The Nissan Stagea - JDM Practicality (JDM Legends Tour Pt. 18)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So what do you do if you want a super practical but also cool JDM car? Well, you could get a Stagea. Now everyone will rave about the GTR-esque all wheel drive turbo version, but what about this? The much cheaper RB25DE engined automatic.... still worth importing?

Great review James - re your comment at 10:00 about losing the ability to make nice and comfortable cars - the ability hasn't been lost, and in fact should be heightened by continual advancements in suspension technology and powertrain refinement. It's all sacrificed due to Marketing Departments insisting cars must all be "sporty", have huge wheels and no tyre sidewalls, and drive like karts - and in many cases journalists haven't helped this - there's often a lack of evaluating a car against its intended use. The waft is gone sadly.

I think the Micra should definitely be thought of as a legend, even those with Renault electric components ugh!!! It was and always has been a cracking reliable, economical car, they just go on and on. As for the Stagea, it makes me think of the Toyota Chaser but with an estate body, looks a really nice motor, the economy seems to be ball park for the size of car from the time it comes. I always had that high seat problem with my Dad's Sierra Estate, never felt right, yet I drove a P100 Sierra and that was a doddle to get a good driving position in.

I have driven an e46 M3, albeit with an awful robotised manual which ruined the experience, I've owned a manual Z4M and I've driven an e46 330i convertible to Spain from the UK and apart from the horrible auto in the M3. The S54 engine is a wonderful thing in all Driving conditions. As long as it doesn't break and cost so much money of course. But money no object, how is the 330i better?

Who ever owns this and the Alto is completely clueless. A non turbo auto Stagea is just an old Nissan Estate, all its cool factor is gone by negating the RB25Det and the manual transmission. The Alto Works is really fun and peppy to drive.....With a manual, without it it’s just a restricted rattle box with 80% of its fun factor being thrown out the window thanks to the auto box. Daniel Smith still though ruins the Stagea for me. Use to go to many cruises and use to love seeing these, always had a thing for them. But the second me and the lads heard “auto” or “non turbo” our brains turned off and walked away. The special things about these cars are that glorious RB25Det, take that away and it’s just another Nissan. Put it this way, if Nissan had of made this car with any other run of the mill engine would anybody give a fuck about it? Nope bet your ass they wouldn’t. It’s like the MK2 Stagea, it has that gay U.S spec V6 from Infiniti and nobody imported them here as a result. There’s a few knocking around, can be picked up for €1000 - €2000 max all down to that engine. But look each to their own, do what suits you not strangers on KZread lol.

Daniel Smith I mean the fact that any broker I went to instantly classed it as a skyline, which it is not, it’s basically a Japanese Volvo and because of that they wanted to charge me as much as a 450hp Rx7, simply because most insurers will not look at the fact that it’s a big estate, as for the tax it’s a high tax bracket because of its capacity and age, I’m sure there are nice examples out there but after looking at 6 and test driving 3 I could not find one at a sensible price, Strut top mounts rusty or badly repaired, horrific body roll and worn or tired chassis, lazy engines, I found one I liked but because it was a autech the guy wanted 17g I would not pay 17g for a car like that, As I say I’m sure there are some stunners out there, like the ones that made me fall in love with that car and style but not 17k in love

@@BurpleRX7 Huh i guess some of that makes sense, i can't comment on the process of importing it as i didn't import this one myself, but the tax i see as reasonable, as it should cost more to drive a gas guzzling cruise ship sized car than something more modern and economical. The weird thing about the tax, is that my other car coming up, with 660cc is in the same tax bracket, that i can't explain. Insurance does see it the way you describe though, no way i'd be paying less than £500 a year for any skyline as a 22 year old. I guess i got lucky, I only had to look at this one and as you can see it's completely rust free, no more body roll than i'd expect for a tank and i still think it's speed is reasonable for a car of its size and weight. The only problems i've ever had is that the triptronic can be more than a little stupid at times, and i'm having the infamous issues with the coilpacks in the RB25, stupid misfire comes and goes and i've got no idea what's going on. For only £3k i couldn't be happier though, it's doing it's job perfectly.

I ended up getting a abarth 595 run around until I can find something that suits me, Everything JDM is rocketing in price which is annoying especially now some of these cars are becoming USA legal.
