Hey all! Quick comment. Because of how bright the Mini's screen is, a lot of parts might look blown out especially when another device is right next to it. It was super difficult to capture two devices with way different brightnesses, but I can tell you that in person, it's not blown out at all, merely a camera and ISO issue.

the video is literally focused on it, when shooting you have to choose between the quality of one over another, the odin 2 mini looks worse here due to a lack of very good HDR on this particular camera, it looks overexposed because it has more contrast than the screen it is focused on, which has less. the mini looks way better.

Buying it for the Vita form factor with the performance, screw the haters. Vignetting is well known on new gen Macbooks and doesn't bother the majority of the population so it shouldn't be a dealbreaker. Though I'll say if you have an Odin 2 already, you probably wouldn't need this other than novelty.

  • @geggyboy1269

I think the thing about MacBooks is they have bigger screens. Of course, I 100 percent agree with you don't get me wrong, but I can see why others wouldn't like the vignetting. The Odin 2 Mini has a pretty small screen, so that only makes vignetting more noticeable. Of course that's not a big deal to me though. I'm happily awaiting mine. 😁

An excellent first look at the Odin2 Mini. Today I learned that the "g" in vignetting is silent. I've only ever read the word; I've literally never heard it spoken aloud before. See, you're both entertaining and educational. IRT the handheld itself; none of my priors have really changed. It looks great, it runs great, and it seems to be pretty well built. The only knock I have so far, and it's a new one discovered thanks to this video, is that the speakers are more lackluster than the person that replaced Don Cherry. The full size Odin2 sounded excellent on my end, so, I don't know what's up. I look forward to your full review. Congrats on being one of the first to get this handheld. It should be a real boon for your channel, and you deserve all the subscribers.

Technically, there is a slight pronunciation, it shouldn't be a totally flat vin vs vign and it affects the pronunciation of the n after the g, but both are accepted. Silent is the easiest way to think about it, because you don't want a solid g or j sound.

This isn't much cheaper (in some cases more expensive) and probably less repairable than the deck. After watching Linus beat the F out of an Ally with the killswitch case on it against a desk, I expect a Steam Deck can take the same abuse. I definitely do not consider one of these to be a cheap beater device vs the Deck. I tried to buy a cheap pocketable beater and that was a bust.

Lack of ghosting makes sense. With the miniLED layer they can essentially rely on it for contrast, setting the display itself to a low contrast mode which helps eliminate ghosting. No idea how they managed to cram 384 zones into such a small form factor at this price.

It's unfortunate AYN couldn't get whatever magic was in the Pimax Portal QLED screen in the Odin 2 mini. Not like that screen was flawless either but a decent competitor to AMOLED, at least to my eyes, where I'm not bothered by the difference. Odin 2 mini seems like a fine option with a nostalgic form factor but for now I'm still okay with my AMOLED devices. Really only thing missing with both the Odin products for me is screen but considering the Android emulation scene has slowed down, I don't mind waiting. Thanks for the heads up!

If it is the screen itself, no matter what you do throttling wise you might not be able to get away from it being very hot. Which might lead to the device having a fail in the screen. Hi ! Playing with moonlight on triple A game like « Elden ring » on this little screen and this form factor, isn’t it to hard ? I saw you playing forza it seems ok but I keep doubting 😅. Thanks for your job 👍

Can any one help me. I have a basass gaming laptop so I have no need for ally or legion Go etc… will I notice a huge difference from emulation at 4K on laptop vs what I’m guessing will be 1080p or 720 on android emulators using this? I don’t care to much for quality however stable performance is a must.

Form factor affects performance. I agree that it's going to be minimal differences but it would be worth it if you wanted to get thorough.

Carefully see the input latency 1 frame by 1 frame, the mini is really response faster than the odin 2. I'll buy it.

Eh, I'd rather not have the burn in and play outside. For the price, you'd think it'd have one of the miniled that make it much closer to OLED, but I guess all the money is going for the SoC and profits

@@washuai OLED and burn in, it's not a thing in real world usage. For burn in to occur you need to display the same content for literally hundreds of *days*. I guess if you play outside all of the time this pretty much the only handheld that will somewhat allow that. But, look at that vignetting at 10:37, it's absolutely awful and very clear to see in an in game situation.

Still not sure if i want to buy the mini pro or the regular Odin 2 Pro. I like me an LED screen, but i prefer a larger display. Nu only concern is the screen of the Odin 2 (i had a retroid pocket 4 pro and the screen was ‘meh’ at best.. very washed out). Also the pocket 4 pro was uncomfortable.. its hard for me to decide because i am paying over 450 euro’s. Any advice/tips?
