The Niche Zero is Officially Dead!

With the saturation of grinders in the market today, the Niche Zero has been replaced in many coffee bars including mine. The Niche Duo came out a year ago and it seems to be a rare sight in the coffee world and it isn't because the demand for it is high. Enjoy this video about the Niche Zero and why I think you shouldn't buy it in 2024!

Thoughts on the DF54? I would love to hear your take. I have an old Hario V60 grinder and I'm looking to buy a new one for espresso. I don't know if I should buy a flat or a conical.

Haven’t used it but from what I heard it tastes similar to the df64. The main difference is the 64 has a lot of burr options. In other words I wouldn’t hesitate on picking it up

Great video! I am cheap 200 for a grinder is my limit. I use a manual grinder and love it. I really thinking about a df54 or sd40. ☕️😎👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

I'm super happy with my Varia VS3 Gen 2 with the hypernova ultra burrs. Better looking than the Turin ones, and also very easy to use. And this burr set, both espresso and filter coffee are great

I had two units of Varia both had issues as they have plastic internals. First machine broke down 4 days after purchase and the second 3 months after the 12 month warranty. No support from varia except to spend more and replace the whole motor unit which will cost over $200 AUD for the same plastic internals no thanks. Stay away from Varia if you are thinking of purchasing one.

@@BarefootAngler Maybe you used light beans? I see every reviewer saying it is fine to use light beans on Varia, but they say in the manual to not use light beans for espresso

Would be curious to know their margins. They'll probably either have to slash prices or go out of business. I also wonder how many units they've actually sold.

Baratza Sette has many quirks (very loud, very shifty dial while grinding, many plastic componets that easily crack especially when disassembly for deep clean, very very high rpm lots of fines. Again very very loud. Niche Zero used on marketplace for $300. Easy calibation, softer noise, best workflow in its range, very very low retention. Flavor wise its good not great Every DF grinder has its quirks. Declumper clogs, bellows and fines flying, plastic cup equals tons of static cling. Playing with the df54 now . First initial grinds held lots of retention. Plastic cup sucks. However marker alignment was easy, grinds 18g in 21-25sec in fine mode for High Extraction basket like the mischief spirit. Pleasant noise. Antipopcorn helps with feed and no stall issues. Flavor has been clean with fresh light roast beans. A few weeks of testing will see if it brings out more clarity compared to niche or if its placebo B.S again. Still give the niche the better workflow though

niche definatly wins on workflow. Cant believe the niche used is $300 already. I sold mine maybe a year ago for retail.

These other companies made their money and now the landscape has changed to make good home Espresso more accessible. Not saying it's easy to produce but does a quality consistent bean grinding machine with steel parts need to cost $700+ in 2024? An Espresso machine with way more moving parts in involved makes more sense being pricey imo. Time to adapt and innovative. Loving my DF54 + Gaggiuino combo.

i'M OLD AND WISE...BUT i THINK YOU'RE YOUNG AND WISE. wATCHING THIS VIDEO WAS LIKE LISTENING TO MY OWN THOUGHTS. (Sorry about the caps...I'm not yelling. Caps lock was on.) Anyway, I;'ve been a coffee nut since I started pullimg all nighters in college and med school many moons ago. I've had many espresso machines (maybe 15), roasted my own beans, used distilled or purified water, tried all kinds of gadgets but the single most important increase in the quality of my esprersso was upgrading to the Turin DF 64 gen. 2. What a beautiful piece of equipment. Built like a tank. All the previous deficiencies and foibles of previous Turin grinder models were addressed and corrected. In spite of all my experience, I never realized how important was a great grinder used properly and the price was at the top of the value for dollar scale.

Awesome to see such praise for the DF64 from someone with a lot of experience. I'm a happy camper pairing the DF54 with my Gaggiuino. Upgrading to the 64 for burr options might be my endgame. Also awesome to see an honest video like this one. We need more honest reviews like this.

Am I supposed to do a research to learn all the models you mentioned? Sprinkle some visuals, man. As of right now - I don’t care since zero does a good job and I don’t want to spend more time (which equals $ in some cases) to learn what else is on the market. Not to mention some logical flows in your statements - zero did not live up to you expectations but a cheaper model does almost as good… does that mean you are ok with even lower grind quality for lesser price?

I thought he stated that pretty clearly. In fact he stated several options of $500 and under or $400 with an upgrade and get just as good results. He very clearly stated that there is such minimal difference with more innovation and options without spending $750 dollars…

@@andrewrawlings7180 I described my take, and I have no desire to watch it again to fine-tune my message. I was showered with model numbers; without visuals and descriptions, they are meaningless. What was the point of the video to begin with? To suggest better options? Then, line them up instead of spewing the model numbers; then let people on the market decide. For people owning the tool, this video adds no value.

You can get better results than the niche for cheaper. The Turin DF grinders are pretty common knowledge now in the coffee field. Also all of the grinders are mentioned in the description.
