The Nissan 370Z is a forgotten gem...

The Nissan 370Z is always a car i've been intrigued by. For their values they seem like a good proposition, is that the case?

I've been zipping around in my 2010 Nissan 370z since 2011, and it's a blast! It's the best mix of price, fun, and reliability. Only two hiccups: a common clutch slave cylinder leak (fixed with a trusty aftermarket part) and a fuel pump replacement. Despite my heavy foot, this sporty ride's been a dream. The only drawbacks? It's thirsty for premium gas and has a taste for pricey tires, but hey, you can't have it all!

Your smiles per mile had me smiling right along with you. I have one of these, and I sort of got it by accident. Way back when, I was looking for a video card upgrade, the Radeon 280X, but made a typo and typed 280Z (haha), and up came all these articles about the 370Z, a car I didn't know anything about. Fast forward to a month later, and I owned one, haha. I was a bit like you when I first test drove one. I was wondering why it wasn't more talked about and popular among enthusiasts. Obviously it's no Porsche in terms of the interior feel, but its driving dynamics and NA engine muscle are pretty good. I still like mine to this day, and I say this while also having a Porsche in the stable. The Z is pretty special, and has something unique about it. To drive it is to love it, more or less, and it's easy on the eyes, in a sort of voluptuous, Rubinesque, way.

Add the ECUTek remap in either the GT or Nismo... with the sharper throttle map and various other toys, and it's a joy! We'll have to get you in the driver seat of mine one of these days!

Ive owned my 370z since 2017. Its a 2011 and has covered 42k miles. Never lets me down. Its a joy to drive despite its slightly heavy feel but gives an analogue driving experience. The interior is fine to live with truth be told. Mine is still mint. Fuel economy ok for the size of engine. The only car id want to move forward to is possibly a cayman gt4 but they are way more expensive and there is definitely something about these z's that make you want to hold onto them.

I bought a 2019 370Z sport coupe 6MT new a few years ago and love the car. The anti-roll bars have been replaced with Hotchkis stiffer bars and the brake lines have been replaced with stainless steel braided ones for a firmer pedal. I'm taking the car to Los Angeles in a few weeks to get a Fast Intentions X-pipe dual exhaust and a Stillen gen 3 intake installed. The next day I'm going to get an EcuTek dyno tune done on the car. Future plans include a program of progressive lightening of the car, with a goal of taking about 200 lbs off without butchering the appearance.

I blend Sunoco SS100 race gas with the 91 octane pump gas to get 94 octane, which is what the car was tuned on. I also have another map for 91 octane in case if I can't get the race gas. I had a 987 cayman s which had engine failure and now own an auto gt model 2009, I would never look back even from a build quality perspective, the up shifts on the auto are savage to the point traction kicks in after every change on a pull and I think it sounds better and drives better than the Porsche did. Recently got an i20N as a daily though so I’ve found myself not driving it, knowing the 09 has oil gallery gasket issues I’m holding off to sort that first, miss driving it so much though. Like you say in the video these are so underrated, until I went to look at mine I thought I’d hate it but I loved it immediately, such a great car

Then in Dec its having all the paintwork redone and the alloys painted to match the black body work...I figured I would get more of a thrill out of the money spent than spending even more on a new car.

OK, BIG caveat you should have mentioned - that car has had a LOT of money spent on it. Stock, they are VERY different. I bought my 2010 stock model and only kept it for 2 weeks, I'm afraid. To summarise: PROS: 1. I thought the build quality was pretty good and I LOVE those 3 centre dials - best bit of the car. 2. Great gearbox - lovely, short shift. 3. Great looks all round, from any angle. 4. Very good ride on stock setup; firm but not uncomfortable. 5. Excellent brakes. CONS: 1. Stock exhaust is WOEFUL - sounds like a hoover, even at higher revs. Desperately needs an aftermarket setup, like the one in this video. 2. Torque below 3k RPM is non-existent; you'd have to really rev the nuts off it to get that 5s 0-60 time. A re-map may help, I guess. 3. Maybe mine needed a wheel alignment but I found the tramlining to be very bad - the car wandered all over the place and was very sketchy on any surface (I had brand new Michelins on it, so they were not the problem). 4. The rear wheels are so huge and give so much grip, it's really difficult to get any oversteer (you know, the fun stuff), unless it was wet. So if you budget a few grand to get it sorted, it would be better but then you're in to Porsche Boxster territory and they are much better all round (yeah, guess what I have now :-) ).

Liked the review Joel, I bought my 2004 350Z nearly 7 years ago and it's definitely a keeper, although it's potentially a daily and sits outside on the drive all year round that job is shared with a 1992 Daihatsu Fourtrak so both do very few miles a year with me working from home. The 350Z has just gone over 33K from new and always brings a smile every time I take it out, been completely reliable with just regular servicing which I do myself, keep up the good work and always enjoy watching your content. I did look at the MOT history on your test car which mentions corrosion on more than one occasion, I must admit I cleaned and painted the complete underside on mine just after purchase ( Do it on all my cars ) and it remains as good as the day I did it, worth doing though as some of these Z cars as you mentioned are getting on in years now.

I own a low km 2013 Touring Sport 6sp and absolutely love it! I've owned and driven many fast cars over the decades and it's probably my all time fave. It's rapid, maybe not the fastest car I've driven but plenty quick enough. Here's the thing with the 370z, add a few tuning upgrades, a nice exhaust and intake and it transforms the car, not just in the performance stakes but as a true driving experience, it's so visceral!!! After a lot of research into exhaust and intakes I fitted an Invidia Gemini cat back exhaust as it would seem to have no drone at all, and I can confirm it doesn't, along with a Z1 2.5" cold air intake as it didn't require any cutting of panelwork or crash bar to install. The result is totally intoxicating, one of the best sounding cars I've ever driven! Next is to install an Eibach Pro handling kit, lower, uprated progressive rate springs (only a 1" drop which is perfect) and uprated adjustable sway bars, I can't wait to get them on, then maybe an Ecutec tune!

I love my Z Roadster. Out of the box, it's a capable car. A bit heavy, for sure, but with a good spring/strut/shock combo (or coilovers, if that's your fancy), big front sway bar, and a decent alignment with adjustable arms, it's a decently balanced vehicle. So much more power can be pushed out of the factory drivetrain, the possibilities are only limited to one's pocketbook. I only added hi-flow air filters and an axle-back exhaust, and it thrills me every drive.

As for interior a lot of the same European cars from that same era had really crappy buttons and switchgear I think the Nissan is actually more basic and easier to keep clean compared to the other rivals. I have been and have own so European cars and I think the 350Z that I actually own is far superior on interior quality. I daily a q50s 3.7. It has 150k miles on it still running strong. Before this I had a g37 racked up 200k miles on it trouble free. Beofre that I had 07 g35x sedan it was pretty trouble free I had it till 150k miles before getting the g37. I track all my cars and drive them hard. I don't abuse them tho and I keep up on maintainence religiously. Pretty great cars if you take care of them and don't abuse them. The new vr30 motor has trash reliability and no more hydraulic steering as everything is electric now. This platform is very good reliable and budget friendly

I bought a one owner 66 plate Nismo about 2 years ago. Black with rear wing, accent red diffuser and rear splitter. Sat Nav. Stillen straight pipes, cold air intakes, Armytrix exhaust with internal switch. Pushing 380bhp. Cars on sale again now with just 40k miles and full history on Autotrader. £23,900 mind you. Not cheap although proper head turner.

I’ve been into 350z’s since they came out. I bought my first one 6months after I graduated high school. Enjoyed every second but I needed more power so I sold it for a rev up, eventually bought a 370z and had 3 other 370z’s after my first 370z. Sold my last 370z to get a 2019 nismo and man the love remains the same. Lots of cool cars have been released since I had my eyes on these Z’s and I still choose the Z. My love for these cars will never change

Had 2 350s and a 370 in the same colour as this video and enjoyed all 3 of them although the 2nd gen 350 (in the watery looking Nisan orange) was the best of the 3. IMHO the 370 tried chasing the German's and it didn't really work

Don't get me wrong, I liked it but didn't love it like the last gen 350. It got a bit bloated and 25bhp extra wasn't enough. Oh and the interior was horrible and it was thirsty

These beauties lost their luster is not just because of how long they were built, but also because Mustangs, Challengers, and Cameros were around the same price. By 2013, they FINALLY had the power to dust Zs.

I bought one after looking at more classic sports cars an contemporary Miata, Audi, BMW, Corvette, Lotus and Porsche. It's a great car with an awesome price point. It's not a "belly button" car and is just great fun. There is some serious cheap present. The compartment behind the passengers seat, the mirror adjustment knob... Biggest complaint: the gear select bumps over from auto to manual. The auto trans is very good, paddle shifts work well (they do feel cheap). Beware the Touring car:. The system is vulnerable to broken wires and Nissan really didn't get the bungee system right. When (not if) there is a problem be prepared to write a big check. This is good news if you're able to make repairs your self.

I own a 370z. Same colour also. They are definitely great value. Cheaper than a Porsche and Mercedes. They stick to the road like shit on a blanket. But good luck i finding a six speed manual with low kilometres. It took me ages.
