Dude, this is so AWESOME! One of the most frustrating parts of a video walkthrough is knowing the angle of view....and you fixed that!

Glad to see IP is still building. There aren't many U.S-based bluewater manufacturers left. I'm curious how IP is mounting their chainplates. They used to glass them in to the bulkheads (no bueno). I see they did away with the hoyt jib boom and modified the sail plan. Likely this sails better than the older models (can confirm, slowwww), but with a full keel and wide beam it's still going to be a lot slower than cruising boats with more modern underbodies, especially to windward. That's okay, it's a plush ride.

My Rigger informed me that the chainplates are glassed in and completely enclosed but I’m half tempted to text Darryl and ask him directly.

@@RameyFamily not much of concern for a brand new sailboat, at least for about 20 years. IP is a great builder, so I always questioned why they did this in the past.

@keeldragger how do you fix the issue on a used boat? As well as the tanks ?

  • @keeldragger

@@RameyFamily My 1970 Tartan 27 had encapsulated chainplates. I drilled a pilot hole in the bulkheads and rusty water came out of each and every one of them. Best fix was just to cut out the entire bulkhead tab and replace with new, along with chainplates and thru-bolts. This can be a huge task on some boats, especially if you have to remove furniture to access the chainplates. I just re-did the chainplates on my Valiant 40. The rigger was able to pull all of them in a day, but the chainplates are all easily accessible. My fresh water tanks are under my settees. Fortunately, these are easy to remove with very minor furniture disassembly. Most manufacturers did not prioritize tank repair/replacement and this can be an absolute nightmare of a project. I dread having to replace my 95 gal alum diesel tank. It's directly under the cockpit and while I can sort of access it, it's not coming out in one piece. My replacement would likely be to remove the old tank and replace it with two saddle tanks in the lazarette floors. Not ideal since I'd lose some storage space but I wouldn't have to cut up the entire cockpit to install replacement tankage. I almost purchased a Panda 40 where the prior owner cut the old 100 gal black iron tank out from under the teak & holly cabin sole. He replaced it with an alum enclosure and an aviation-grade fuel bladder (almost $7k for just the custom bladder). I understand why he did it--the interior was impeccable and he didn't want to cut it up.

The question is.....at base price of $800,000 then you need $100,000+ to commission this boat, how many people ca afford that? This will be $900,000 to $1,000,000 until you leave the docks. Are you all ready for that??? ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW.

Yeah, this video is recorded last year. And I started the savings plan back when a well equipped one went for $499k A used boat is likely for me now. But hey, at least I saved enough for the initial goal right?

I can't help but think they are lagging behind european production in terms of bang for your buck. Is it an impression ?

When I first found this boat it was listed as $499k “well equipped” And had it not been for the dramatic price increases in these last few years I would say yes it was very well priced and you got a lot of good boat for great value Now. I’m likely buying used unless I win the lotto lol As far as European brands. It’s the VAT tax that is country specific that makes it such a variable for me. I am a big fan of the Sirius 40DS and after exchange rate fluctuations and foreign tax policy I am pretty lost. Amel, Sirius, and any Swedish boat…. All lovely boats of course but it’s too hard for me to plan the finances this far out

I don’t know. I’ve seen European production boats of similar size which are not blue water boats and are less well-equipped than this one with similar price tags. Besides that, how many other blue water cruisers in this size range can get into the shallow Bahamian marinas that this one can? Most of them have drafts of 6’ or more, which can really limit your options in that part of the world.
