As a Yankee fan, we all knew how important it was to win early. With Cole out for two months, the idea of falling behind early in this fierce division was very possible. I felt that if we can stay with Baltimore through the start of the season, we'd have a very good chance to take the division, as we should only get better (barring major injuries) with Cole coming back and a hopefully successful trade deadline. I can say that I am very happy and confident about starting 6-1 on a road trip against two of the best teams in the league. I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but we are in a great spot. Judge still hasn't hit his hot streak, Cole will be back probably by June, Dominguez by July, young guys improving. This is exciting as ever.

Frankly, as a Yankees fan, it is only reassuring to see as many hardened and skeptical Yankees fans are there now appear to be. The franchise kind of encourages a sense of entitlement by living in the past, and following antiquated tradition. But the fan base broadly seems to understand we need to be more than just Yankees to be champions.

@@davewolf6256 Yes, we got spoiled 1996-2000. Then came one too many near misses. We’ve been waiting for the mojo to kick in again…and waiting…and waiting… We wanted Soto and Yamamoto and came away half satisfied. Soto is exciting to watch and will be worth watching. Pitching will keep the faithful up nights. There’s no slam dunk here. Maybe that’s a good thing.

Love or hate them, this Yankees lineup is fun to watch. So dynamic. And that's with Judge, Torres, Stanton and Rizzo off to slow starts. (Not that I think Stanton is likely to ever speed up)

The Yankees need to promote Ian Hamilton as the closer, Clay Holmes has been very shady when closing out the game. My blood pressure goes up with him in the 9th inning.

As a Yankee fan, I think youre right, theres a lot of good so far. Team is pitching well, playing defense, and actually running the bases. That being said, if Soto and/or Judge go down with an injury, our depth is going to be tested, and I'm not confident in it. Gonna be a fun season with Soto, but I want to see them doing this in July before I believe

As a Yankees fan I can say that from an outsiders perspective we have had very mediocre pitching with great offense. But… that is without the fact acknowledging the two teams that we have faced so far with a history of great at-bats, you brought up that great point and overall makes me feel a little better about our pitching.

We don’t show our asses fully until July. By then every key player is hurt and nobody can stay off the DL. Stanton can go on it all he wants. That might help us lol but everyone else…geez

Juan Soto is making a huge impact of course but the Yankees best hitter so far has been Volpe. He’s made a gigantic jump very quickly. If he’s even 70% of the guy he’s been so far this season for the rest of his career, the Yankees are going to be very very dangerous

Yes, they are six and one. Yes, they won three by coming back from a deficit. Yes, the sweep of Houston was deeply satisfying. That said, most of their starting offence is hitting below the Mendoza line. Judge is whiffing a lot. Stanton looks lost. It's early, so I'm not overly concerned. Soto, Cabrera, Volpe, plus a lot walks won four of those six. They could easily be three and four. As I said, it's early so no sweat yet. We'll see what happens. All I'm saying is this: If the rest of the team doesn't improve offensively, the Yanks could quickly sink in the standings once their luck runs out. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this doesn't happen, but we all know it could ... and quickly.

As a Mets fan, I am glad he is out of my division. He is a nightmare to get out.

The Yankees front office will find a way to ruin his talent like they've done to so many other hitters. This organization's hitting philosophy comes from people who have never batted in thier life and think they know what they're talking about caused they looked at the numbers that are convenient for the philosophy they want to push. (Launch angle + exit velocity = easy homeruns and just wait for the pitcher to make a mistake instead of learning how to deal with good pitches) Judge tried to warn us last year with that interview where he said the front office isn't using data correctly. But the fact that the Yankees have already been shutout twice in 8 games is a huge red flag that they're still forcing a philosophy that is going to have wildly inconsistent results.

As for Stanton -- he picked up right where he left off last year -- strikes out incessantly and is batting .150. I'm a Yankee fan. However, I think reality will catch up soon enough. This roster is not nearly as impressive as you're suggesting.

@@boguy3242 Nope. Disagree. The 2022 yankees got off to a phenomenal start and were 64-28 in the first half of the season, then went 35-35 the second half of the season and folded. During their great run (won 15 straight home games at one point), I kept questioning why as their team stats versus the rest of the league were not good at all. This seems like deja vu all over again. Don't just go by wins versus losses, look at how their stats stack up against the rest of the teams.

Been pushing for them to make a trade for him for the past couple years. I thought we should have traded Torres, moved Peraza/DJ (before he got hurt) to second and traded for Arraez and play him at third. The top 3 would have somewhere between .400-.415 cumulative OBP. Though if Volpe keeps hitting like this, he seems destined for the role.

Clay Holmes is not mid. Go look at his numbers as a Yankee. Highest ERA was 2.87, he has like a 170 ERA+, nobody with an ERA+ that high is mid, that's elite territory.

The starting pitching hasn't looked all that good. The bullpen has been "lucky lights out" like Holmes who gets rocked and winds up with saves. The loss of Cole is going to catch up to them in the coming weeks. And don't think Cole is just going to come back and be Cy Young caliber.

Holmes isn't a great closer. But being a ground ball pitcher leaves him primed for double plays often. It's scary but, so far, effective.

Stroman/Rodon/Gil have, albeit in just 4 total games, a combined ERA of 1.84 Schmidt had a bad first inning and then pitched great. Only one I'm worried about is Cortes.
