The Non-Decluttering Minimalism Challenge | A Different Approach to Minimalism

Let's take a different approach to minimalism with this non-decluttering challenge! While decluttering is often a part of a minimalist transformation, progress can be made in this 1-day challenge that focuses on prioritization rather than decluttering. Of course, your actions of prioritization could actually lead to future decluttering, but that is not required to complete this challenge! I hope you enjoy the challenge and that you have a happy new year!

I really like using prioritization as a mental tool to make space for the things that I want and the way that I want my house to look and feel.

This is very intriguing. I like the phrasing of prioritization, which reminds me of not unnecessarily 'saving' the things that make us happy for so long that we never get to enjoy them at all. I'm headed into a season of life where there will be heaps of (necessary) clutter in my space on an ongoing basis. I think making room for the incoming chaos will be extra helpful right now.

This is a great perspective! There are definitely prime cups and utensils I use regularly. Next small project for me might be rearranging my favorite cups towards the front and bottom cabinet for easy access.

Those 20/80 studies just make me laugh, I don't have any clothing that I don't wear. My "closet" is the shower curtain rod in our defunct master bath. My dresser is my bedside cabinet (size of a couch side table), my underthings and pjs are in the drawer and shirts, jeans, and shorts are underneath behibd the door. I did just do away with my little black dress (I have a skirt)+1), since my body has gone up a size! The rest of the house, though, that's another story! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Very interesting. I host a lot and I have family abroad who come twice a year and stay with us for 2 weeks to a month with us. I don't need a table for eleven people everyday but sometimes I need one. The challence is to have a place to store the extras for hosting.

This is all so true. Where do we store that extra that we need quick access to once a year! My dilemma exactly 💯👍

I would probably end up buying one of those tables that expaaand. Have you seen those ads that show how they fold up so small? That's the kind I mean, not my dining table with leaves.

I feel like this challenge can be a great exercise for any type of minimalist, but maybe not so much for pack rats or hoarders, LOL 😂 Anyways, thanks for the tips and inspiration, Sarah! I hope you and Jake enjoyed the holiday season and the New Year 😊

I don't agree I believe this is a perfect idea and very fitting to a client of mine that is a hoarder. What is scary for people in that situation is that they are extremely attached to every item and even things that to you and me would be trash. It's really "change" that they fear so this "non-decluttering" will work much better since we don't throw away anything the video talks about a change of perspective and to start differentiating by prioritising. It's actually rather genius 👍 We will watch it together.
