the size of the switch makes sense considering it needs to be big enough to show large console games on the screen, where a game boy had games made for it that accommodated for the screen size, but the switch accommodates for large screen games

I agree with basically everything you said but I just want to say that in my opinion, the sideways joycons is my favorite addition to the Nintendo switch. Having 2 controllers attached to a console with good 1st party games that (almost) always have good multiplayer is awesome! I can just ask someone if they want to play smash bros with me without having to bring anything extra.

I think think the game box of the switch took up too much space and they should return to a more 3D look similar to Mac OS 11. Perhaps making a grid layout as it works the best on 3DS and Wii U. You should be able to have menu music and custom themes too.

Going to someone else’s island is soooo annoying if others are there too. I hate getting stopped every time someone comes or leaves ACNH uses amiibos too but it’s the cards and not as much the figures. Still deserved a mention though.

The lack of legacy content is one of the switch’s biggest missed opportunities. This is the perfect console to port older games to due to being portable. I think the NES and SNES selections are good, but N64, Game Boy, and GBA games are lacking and we’re getting those games at a snails pace. The lack of GameCube and Wii games besides the once in a while remaster sucks

I think that the next system would evolve the switch as much as tears of the kingdom compared to breath of the wild, not removing the switch idea or be stuck with the same thing but more powerful. I think they will have it as a hybrid and be backward compatible but have a completely new branding unlike the Wii U, I proposed the name ‘Nintendo Attach & Switch’(It will make sense later), the switch part explaining it’s backward compatibility and hybrid. I think they can have a top slide rail for attaching accessories like an second screen or a camera. Best of all, it won’t increase the cost of the system by really much. I think the second screen can be attached when portable and detached when docked, creating an experience like an Wii or DS. They can also have a camera set including a front and two rear camera, also with an microphone, this allows for AR games or games that detect your body part. This can fill the missed opportunity of the switch like dual screen and AR.

Extra: Would be great also they did a smaller switch successor like a 5.5” all screen design with the complete functionality, the dual screen can be clamshell to protect your next generation system, I also think replaceable button is a great idea, offering GCN buttons and d-pad, they can have a lock in mechanisms like the slide rail

@@jumentoqueanima You are right, I think Nintendo is working on 2 system: -A spiritual successor of the switch trying to appeal to the switch/majority audience: My ‘Nintendo Attach & Switch’ concept, it’s underpowered at 1.5 tflops portably and 1.8 tflops docked launching 2024, or something similar that evolve the switch to the next level -A more powerful Switch that appeal to the gamers: It’s more of the secondary system and actually it’s what people called ‘Switch a pro/2’ using the leaked t239 chip, even dual chips to compete with PS5/Xbox series, expected to only sold 10-20 million units and focused on 3rd party games with the disc rather than cartridges. The system don’t have Nintendo games and you have a primitive sandbox to run ‘Nintendo Attach & Switch’ games, it can be released at around 2030 or cancelled.

I really miss the streetwalk function from the 3DS and all the mini games in it. I really liked that army game and also that gardener with all those flowers. After walking a day with my 3DS, I was always excited to see how many people I got. Once, I remember seeing a couple who came in my shop, in my 3DS streetwalk !! I immediately recognised them and I kinda wish I could have seen them again to talk to them about video games > It really is sad to see all those functionalities disappear, having our own Mii interact with others, that poll thing. Also, on my 3DS, I had bought some Zelda themes. If only they could make those things port over to Switch.

My biggest complaint about the switch. This is mostly due to it being somewhere between a handheld and a console… Games planning to release on multiple consoles including The switch have to heavily throttle their game in order for the game to run on the switch. As example the game developers for monster hunter rise have said that the switch placed a hard limit on what they could do. I love monster hunter and monster hunter and it breaks my heart to think what the game could have been if the switch never existed.

the part that you said I might disagree was the only part I did agree in this video, the HD Rumble is used more often than you think, maybe you could of mentioned the home button that has a light behind it. Also, it would be cool if the switch light had the 3ds circle pads so you would have to worry about stick drift when putting it in your bag without a case.

Totally agree about the ickiness of Nintendo Online. I bought that dance game just to find the content was locked between an additional, subscription based, paywall. Totally feel scammed I’m on team, the switch is too big. Finally bought myself a new 3DS, because that’s what I want in a portable console. A huge game library that I can fit in my pocket plus the ability to play older Console games helps. When I’m sitting on a subway, or an airplane, I don’t wanna be digging through my bag opening up cases and watching about dropping things on the ground. I want something I can pull right out of my pocket and put right back into my pocket quickly when things start getting crowded or moving.

The thing about the size of the switch is that yes it is bigger then you would really want for a portable device but at the same time I don't do sit on my TV so I really wouldn't want it to be smaller because then it wouldn't look as good when playing the game so it's kind of one of those weird types of situations

The lack of personality and customizability is the worst thing that ever happened to the Switch. All it's got is funny lock screen noises and the click/switch noise when you slide a joycon in. I'm pretty sure the only reason they abandoned stuff like Miiverse and Streetpass is because it relied heavily on Miis, which Nintendo wants to forget about for some reason.

the thing with "HD rumble" its hard for devs to add it when most people use different controllers like power a 8bitdo etc that don't have it just normal spinning rumble also the effect is only fully noticeable if your using the joy cons as Wii nunchucks and remote style! in handheld mode or docked in the grip it just feels like better then avg rumble even for first party games! also I really wish Nintendo did enough crazy calibration so that the motion controls where just as good as the Wii so we could have more Wii games ported! skyward sword keeps on messing up because it don't know where the center is (no Wii center bar) we could of had more rail shooters also sword fighting games!

My main issue with the switch, (dunno if newer models fixes it) is the docking station. On random occasions you'll dock the switch and you'll get no sounds going to the tv. The switch easily overheats after a short while making you wonder why the docking station didn't have a cooling system or another way to hold the switch so the accumulated heat isn't trapped inside a switch-sized slot.

Sounds like you have a defect one, i've never had issues like this. And i've played games for 24h+ with no break. The sound issue can also be cable issue. Overheating could be cause of location you have it, or the vent/heatsinks is full of dust. the heat also get pushed upwards from the switch. So if you have one that get heat stuck down in the dock i would be worried about the dock/switch.

I literally saved up to buy splatoons. Then had the awkward talk with my parents asking if they could spend some more money on a video game, just so I can play it. 🤣😭

The size is a bit annoying, but understandable. The designers tried to make it as big as possible so multi player games could be playable in tabletop mode. Imagine playing Mariokart with four people on a screen the size of a smartphone. I do sometimes wish it was as convenient as a phone though. I tend to play games on my phone more often because I don't have to worry about completing a long level or going finding the next save point, plus I can easily slip my phone in my pocket when I'm done. With the Switch (at least the games I own) I need more than twenty minutes to feel like I'm making progress and I can't fit the Switch in my pocket when I'm done.

I think if nintendo didn't use motion controls in the joycons, the switch would be perfect. I used it a lot for aiming links arrows cause I suck, but I don't use it passed that and I know people who only used it for like 20-ish min before turning it off and playing normal. the parental controls didn't really add much past making parents feel involved in their kids lives. there is so much put into the switch that not even nintendo uses all of it if at all

Feel like I have to run down the list, here. Joycon: I think the biggest missed opportunity here is stripping out pretty much every one of these features so the Joycon could not only be cheaper, but higher quality. HD rumble, while neat, is generally terrible. Incredibly noisy, uncomfortable in the hands, and not as satisfying as traditional rumble. IR camera was, as mentioned, only useful for Labo, which I'd be fine with not existing if it meant removing the IR camera entirely. While I used to like collecting Amiibo, "support" (if you can even call it that) has always been so lackluster it might as well not be present. Plus, with the flooding the market of an onslaught of different types of Amiibo, while simultaneously never manufacturing anywhere near enough for the average person to buy (unless you wanted a Charizard or something), made me personally lose interest in them, so I'd be fine without NFC functionality. Motion controls for aiming is, generally, pretty overrated. Even with the tiny crappy sticks on the Joycon, I still don't know how anyone likes it on the Switch. Wii U had decent gyro, so I understand wanting it there, but on Switch it's pretty poor. I wouldn't be against keeping it in, since I know a lot of people like it for some strange reason, but if offered cheaper Joycon without it, I'd take 'em. As for sideways Joycon, being uncomfortable isn't the half of it. Have you ever actually tried using the Joycon as wireless controllers? They have a range of like 5 feet before they start dropping connection super frequently, and regularly fail to register inputs. Forget being uncomfortable, if you're not using it in tabletop mode, huddled around the screen (which I've never had an occasion where it was warranted), it's almost entirely unusable. Replace some of the useless features with whatever's needed to make wireless controls work, or don't have it as a feature. I've had to have plenty of Joycons thanks to them all crapping out on me sooner or later, but this has always been a consistent problem. Online: I'm not thrilled with any part of it, but I don't care a whole lot, since I rarely use online functionality in games, anyway. Occasionally, if a game comes out with an online feature I want to use, I might pay for it for a short time, but it's really just made me go from rarely using online, to only having used it a few times in the console's lifetime. I don't think it would've been any problem for them to provide it to players like me for free, but not only is it unreasonable to expect them to weigh an individual players gaming habits, but I think they know most people are just going to bite the bullet anyway and pay for it, even if they don't like it, so free money for Nintendo, I guess. Themes: What is there to be said about Switch UI? Short answer: it sucks. Long answer: it suuuuuuuuucks. Seriously though, I don't mind a sleek and clean design, but they REALLY dropped the ball here. Themes were great on 3DS (for the most part), and the Switch being the following act makes it feel very devoid of charm and personality. Game content: Frankly, there aren't many games on Switch that felt they were worth the asking price. I don't know if it's because of Iwata's passing resulting in new folks that just don't care, or if it's just a shift in tactics that was timed coincidentally to start around the time of projects from Iwata's era finishing releasing, but Nintendo has really half-assed most of the Switch library. Post-launch updates not only don't make a bad game good (frankly, a lot of the games that suffered from said update model are games that I'd be embarrassed to have my name tied to had I worked on them), but typically still result in a below average game. It's like the game releases 50% finished, has 30% added post launch, and the remainder is nowhere to be seen. Plus, I want a more-or-less complete game on my cartridge. Once the servers get taken down (which IS going to happen, sooner or later), I want to have a full version of the game. It's bad enough that DLC is a thing (I don't mind DLC, in fact, it's responsible for half of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U's tracks, I just want it available offline), but having a game chopped in half of physical release makes it feel like it's not even worth getting the games physically. Community: Never really used Miiverse, but I hear other people liked it. I guess having more collectables added to games in the form of stamps or whatever was kind of neat, but it's not something that really interested me, since I'm the kind of person that doesn't even have a FB/Twitter/Instagram/whatever account. Social media, generally speaking, doesn't interest me so Miiverse never caught my attention, nor did the Streetpass stuff on 3ds. In fact, with 3ds, lots of games seemed to tie mechanics into it, which when you live in a rural area where you're one of only a handful of people that are very tech literate, is just a pain in the ass. I'm happy for no more Streetpass making games worse, but it sounds like people enjoyed Miiverse, so it's kind of sad that it's gone. Portability: Honestly, don't care. I have enormous hands, so while its thin form factor makes it uncomfortable to hold, it's easier than things like the Vita. And worried about scratching the screen? Did you even own a 3ds? The raised ridges around the lower screen almost always put scratches and indentations in the top screen. It helps if it's a clamshell with raised edges around the outside, preventing anything on the inside from touching, but I've gotten fewer scratches on my Switch screen than any of my 3 3ds' that I've owned, and my Switch doesn't even have a screen protector or case. I also don't have much trouble fitting it in my pockets, and my workplace has a somewhat strict dress code, so it's not like it's in sweats or anything. It's pushing it a bit, but I never find it to be uncomfortably big, as though it's stretching the pocket. I do agree that I like a smaller handheld, but on the other hand, as games put more and more stuff on the screen, the harder it is to absorb visual information on a smaller screen, so I think it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Either allow games to fit more information on the screen, and make the screen bigger to accommodate, or make the screen smaller and put less on it. I don't think there's a good solution, unless every handheld game system is just a controller with the system built into it, with a jack for plugging in some AR glasses to play on, or something. Missing games: Luckily for me, none of the missing games appealed to me much anyway, so I'm not missing out, although I do feel for the fans, as my missing games I've been wanting haven't showed their faces since the GCN/NDS eras. Never really liked Prime, never liked the level design much in the DK games, and while I love 2d Mario games, I never really go into the New Super Mario series (not from a lack of enjoyment, but from not having the opportunity to give them a shot, though I just got one on Wii U second hand, so that will change soon). That said, Nintendo, if you feel like bringing back Custom Robo, or talking Fromsoft into making a new Lost Kingdoms game (just please tell them to get their crap together first, so they know how to make something that plays well again for the first time in the past nearly twenty years), I'd really appreciate it, and buy it day one. Conclusion: Yeah really agree on the lineup. Switch is really a console that I think only flourished by cannibalizing the Wii U. If not for the Wii U, I think that, in terms of software sales, Switch would've been an absolute disaster. Wii U was a great system held back by its marketing (as well as its hardware, to an extent, but not as much as many insinuate in my opinion), while Switch is a great system held back by a combination of over-design, under-implementation, poor hardware quality control, and bankrupt creativity. While I like my Switch, I think that if not for Nintendo's marketing being good enough to get lots of people to buy it, followed by Wii U era games being re-released for it, then it would've been one of the biggest crash and burns of Nintendo's history. They're just lucky that so few people bought the Wii U and played its games that they were able to pretend like old games were new ones in order to bolster the Switch's abysmal library. TLDR; Switch, while having its upsides, has largely been an unrelenting shit-show that's mostly succeeded through good marketing and games they already made that few people played, rather than individual merit as a system.
