    RIP NOLE... wanted to give him a name... I think it's time that Nora gets trapped and gets that tattoo that I hate so much but it's worse to see her torture these poor babies... she may suffer from things we just can't pin point foe sure but she definitely should get that tattoo... hopefully someone give word to the people that handle that and they actually tattoo a female that 100% deserves it...

    It’s a precarious balance: the monkeys are fed by humans but they remain wild? I don’t like that they have become reliant in humans out of necessity & good reason, but to intervene with ONE monkey who is clearly suffering from some sort of mental health issues w/her babies? How? Gypsy too! Tina? It is simply deeply sad. RIP baby!

    @@margaretgilbert8991 The tattoo is an indicator to us humans, that the monkey has been neutered, it means nothing to the troupe members. This can happen to either males or females, depending on where they are caught in one of the two traps on Monkey Hill. It is also not confined to monkeys, as Hogs that inhabit the forest and Monkey Hill road are also neutered as well, if they are caught in one of the traps. It is done to try and control the troupe populations. There are on KZread some videos of the process being undertaken in Vietnam. Some countries, cull a set number each year (Singapore I think), which is reported in their newspapers. AM did some statistics in one of his investigatory videos: it may have been the Q&A Retained placentas & infant Mortality rate one, viewable on his channel. Basically, the females in a troupe will produce a baby inside of 5.5 months, and usually have a baby, every year or other year depending on how proactive the alpha male is in the troupe. Also a troupe will double its numbers in 4 years.

    @@margaretgilbert8991 , if a monkey has a tattoo on its chest, it means it's either been neutered or spayed. They do it by tubal ligation, so the monkeys still have their ovaries and testes intact. In other words, they have no clue that anything has changed .

    Being the matriarch isn't a chosen position like alpha male is. The way I have always heard it is hierarchy in the troop, usually a daughter. And Arroz does state around 5 years ago there were no struggles with the birth that year. I really believe after watching this video there are really mental issues going on, postpartum. My opinion. This is the most vicious, deranged behavior I have seen so far. Was very hard to watch that little baby suffer so by the hands of it's mother. Even the way she ate her food was deranged behavior. As much as I think a female should not be fixed this is one monkey that should be for each year her behavior only continues to escalate. Wonder what the future holds for this troop?

  • @jcgraham8808

    @jcgraham8808

    Жыл бұрын

    The mental issue is real, I think. I’m bad with names of most of the adults, but Flöffi’s sister that swiped and starved her baby looked looney as hell. I just don’t think an intelligent species has mother-figures that harm a dependent as normal behavior. I chalk both of those up as monkeys suffering mental illness. The two that really upset me are Tina Teeny’s mom taking food from her pouches and Gypsy torcher-weening her babies weeks before other mothers, or just leaving the baby to fend for itself and going on an adventure. The difference lies in the will, or ability, to know they are doing harm. Does any of that seem plausible? I’m interested in feedback to get my thinking in line. Thanks for reading along.

  • @anngifford9053

    @anngifford9053

    Жыл бұрын

    @@jcgraham8808 personally as far as Tina good believe a learned action as well as rank and amount of food. I believe she knows what she is doing but also with a learned trait would be hard for an animal to stop. She is also bullied around food so she goes hungry and therefore steals from baby. Watching different videos I have learned with these monkeys that even though mom's will share some with babies, their babies are not first when come to food like we see in other animals like dogs and cats that they will allow offspring to eat first. So with Tina being low her first thought is on her own living for if she dies then she can no longer bear children but if she lives she can bear another baby. So preservation is on self. As far as Gypsy goes I think hers is a combination of learned and self preservation and her own personality. She also is low rank, have seen her bullied around food. But with being feed more during COVID she was a somewhat better as a mother, more loving, snuggles and more milk bar time. Between habit and being bullied also rules what she does. She has learned she needs to go looking for food more then the higher rank monkeys so that means she goes on journeys. So I believe she is aware of what she is doing but does not have a choice. I believe after watchering her during COVID she appears to really want to be that dotting mom but she also needs to survive. As far as Nora goes she shows signs and looks of mental health. But watching Nora part 2 with the baby you can see it especially when she has the baby up around her neck. When she is struggling with him you can almost see the little devil and angel as depicted in older shows of right and wrong. It was like I can't stand this little thing but she was conflicted but this is my baby. She looked tormented. Don't really believe in her state she understands the harm she is doing. Whatever hormones are out of whack drives her insane. Female humans can have those issues also and if in a true mental state caused by hormones they are not aware of the harm they are doing. Some women see what is happening and know to seek help where others cannot see help is needed and either help is realized by those around her or after she has harmed the baby in some way. I am not totally convinced she is proposely driven to hurt her newborns. But I would like to see her no longer be able to bear children. She is getting worse with each pregnacy with this one being the most violent. I have not seen many of her later videos and have not seen how Nora is today so can't say how she has responded with hormones leveling out. So as far and Tina and Gyspy go I believe they are more a product of their rank and how they were pushed as low ranking but Nora I believe is biology. I could be wrong but these are my observations

    I fully support Arroz’ theory that she suffers from postpartum depression. The surprising part is that she doesn’t abandon the infant as soon as she delivers it. Sadly that is a known macaque behavior. We saw it happen with newborn Charlotte and with a few other mothers who have “adopted” infants and nursed them. It’s not necessarily common behavior but it’s not unheard of. However, Nora’s behavior is deliberately cruel. She is not placing her survival over that of her offspring. We have seen that with Gypsy & Tina. She is torturing that poor little thing. She knows how to care for an infant. She waits until the baby has exhausted itself and isn’t protesting and then she grabs a tail or leg and drags or swings him around. Only a few days old and it’s finding out just how cruel the world can be.

    @@quietinspirationcreations3448 Ya know I was thinking something about that theory. But I got sidetracked, if the baby had died Nora was spotted without a baby. Not carrying her dead infant? Lack of motherly nurturing or care? What happened to her instincts? Yes, I know postpartum depression or whatever but she still was protective to a degree. She was careless in dragging them and the way she held them and also not holding a newborn high up in the tree. She is aware she is a mother again. No way of knowing without 24hr surveillance. Could it be possible she lost her baby somehow and another picked it up? Will we notice another female with her infant? Or a female with "twins"... Anything is possible. But I do think about after Charlotte was abandoned even other troops that came along didn't pick her up and but became defensive if a human got close. This time I don't think its dead...

    @@pitbull1026 We can certainly hope he's not gone, it's quite rare for a 'twin', whether real or an acquired extra baby, to survive, as they simply don't get enough to eat. With food being plentiful right now, and it being birthing season, he has the best possible odds since many females will be producing milk anyway. In an ideal world a mom that delivers a stillborn, would find a baby like Nora's, but we have seen another Monkey Hill set of twins thrive recently, so there's still hope. All that said, I don't think AM would have included the end bit, saying RIP if he knew baby may be surviving with a new mom, there's always the possibility the he was picked up by a different troop or one of us bipedal primates, we'll probably never know!!

    That little baby is dead now … starved, beaten crushed and dragged by its own mother. It’s only known hunger and cruelty…. And Nora has tortured it’s little spirit out of any instinct for survival. Just heartbreaking.,. Nora must be tattooed. Her predisposition as an alpha leader overrides any instinct or inclination of mothering. If she were human she would likely never choose to be a mother but Nora has no control over her reproductive system and is bearing a new baby each year that she doesn’t want and will not care for. Her cruelty is just striking tho …. Letting her infant starve to death while it’s hanging onto her and begging for any nourishment or chance of life is truly sadistic. Why doesn’t she just leave the poor thing on the ground where it could be adopted or cared for by Nan or others in the group …..or at least allow it to die in peace. btw you can see how Nora’s abuse of her newborns traumatizes and upsets the whole group, many of whom want to rescue and care for it, but they’re all too hesitant to challenge Nora in any way. Too bad they can’t just assign a new alpha bc her leader style diminishes the well-being of the while group.

    This behavior that Nora is exhibiting reminds me of Amari and how she treated Lori a couple of years ago in Cambodia. Amari was also the matriarch of the troup. And she took her job so seriously that baby Lori would suffer neglect as a result. And just like Nora, Amari could be distracted with food and as a result, Lori would get the opportunity to nurse. Otherwise Lori was left to fend for herself. It really makes me wonder if some macaque matriarchs have an almost impossible feat of multitasking between the baby's needs and the troup's needs. I would like to welcome any ideas, thoughts, and/or comments about this. I am truly intrigued! 🐵🐒

    The only girl of hers that’s survived her is Celessa. If she continues to neglect her babies to death and Celessa is caught in the cage, her line ends. I hope if Celessa ever becomes a mother she has an alternate method of parenting. Post-parting depression, hormones, whatever the cause, it’s not Nora that suffers, it’s the babies that end up living short, tortured lives. I pray it’s not genetic (though Norma and Nan don’t have that disposition, nor do any of Norma’s daughters, so there’s hope for Celessa).

    Yes, but isn't that a little bit ambivalent? Nature is cruel, indeed, and we are so bewildered because we think and know primates to be very intelligent. The more intelligence, the less instinct, at the other side. So we can believe in Nora's purposeful cruelty as well as in an insanity or abnormal behaviour. But so far: human primates do abort children, if they want no more. I definitely do not want to make the abortion discourse here, but we don't know, whether an embryo feels hurt when being scratched out from his/her mother's uterus. And there is definitely no death penalty for that. So this discussion of a non human primate is a little bit hypocritical. But to leave that neuralgic point of abortion (I'm neither American nor a fundamentalist christian) and to turn to the second point: Human primates have effective methods of contraception if they want to avoid further offsprings. Monkeys don't have if not by human intervention. So, if they don't want to care for more offsprings, be it because overwhelmed by her duties as alpha or by common exhaustion in higher age or by having given birth to a hybrid they don't want (also racism seems to be not only in human primates!) they neglect or kill it. Maybe other mechanisms take place, like @shannonspage9360 describes. We had a contrary case in the Cambodian troop, where a Grandma nursed her grandchild after the mother died.

    Its like she wants to take care if it - just not let it near her nipples. I can't imagine what could be going on with Nora. I wonder what Nora's mother was like. They say that its a good indication of how a monkey will be a mother. Was she a good mom or an abusive mom? Or was it just enough for nora herself to survive till she could forage as a baby. Except Vince was far too well cared for and fed. Maybe she just didn't want THAT experience again. I mean, he got so fat it was like she had no clue how to say no at first and then it was just all "no" to the next baby at first till instinct kicked in. Maybe there was a hormone imbalance that had her just so no to the rest of the babies. So sad. I know Nan would have fed those babies but Nora would just not let go. I think Nan knows that Nora will pull that baby so hard she'll kill it if Nan grabs for it. Poor baby, poor Nan. Crazy poor Nora.
