The Noel Gallagher Guitars & Gear Interview
Музыка
The Oasis legend & High Flying Bird treats Dan & Mick to some epic sounds and stories!
Welcome to the show! Yes, It finally happened!
Noel Gallagher’s contribution to popular music cannot be understated. The multi platinum selling, endless award winning, mayhem causing, genre defining, monumental rock creating living leg-end has penned the soundtrack to literally millions of lives over the last two decades. For that we salute and thank him.
Today however, he pauses being a global superstar for about 1hr and 50 mins, to sit down and talk guitars, amps and pedals. Noel and his team kindly invited us to his studio in London where we got the chance to see some classic instruments and hear them at full-bore! We’ve never seen Noel open up like this about guitars and tones before, so please grab a beverage of your choosing and enjoy the chat.
Needless to say, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this happen, especially Mick, Noel's tech and Callum in the control room. Big thanks too to our old mucker Simon who made sure we were on point with the visuals. It’s a day we’ll never forget, thank you!

You can find hundreds and thousands of Noel interviews from over the years. But, this one is what I'd consider to be Archival quality. Something that could be watched in 50 years or put in a R&R museum for future generations to understand the place and time. It is an amazing capture.

I'm guessing it might be that he's always been asked about song writing and his band stories. I dont remember him being featured in guitar magazines in the 90s much. I've read his opinions on semi-hollw guitars and how Johnny Marr gave him a Les Paul when he was starting out as part of some general Oasis interview, but he had to be steered away to other topics eventually.

yes i can definitely see myself revisiting this a few times when i’ve forgotten it exists and find it again
Oasis, despite their influences, e.g., Stone Roses, Kinks, Beatles, Pistols, T-Rex, etc., actually had their own sound. Nobody really sounded like those early Oasis songs like 'some might say’, Bring it on down, cigarettes and alcohol, etc., they definitely sounded like... well, Oasis. That combination of amps just blended into something that only really Oasis sounded like. Great show.
I have to say this is the best ever interview I’ve seen with Noel Gallagher. His knowledge and passion for music drips throughout. Been a fan since the start of his journey and was fortunate to see Oasis live in ‘97. People around me loved Liam but I always said Noel was a total geezer. I owe Dan and Mick so much gratitude after watching this episode a couple of months back. I am 67 and started playing acoustic guitar two years ago. And because of my age it was more my kids that knew Oasis, and whether it was the stories about the drugs and alcohol, or the bad behaviour, or not, whilst I knew a few of their songs, I confess that I ignored them as a band. This interview had me hooked, and I have now watched so many of Noel's interviews (still ignoring Liam), and High Flying Birds footage, that most of the songs I am playing on the guitar are Noel's songs. I owe Noel an apology for ignoring his talent for so long. What a gem. My Noel Gallagher playlist is now on high rotation. Can't watch a NG interview without getting a laugh (brilliant sense of humour, well grounded, and someone who definitely does not take himself too seriously). Thanks to all.

Didn’t think i could watch 1hour 50 mins of any interview but watched the whole thing with a smile on my face, what a legend, so honest and down to earth.
What a great interview. There is something about Noel that makes you want to listen to what he has to say. Hearing stories of how your favourite songs were born never gets old.
This could have been 18 hours long and I wouldn't have once felt bored. Amazing work all involved!!
Apart from beeing the best interview of him I've ever seen, it is a huge lesson in songwriting, music and life in general. Thanks guys for making this a milestone of inspiration for me. Cheers from Germany, Julien

@@txplf23 Also not machismo and ego all over the place. he's always been very down to earth when it's a one on one interview. Then whole " Im the best ever " stuff was - by his own admission - a joke and usually when he had an audience to play up to. He once said ' the whole ego thing is just tongue in cheek cause you don't know how long your career will last so i'm just having fun with it. " or something like that.

There are great interviews out there, it's probably because you are a fan. If it wasn't for this, the Johnny Marr interview probably wouldn't have happened. I like it even more than this one. I'll probably watch that one more because I'm a bigger fan of his. But I love both.
Noel is such a bloke. This was an absolute treat.
Micks reaction when noel played "that" Dont look back in anger chord was proceless. Nearly 30 years of playing the wrong chord solved in an instant.

50 Minutes to end this and I have to say this is the best of the best interviews I have seen of NG. This is the real Noel. A real fanboy of Rock 'n' Roll culture. I always thought of him as a mystical somehow and this is the proof. Best interview he's ever done. He's so at ease here, the Oasis talk is not forced. I would assume this is as close to everyday Noel Gallagher you'll ever get in an interview
Noel is a complete talent-- vocals, guitar, and songwriting. Hats off.
I come back and watch this every few months !!!
There’s something about Noel sitting in a chair just strumming his guitar that makes perfect sense. You can see it now and over the years when he’s performing solo acoustic tunes on stage. He looks so happy in a way he doesn’t when he’s with the band. You can see the teenage boy in his bedroom room at perfect peace with the world.
"some of the best concerts I ever played were in my bedroom" - thanks for inspiring so many of us to do the same, Noel. I had many a concert in front of the mirror in my middle school / high school days before I got to play on stages, and I would play through What's The Story? Morning Glory for hours up hours. I love the humility of Noel knowing that while he is not the best guitarist, he is an iconic one, and more importantly a great songwriting guitar player who understand melody more than most. I can't agree more with him when he says there are plenty of guys playing flashy stuff with zero substance and no hooks - they will NEVER be remembered. Noel will never be forgotten comparatively...I still can't believe part of his early great sounds was a Marshall Valvestate with only a 12AX7 in it! From the bedroom to the stage indeed.
This is one of the best interviews with Noel I've ever seen. Usually when a record comes out you can eventually recite what he'll say on various radio shows, chat shows etc but this really digs in to his total love for music and guitars as well as what makes him tick now. Brilliant stuff.
this is a great interview - noel's always been a raconteur but this is amazing. takes a while for you to warm him up and then it's just golden...the enthusiasm here is infectious

We can think whatever we want about Oasis but it is hard to deny this guys have written a piece of music history. Back in the days, I was madly fan of britpop music with incredible bands such as Supergrass, Pulp, Radiohead, Suede, Elastica... and of course Blur and Oasis. This episode is much more than a perfect interview of Noel, it is like a time machine bringing us back to these golden years of f*****g good music! Thank you Noel and thank you TPS for making it happen! ❤
Thank you very much Noel for sharing all your insights. Indeed very inspirational. I feel honoured having had the chance to listen to this interview. Thanks again.
Incredible episode. Cranked the knebworth concert in the car on the way home after watching. The joy you could see on the guys faces at the end playing through Noel’s rig was just incredible.
Such an underrated guitarist. Even the early albums were choc full of really good guitar parts. I love the fact that he's just a guitar nerd like the rest of us! Who knew????
Probably one of the best interviews of any musician I have seen recently. Noel in particular can be a tough interview. If he’s not engaged or feels there is no thought in the interview, he can get snarky and abrasive, a bit like John Lydon. Seeing him reminisce and geek out with such enthusiasm is a testament to you guys. Thanks so much for a singularly enjoyable 2 hours.

The best interviews is when the interviewee is open and comfortable. That's the main thing here. He's mostly just talking with very mild steering from the boys
During my 90s childhood my Dad taught me guitar and we would play all types of songs, but the biggest influence for both of us at the time was Oasis for bonding together, the ''simplicity'' was a gift for me and my best memories I have with my Father, we were married to these songs and loved it. I know Noel knows he had an impact but he doesnt know how special and personal his music was for some people and especially in my case to me for my relationship to my father who died when I was 15 of cancer. Really some of the best memories I had in my life was playing oasis songs with my father and I could never thank him enough for being who he is and giving me those amazing moments I could bond with my Dad. I LOVE his recent stuff also its gotten alot more experimental, but its still an amazing style and unlike others I can think of Noel is not a tribute band to the 90s music, his current music is also incredible and relevant that I want to listen to the new stuff (cant be said for alot of bands/people who cant get out of their initial break generation).

Sorry for your loss mate got some great memories through the music from THE CHEIF 💚🎸
This is, with the possible exception of every John Leckie interview I’ve seen, without any doubt, the best musician’s interview EVER. Noel is charming, engaged, full of love for his instrument(s), music in general, as well as all the other musicians he’s worked with or admires, and, best of all perhaps, you guys gave him the space to chat and just be himself. He’s actually the complete opposite of the pre-conceived media-based public persona some of us have been encouraged to disparage over the years. He’s nothing like that person at all. He’s the personification of good grace and respect for others, not to mention hugely talented as a composer and musician. So glad I watched this, and I’m going to recommend it to all my snooty muso mates! Thanks for taking the trouble guys!👍 Steve, a bloody drummer, Blue Mtns, Australia.

There’s a KZread video about Vox history where the guy (obviously a bid fan) interviews Brian May. When Brian demonstrates how he gets the solo sound for Rhapsody by cranking the amp the guys turned to the camera and his face just says “toddling off to Heaven”. Notice how most interviews with musicians are just the same handful of questions, and the artists tend to look like they are just going through the motions? This right here is exactly what the world needs more of. I love seeing musicians talk about their gear, how they got it, why they use what they use. After all it’s all born from the same love of music just like you or me. It’s incredible the change in how they act in this type of situation, you can tell they genuinely are having a good time. This is how you get those candid honest moments and get a feel for who they are.
That is one the best guitar interviews I’ve ever seen. Pretty much kept on track and hearing those massively familiar sounds through the actual rigs is absolutely ridiculous. Really looks like Noel had fun and it’s pretty obvious this was so much fun for you guys. The looks on your faces when he plays the songs is priceless. Well done, brilliant job!
I’m guilty of forgetting what a talented guy Noel is and usually an interview with him just makes me think he’s a gobshite with a ton of attitude but hearing him talk passionately about his music and recognising his integrity is so refreshing. Loved particularly how he suggests an album is a completely different entity to a live performance which is something I’ve always felt myself. Brilliant listening guys.
