The Ninth Gate (1999): The Steps to Hell | Re-upload
Ойын-сауық
Staircases and elevators represent wickedness and sin. This video explores the correlation how high above someone lives to their corrupted nature.
The Ninth Gate (1999) was co-written, produced, and directed by Roman Polanski and starred Johnny Depp as Dean Corso. The film is loosely based upon Arturo Pérez-Reverte's 1993 novel The Club Dumas.

This is a re-upload to address restrictions and claims. Early videos on the channels had clips too long. This is why I try to keep clips no more than 9 seconds or use still images. Thanks for watching and support fair use.

I think that you left out a clip that showed Andrew Telfer did not fully kill himself as in the scene after the hanging. That scene, which directly follows the hanging scene, has an old man seemingly incapacitated in a wheelchair in a high-rise apartment in Manhattan facing out at window at the Chrysler Building. He clenches a blanket on his lap when his 4 volume rare edition of Don Quoxite is about to be undersold to Corso. The scene suggests to me betrayal by not only his wife, but by the legal custodians of Telfer, seemingly the adult offspring of Telfer. Furthermore it may suggest that hanging under the spell of the Nine Gates might counteract the sin of suicide if carried out properly.
Shortest version… 1666: Torchia 1999: Corso There’s a new “Devil’s Apprentice.”
I always have this impression you are revealing to us ancient secrets of the occult. You have such a nice way to reveal symbolism and meaning and make us think about movies in a different way. It is almost like we are part of a small circle of initiate. I like the mood so much for the explanation of these sort of movies. Your Ninth Gate explanations are your best.
Whereas Corso had no fixed abode... he went to all places from the highest to the lowest which may be one reason he was the one to succeed
BRILLIANT. I thoroughly appreciate and enjoy your 1st class videos. Thanks again. * Leo da Vinci said, "There are 3 classes of people; those who see, those who see when shown, and those who do not see."

Thesis, anti-thesis and synthesis.. Corso: "someone is playing a game with me" Isis/Lilith: "of course your part of it, and your getting to like it" You too are also part it because of the fact that you are 'seeking' the knowledge... the alchemical process is at work
Love how in the beginning we are introduced to balkun by corso climbing up at the lecture to view him, and balkun coming up to meet him asleep. Then at the end corso up high viewing balkun to then go down the stairs to meet him
I'm glad you did this. Fascinating movie with so many subtle things. I missed so much
Thank you, I appreciate your profound videos.
Really enjoyed the subtle dig at Polanski in this one lol

Yeah for Polanski to drug and sodomize a young teen girl makes him one sick and sinful dude. Not a wonder why he's still living in Europe.
To Brave The Arrows Of Misfortune, And Fear Neither Noose Nor Fire.
I’m here for this!!!
The reason the knight is making the silence sign in the first drawing is because there are going to be some murders in this story. You might compare The Ninth Gate to The Secret Window, if you haven't already. It 's similar in look and plot. Depp sleeping on the couch = Depp sleeping in the lecture hall. The blonde wife shows up about the same time the blonde Girl shows up.
Wasnt Bernie in Donnie Brasco?
How do they go down an elevator and the be in the skyline. Must have gone up
The S in Dumas is silent.

Cool video series though. This is such a fascinating Movie.
There are many doors that should be locked, left open in the first act of the film, and in the second doors that are locked but opened by the girl. are these "gates" Corso is passing through on his journey?
Corsic was clearly being groomed from the start to be the devil himself! 😂 He just had to accomplish a not so perilous journey but a very exciting one with death chasing him.
