The NICEST city in Southeast Asia?
We use English and Portuguese in our videos so turn on subtitles if you get confused!
We weren't planning on going to Singapore at first, but decided to try it out for a few days and do not regret it! It was a wonderful and vibrant city.... and a little expensive... for us...

We are Juli (Japanese Brazilian) and Trevor (American) and we are traveling the world looking to find a place to call home. We are backpacking and traveling on a budget to see as many places as possible, doing volunteer exchanges, couchsurfing and so on. We don't just focus on tourist places, but we want to see how people in each country live on a daily basis.

the best city in the world

We really loved it even though we are not city people!
There are tons of hawker food centres starting from S$3, but you choose to go to some restaurants because you don't have cash on you. Tourists come to Singapore to experience the wide range of affordable local "street food", not the restaurant, which can be done elsewhere in developing countries with lower cost of living. Also people make a mistake of comparing prices in Singapore and other SE Asian developing countries. Singapore is the only developed country in SE Asia and so prices in general are expected to be higher than in those neighbouring countries, since salary will also be higher.

Yes, we definitely should have gotten some cash out but we only planned to stay for two nights. It was certainly not as expensive as we thought but it was still pretty pricey for us (coming from Japan). We were really surprised by how many cool things there were to see for free though!
@17:11 "It's a little bit pricey, but we're right next to the water..." I thought you were going to "dine and dash"... or dine and dive and swim away!!! :-) Anyway, you had an eventful birthday - Cosplay convention and chimichangas. Come back again! When you have more money! We'd love to see you again! With more money! Tourism contributes to our economy... but only if tourists actually spend money!!! 🙂 But seriously, glad you enjoyed your time here, but the two of you seem like the sort who enjoys themselves wherever you go, so this is more about your positive approach to life than anything. Hope to see you back here. Maybe for another chimichanga? Or naan?

Hahaha if we were just going to Singapore it would be fine, but we are budgeting for a world trip so we have to be a bit careful. That said, I definitely think we will come back to Singapore for a dedicated visit someday!
Juli and Trevor..hit me up next time you come to Singapore..you went to expensive restaurants and i can take you to places where local Singaporeans hang out and eat the real local food..safe travels!!

Wow didn't know Singapore can be explored at such a low budget. How much did you spend? US$100 for 2 people excluding lodging?

It's definitely not cheap. We spent about $100 USD just on food for 3 days. BUT all the activities we did were free (except the movie) and the transportation was cheap. That's the nice thing about the city. There is a lot to do and see even on a budget!

@@juliandtrevor I don't think you guys went to the right places to eat, if you are going for budget options. :) For hawker centres, a rice or noodles meal can only be USD 6 per person including drinks. So for two USD 12 for lunch and dinner . Breakfast maybe slightly less. Let's say USD 18 x 3 days = USD 54. Might be able to get it down slightly lower, if you hit the right hawker centres and choose the right food. But glad you two had fun in my country! :D

Your right! We were also celebrating a birthday so we splurged a little. Thanks for the advice though!
Of all the food foreign to my mother's good old American food (the best) Indian food is my favorite

When it’s comes to food… Bad choices made. You guys were at the Chinatown hawker center. But opted for restaurant instead? Really?

Why are Americans like that? Don’t have local money in your pocket? Some places, you can’t use the local toilets???.

You need local money to access the local toilets in many countries.
