I used to be a cook at a retirement home. I met an italian guy who used to be a chef.....I spent two hours after work hanging out with him and he taught me everything I know about cooking (Didn't really have "there" parents.) He was the kindest and most awesome man. When he died I had to quit. I was so heartbroken I couldn't do it anymore. You can learn the most from your elders. Respect is earned.

@mobilemodular5725 I am so sorry for the loss of your very dear friend. I'm so glad that he was in your life and a very precious part of it. I totally understand how painful such a loss can be. I'm a care aide who used to work in long term care, but now work in an assisted living facility. The people I look after are, for the most part, quite lovely and I've learned a lot from them. The elderly have a lot to teach us and we need to listen to them and learn from them. People at every age have value, and we all need to respect each other and listen to and learn from each other.

I’m a 30 year old man who has a friendship with a 71 year old woman and her friendship means a lot to me more than most of the ones in my age group. She’s taught me a lot about respect but not only that, but how to be positive in life and be happy with what I have. She’s been a widow for 30+ years, and she’s also unfortunately lost a lot of other people, including her parents at a young age and she’s still positive and loving life. Respect your elders, not only because of what they have been through or their age, but also because they are human beings who deserve respect just like everyone else

The knowledge these men and women have is phenomenal. Sit and listen for a couple hours you never know what you can learn. About 15 years ago one lady taught me how to make blind dovetails. One of the things I love about Filipinos is that they're typically very kind and respectful to others. In western societies, that isn't always the case, which is one of the big reasons I prefer living in the Philippines. Disrespect can be blatant, but it isn't typically dished out so. Talking down to anyone, especially an older person is disrespectful. A disrespectful person usually derives their disrespectful ways from insecurity and low self-esteem. In essence, they're pretty miserable human beings who want to make everyone around them miserable, too. A person who is disrespectful to others is often trying desperately, often unknowingly, to feel better about themselves by looking down on others. Sometimes their aim is to try to find something negative about other people so they can one up them and feel like they're superior. Disrespectful behavior comes in a variety of different packages, but you will definitely feel it when someone is dishing it out to you. Disrespect can simply be done by someone ignoring you, pretending they don't have any free time to respond to you, talk to you, or get back to you. When the truth is they're getting off on treating you like you're a rug, unimportant and not their favorite rug. A person may also disrespect you by asking a personal question in a way that seems curious rather than disrespectful. But of course, their mere questioning you is disrespectful, especially when what they're asking about may be highlighting something negative or unattractive about you and is absolutely none of their business. What do we do when we're being disrespected, or worse, abused? I run into lots of people who allow themselves to be disrespected or abused ongoing. That often comes from their belief that people can change or worse, that they can change them. While that can certainly happen, huge chances are it won't ever happen. It's not our responsibility to change others. It's their responsibility. Our responsibility is only to ourselves. The one we have the power to change is ourselves, not others. Whenever I encounter anyone disrespectful or abusive, I get away from them as quickly as possible and I stay away from them. Like any other wild or crazy animal, an abusive or disrespectful type of person is flawed in a way that you can't trust. Unfortunately, many people are treated so badly in life because they don't exit a bad situation or relationship. For whatever reason, they remain in what I can only describe as a living hell. When it comes to disrespect, abuse, etc., I live by these words. No way. Get away. Stay away.

Mrs. Wellington is a great woman who, because of her years of teaching, knows how to reach even the most troubled of young people. It's obvious that she loved teaching and people, and that she was great at her job. Her compassion and caring for others shone through. I love how both in Bus Stop and in this film she was able to reach two young people who'd experienced loss and needed someone to help them.

Watching both Bus Stop vids - one thing I really like about Mrs. Wellington is how straightforward yet understanding she is - although she got authoritative with Chloe at one point in this vid (she didn’t need to be quite so stern with Carter as he was less confrontational with her and nowhere near as vile to her as Chloe), she was also quick-minded enough to see what Chloe and Carter's troubles were and find a way to help them. She obviously saw that unlike Logan here and the other two teens in the first vid, Chloe and Carter were actually genuinely nice people who were troubled by something - in both cases, by the loss of a parent - and just needed some direction. But as well as giving them both some guidance, she also took the time to listen to their ideas and take inspiration from them both too. Thought it was lovely that she referred to Carter when Chloe asked why she was taking time to help her, and confirmed that they had stayed friends as well - I kind of hope that, with Chloe telling Logan where to go, perhaps Mrs. Wellington then introduced Chloe to Carter, and they became friends too - they'd certainly both be well-suited to each other
