not, but your channel really is the channel that inspired me to go to Japan 100%. I've already been once, yet I was unable to visit any places like this (I was in Shibuya and Urayasu.) I've been watching your videos for about 4 years now, and each time you upload, it gives me more inspiration and motivation to become a vlogger just like you and pursue my dreams. Your videos really help me get through my rough times. Whenever I fall into a depressed state, I always watch one of your videos. They help me remember my goal of returning to Japan and experience it just like you do. And because of your videos, I want to become a vlogger like you two so I can inspire others like you two do for me. This sounds exaggerating, but your videos did help me get through some tough times in my life. Especially when I was even thinking about suicide. But if I was to do something like that, I couldn't become someone as inspiring and caring as you and your husband. Thank you so much for being such a supportive KZreadr, even to a small channel and person like me! I hope to one day meet you and film a video together! Haha - Amber / HanamiDango
Rachel's laugh is the most adorable thing I swear, this city is a close second! Great video guys!
Yay thank you Rachel and Jun:) My partner Hiromi is from Kurashiki, we were there earlier this year, this brings back some lovely memories. Out of all the places we visited Kurashiki was probably my fave, at night walking around the canal area was just wonderful :)
Brother lived in Japan over 20 plus years, got to visit and saw alot of the country, I loved Kurashiki.
Kurashiki looks so peaceful and serene. I love historical places that feel untouched by urbanism. Thank you for sharing this!
What a great video! Relaxing AND awakening, I was so sad when it came to the end. 😭 Full of beautiful sites and warm feeling, please create more videos like this. ありがとう!
I have friends who live in Kurashiki right now but am moving to Tokyo next month. They say they will miss Kurashiki and I can see why it is so beautiful.
Japan is very lucky, the way they have presented themselves has caused for many positive opinions and stereotypes from outsiders. The people there must feel proud of where they were born.

+Rachel & Jun Good morning Rachel! I did the German subtitles once again. Three things: Please add the little note about the letter ß again if you remember it. Second: In German, we make a difference between you (singular) and you (plural). My question is: When you say something like "Btw, if you wanna watch the video..." whom should I address? You, as a singluar person, or you as a group of people watching this video? And thirdly, cherish your life and enjoy it to the fullest for almost everyone watching this video will wish to be you at some point. Well at least I am a bit envious ;) Is Jun feeling better already? I will keep my fingers crossed for him here in cold Luzern. Also thanks to Earth Cube Japan, I would love to see future collaborations with this group in your videos because those videos are awesome!

+Euki I don't really think it matters if it's singular or plural since it makes sense both ways, I used the plural form in the portuguese (portugal) subtitles because there are multiple viewers.

+Euki Thank you!! Hmm I guess it doesn't really matter much?? Maybe whatever is more common or feels more natural in that language for a situation like this?

いつも楽しく拝見させていただいてます。今回地元倉敷の動画だったので大変嬉しく見させて頂きました。倉敷は気に入って頂けましたか!またぜひ遊びにいらして下さいね!
These are my favorite kind of videos that you make! I really love them because they show the many different places to see in Japan. A lot times when you consider traveling to foreign countries, you only think of going to the capital or the most popular tourist spot. These videos are very interesting insights into places I have never heard of before. Thank you for all the hard work you put into making them!
Beautiful place, very cool and unique architecture. I was able to visit this when I went to my brother who lived in Okayama.
Watching your videos sometimes makes me want to cry. I can't wait to be able to visit Japan someday. So many beautiful places, delicious food and new people to meet. It's been my dream to visit one day.
Another reason why I love Japan. The people are so nice, and so kind to others. They are truly human!!
This was soo beautiful you do such a wonderful job showing Japan! All the history culture nature and people in this video made me want to cry it was all so beautiful. I hope I am lucky enough to visit Kurashiki one day!
This is so HD and professional holy crap!
in 2015 i spend a year in Soja as a high school exchange student. many of my school friends took me to Kurashiki and so did some of my host families. i loved the style of this place, i was just in aw every time i went. i don't think i'll ever find a place quite like that again, definitely on my "to visit again" list
Love how dramatic you were when talking about food haha
I'm currently studying in Yamaguchi-Ken and I came across Kurashiki completely by accident! I'm so happy you guys featured it on here! It's a great place.
Wow, there are so many beautiful spots
All the food looks so wonderful!
It looks so beautiful!!!
Waw the city looks gorgeous !!!
I love places where the people are open and friendly - even though I have major social anxiety I find it comforting if people are that way as I feel like they aren't going to be rude or hurtful and that maybe I can make nice memories :) of course I'd have to be able to speak Japanese first lol!
It's breathtakingly beautiful
Omg it all looks so beautiful!
every time I see another one of your videos, it makes me want to visit Japan even more. thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences with us. 😊
wow i lived in Okayama Saidaiji for about a year back in 2006 - 2007 i wish knew it had such amazing places so close to my apartment with my ex-gf at the time :(
Going to school in Okayama starting September, can;t wait to visit this place.
The promo looked great. I hope that you both have a great Christmas and a happy new year.
Wow! I'll be heading to Okayama and actually staying at Igusa in March during my trip! This vid just got me so excited. Thanks for the vid!
Your videos are amazing! I'm so in love with the more outdoor videos you've been making lately. Thankyou!!!
my homestay lived there, and this made me miss it so much.
Great video. I'm interested more in this kind of tourist visits than big cities in Japan. Lovely!
I love how you guys edit and shoot these videos, they're always so beautiful!
Thank you for sharing this with us! It looks wonderful. ✌🏽️
I always wanted to visit Japan. These videos give me a little bit of that dream. I love these videos, they are so awesome. Thanks for sharing Japan with the rest of us.
Kurashiki looks so beautiful omg🌸
日本はこういう所をもっとアピールするべき。
This video is so cool. I want to visit Kurashiki now, it seems like a pretty awesome city. Thanks for show all those things.
WOW! What a beautiful place!!
This is so gorgeous ...I gatta remember to go here someday. I don't know how you find all these beautiful places to go to. I'm so jealous, I hope I can get the money to visit Japan someday.
Oh my gosh! I lived in Okayama for awhile when I did my student teaching practicum for Kindergarten there. This brings back so many memories! Thank you so much for reminding me of those great memories. Okayama is such an amazing place, and not much can be found about it online in English, at least not a few years back. There are so many cool things there though! I still miss the pastries from Mozart Bakery and the cat cafe there is hands down, THE BEST one I've ever been to.
Nice a Vinten tripod. Haven't seen those since the Navy in the early 90s. We always had the best gear.
this is so beautiful. definitely want to visit
Out of all the KZreadrs I watch, you and Jun's camera is THE BEST. Seriously, it just makes your videos much more amazing, if that's even possible! ^_^
The clip of the ants carrying things looked just like something out of a Miyazaki movie!!! Well done.
Kurashiki looks gorgeous-- and your narration commentary was amazing!
i love the way you say things rachel :) you choose very nice things to share, thank you
I just love Kurashiki, it's so super beautiful, and so Japanese somehow. Great video guys, loved it. ^^ Thomas
if I ever go to this is summer I'd love to visit!
Awesome! You two are the best!
OMG I NEED TO GO THERE RN!! Thanks for the amazing video!!! :)

Just finished the promo! Wow! Really beautifully shot. Rachel, you look simply lovely! Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
I think I cried watching this... No, I definitely legitimately cried. I want to go, so badly. I love these communities and areas, so thank you so much for filming these kinds of areas. It helps me figure out my scheduling for when I want to go to Japan for my first visit, and the places I want to go to the most. This is so beautiful, and I definitely will be eating at that izakaya!
You have convinced me to visit this city for a day or 2. Thank you.
Looking at this video I cried I've been to every single place you mentioned, watching this video made me nostalgic
Wooow, how beautiful!!
A very beautiful video of a magnificent place! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful town, I WILL go there. One day, oh yes, one day.😄
Even tho i am from India I have a thing for JAPAN,SOUTH KOREA and CHINA ever since i was small. Their monuments and scenery alwayzz attracted me. I want to visit these 3 countries before i die hehe. I will try my best💖
Thanks for coming! I'm from Okayama prefecture. But I'm in Kyoto right now. You guys came to both place. So nice. My home town, not Kurashiki, has a castle. Spring, it looks like floating in cherry blossoms. It's so beautiful too. I hope you see that. Sorry,my English is terrible;(
Wow.. just wow.
OOOh I LOVE Kurashiki!!! one of my mandatory Stop Point whenever I'm in Japan :D!!!
Great video..Looks very peaceful there.. I'd love to visit.
Congratulations! You did a wonderful job with this video!!
My goodness, you guys just go to more and more awesome places!
I've never been to Kurashiki, but it looks nice, fan, exciting, wonderful & so on. I want to visit there some day if I have a chance.
Kurashiki is the Japanese sister city of my city and I’m currently on a two week student exchange in Kurashiki. We’ll be leaving in 2 days which makes me rather sad as this has been the best two weeks of my life. I’ve made lots of friends and have had so much fun exploring the city. I would highly recommend coming to Kurashiki if you’re in japan. From Osaka you can take a 50 minute Shinkansen or a 2 hour bus ride. I will definitely be visiting again once I finish school.
Great video and I am going to add Kurashiki onto my list of places to visit whilst in Okayama prefecture. I love these old Japanese towns & cities for all the reasons that you mentioned. Beautiful, friendly people & great food, a real taste of a more traditional Japan. And not a tourist trap that's swamped with tourists!
can't wait to vist japan. I'm defenetly checking this place out love your videos especially the ones where y'all go paces like Fox village... 😃
Amazing! Definitely gonna check this place out! すごいです!!
You're so pretty, Rachel!! I watched the video and you look really beautiful 🌸 so does the city, of course! I must visit it someday 😊
I'd totally love to live in a place like this!
What a wonder it would be to actually live there! awesome video, thanks for showing us such a beautiful place :)
Wow your video quality is unreal! Looks like an amazing place!
I have been following Rachel & Jun's channel for a long time now, since near the beginning and I can honestly say that their channel is by far still my favourite one to visit. I love Japan and I love being able to hear about it. Just watching the videos makes me want to pack a bag and hop of a plane right over to Japan! Keep up the good work Rachel & Jun! This place looks really amazing! Definitely will have to put it on my travel bucket list now :D
