The Next Evolution of Human Capability: Merging Humans & Robots | Connor Glass | TEDxBoston

How do we connect complex robotic systems to the human body so that they function like natural body parts? Whether it be amputation and prosthetics or human augmentation and exoskeletons, this is a problem our government has spent many billions of dollars trying to solve. In this talk we will explore some of that work, its shortcomings, and ways Dr. Glass and others are seeking to translate that work into widespread impact for patients.
Brain, Cyborg, Medicine, Neuroscience, Robots, Technology Dr. Connor Glass is the Founder & CEO of Phantom Neuro which seeks to enable lifelike control of prosthetic limbs and exoskeletons for individuals with limb difference and beyond. Dr. Glass received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine followed by a research fellowship in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he studied surgical interventions for neuromuscular injury and advanced prosthesis control. He is the primary inventor of a minimally invasive implantable neural interface which his company now seeks to commercialize and has raised over $11 million in venture capital to that end. Dr. Glass has multiple publications on nerve injury and neuromuscular reconstructive surgery. His work has been featured in outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Axios, and STAT. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
