The new tariffs levied by Biden are designed to sound tough, without upsetting China

Ғылым және технология

A line-by-line analysis of the new tariffs unveiled by the Biden Administration suggests that they were carefully designed to seem tougher than they really are.
Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin are Midwestern swing states that will largely determine the winner of November's elections, and harsh new trade policies on China are favored by voters in all three. But Biden can ill afford any new policies that make inflation worse, let alone a full-blown trade war.
The tariffs on Electric Vehicles and lithium batteries were widely expected, but Chinese aren't selling EV's in the US yet. For other products, the trade volumes are too low to affect much, as Chinese manufacturers have already moved supply chains for them to Chinese factories outside Mainland China. On others, the tariffs don't even kick in until 2025 or 2026.

Amusing baloney There are only 3 markets large enough to potentially satisfy China's manufacturing capacity... The EU, the US and China itself. China's consumers aren't buying because of how bad China's economy is. The EU allows Chinese imports but is stunned and repulsed by the massive numbers of EVs that suddenly showed up in ports. China isn't yet allowed to sell EVs in quantity in the US but after seeing what's happening in Europe isn't likely going to change import barriers.

If you understood the long term negative impacts that this is going to have on the American economy? You would not be so certain of yourself. America is WAY behind in the transition. And eventually the embedded costs of their energy structure is going to render the economy non competitive on the global stage.

of course, this also meant that American products cannot sell to China as well, oops, most American products are expensive for China and China do not need them. soon, even those American products that is still selling to China will be hit for sure, as can be seen, China do not retaliate immediately, they will do when they had done all proper due diligence. since thanks to the sanctions, China is going big in semiconductors, it will be very likely that mature nodes chips will no longer be allowed to be sold in China. China is waiting for after the election to see how long the dagger should be.
