If you've served in the Military, this training is nothing... really. I served 31 years Army VET (ex Drill Sergeant) & the instructors did very well. Respect. It's all about attention to detail, comradeship, discipline, teamwork, safety & the gut's to perform your sworned duty to serve & protect once you get that badge.

If you played football in high school the training is easy also. Believe me I was a quarterback in my sophomore Junior and senior years and was in top top shape. Never joined the military went to college and work at American Airlines as a customer service manager.

This job should only be taken if you literally have no other options in life; especially if you are a white male. Anyone thinking of taking this job I assure you it is nothing like you are picturing. There are no hiring standards, no training, no one has your back, the dept itself hates you and so does the city. You will deal with impossible high risk situations daily and even if you do everything right you can still have your life destroyed if the wrong political/racial winds blow your way, which happens often. The precincts are dilapidated and equipment doesn't work or is missing. If you're real lucky you can even go out on patrol in a sector car where the roof lights don't turn on...trust me on this one.

It’s a shame cause the I have always put NYPD at a high standard but this video did look like a lot of those recruiters are soft and have no idea about street life.

If you grew up in San Diego, the NYC summers (and obviously winters) are extremely different. A normal August day 95 degrees with high humidity will feel like the 130 degree Persian Gulf to someone from San Diego. That’s part of why Parris Island Marines talk shit about “Hollywood” Marines who go through MCRD San Diego. East coast summers are insanely different from west coast.

A police officer (no matter the race) who rose their right hand and swore to protect and serve under the state government is in no way tantamount to some random black thug on the street who simply decided to kill another black person. Physical standard's as well as IQ have definitely been ignored by the politician's. Many of the police reports are so poorly written........this unfortunately is occuring in many law enforcement agencies in the USA. Thank you for sharing this video. NYPD definitely has lost it's rich tradition. God bless the moral men and women in law enforcement 🙏

Chris Redfield everything they do is actually taken from the military, including evaluating one’s fat to body index. One thing you forgot to mention is the time you’re in training. A cop in nys must complete 26 weeks minimum by law, but many will do 10 months depending on need. After that training Every cop works the streets, does every solder go into war? No they don’t. Every cop must train throughout their entire career, what’s the requirements for the army? Cops must deal with the many changing laws and dept policies in this state and city. Yes state laws and local laws. As well as all the millions of different emotional motherfuckers on those streets. Cops do it alone in many cases. You as a solder are never left alone to do shit.

22.5 or 25 for 3% COLA. When Patterson was in office he refused to sign the Tier 2 extender bill effectively placing all new hires (myself included) into Tier 3. Tier 3 is awful and removed most of the benefits that made the job worth taking. Most new recruits have no idea about this, at least not a single person in my class did. They even removed 3/4 but that has recently been reinstated although you will pay for it now. No more ITHP either. This was one of the many reasons I left that sinking ship..best decision of my life. My friends still on say I wouldn't even believe how much worse it has become. It's like the NYPD doesn't want qualified, solid people on the job anymore. Diversity at all costs and to hell with everything else. Doesn't matter if you can't pass the exams, the range, the run, etc...those that can't will still be standing next to the ones that could at MSG on graduation day. And then the real cops will be forced to work with them at their own peril on the streets of NYC. An impossible situation and one that should be avoided at all costs.

For a higher level it's a 3 year bachelor programm and if you want to go into higher levels you need a further 2 years at the German Police University to earn your Masters! Jesus! I can anyone with just 6 months (and that's aparantly a lot) of training be allowed to enforce the law while carrying a gone! No wonder, the police in the US fucks up so often!

@@rodrikforrester9343 - Thanks... But it's a common sense thing that young/newer officers don't see because they lack the experience of going "hands on" on the job when it requires it. For the life of me, I do NOT understand why the dept also allows women OR men with long hair or long BRAIDED hair on patrol. Asking for trouble if the shit ever hit the fan should the officer ever need to get physical. First thing female perps OR females who resist DO is grab hair. I've seen female perps get control of a physical confrontation by grabbing a female officer's hair and the female officer would have been in deeper shit if they were NOT with a partner. Grabbing hair controls the head and that, controls the direction of where the body goes. Not rocket science... Some departments frown on officers grabbing anyone by the hair, but there is no rule for perps to follow it. Yeah, call me an "old-timer". Been retired for over 20 years but in this case, I've SEEN it. Some people think that the belief of NOT allowing long facial hair or long hair on patrol is "outdated, archaic" or even "sound like an idiot", SO BE IT. It's not me on patrol anymore and I won't be the one who could get my ass kicked (or worse) simply because I believe in me having long hair.
