The Northman - Behind the Scenes

Ойын-сауық

Take a look behind the scenes of the new film by Robert Eggers.
Alexander Skarsgård stars as Prince Amleth, who fled his home as a young boy after seeing his father brutally murdered by his uncle. And yes, that does sound like 'The Lion King' in a Viking setting.

I was an extra on this film and I have to say...the cast and crew...right to the very top with Robert...couldn't have been nicer. It's nice to see a lot of these faces again. Folk who I had the pleasure of working with. Thank you all. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of such an incredible thing.

I'm just a "card carrying" film and tv extra. There's a company here in Ireland called the Extras Dept. They're free to sign up to and, once you're on their books, if they feel you're the one for the job, they'll reach out to see if you're available. I've done this, some Game of Thrones, etc. Hopefully there will be more work coming soon. There's a lot going on i the Irish movie industry of late. Cheers.

I've always liked Alex Skarsgard and felt he's never had a film to match his physicality and smoldering talent. This looks like his ticket: A mid-budget action epic about his own heritage, with the careful eye and precision of a director like Eggers. I hope this is as epic as it looks. We need more carefully considered action epics like this now. This is this year's Green Knight, but from what I'm seeing it may deliver even more so.

I just watched the movie today (March 9th, 2023), and even on streaming, the epic feel just pushed right through, and you could feel immersed in the entire story. The production design, sets, costume, props, cinematography, plot, sound and acting are exquisitely genuine that you feel transported to a time where the viking saga felt so real. Kudos to Robert and his entire team and most especially to the actors and actresses who were equally amazing in their portrayal of their roles. Alexander is one of my top 5 favorite actors of all time and with such a star-studded cast, each one of them made the characters come to life magically. I have a newfound respect for their craft and ability to breathe life into the story and iconography. The details sewn into each aspect of the movie made it surreal. I wish to see more movies with this kind of calibre and historic retelling.

A mad, violent, feverish revenge flick that blurs the line between grounded historical fiction and lurid folklore. It's not for everyone; a lot of you will hate it. But watch it anyway - like all great art, it needs to be experienced for the experience's sake.

“Don’t say more than necessary” or “betra að þegja en að segja” We are still like that in Iceland. We have so much silence in our our conversation, that would at least torture people to insanity.

So excited for this, being far more authentic than most tv/movie portrayals. But also Eggers, and Alexander Skarsgard, etc.

Just finished seeing this movie on the big screen. I will never forget it! Doing some history reading about England in the 10th Century. "The Ecclesiastical History of England by the Venerable Bede! Lots of Viking raids at the time. Also my girl friend is Danish with the golden blond hair. Now I want to buy her a helmet just to spice things up!

Just watched the movie yesterday and am I impressed with the sheer will of the main character's desire to take revenge despite the cost of his own life at the end. The actors' skills and expressions were truly amazing and I couldn't have wished for a better movie that centred around love, vengeance and gory action in the age of the Vikings.

Every actor was phenomenal in this movie. But damn, Ethan Hawke has been killing it. Comic fans aren’t too excited about MoonKnight, but Hawke was great as the villain. He was soo great in The Black Phone, little dialogue and not being able to see his face sometimes but what he gave through is memorable. The Northman, a small role as a King was again great. I wish he had the same time as Mufasa did lol. William DeFoe as had a small role but stood out as he always does. My favorite thing in cinema is a great one shot take. We got two in this movie. Eggers understands revenge. A certain video game director does not.

I’m a practicing Odinist and we know when someone is just doing a cash grab on our religion, history and culture. This movie looks amazing and from the outside looks like it pays honor to the historical context. It’s comforting to know that Alexander cried because I started tearing up watching the trailer for like 20th time lol We have our whole family and several Kinsmen meeting us up to watch this. I’m so grateful for their authenticity ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Those scenes with the sea and the tree, the family line, the raven master, the valkyrie riding, MAN I was almost brought to tears with those scenes. This film is definitely something else. Didn't wanted to be too clear describing the scenes so I don't spoil it for the folks!
