I was in management from 97 till 2001 , I'd say I have the opposite feeling toward the job, they really stole a bonus from us in the xmas of 2000, record profits in the company and they in turn took our bonus away in the 4th quarter claiming after, when it was supposed to be paid out that they were "restructuring" the bonus plan, meaning they didnt pay us one. Not to mention forcing us to ram those Entertainment weekly subscriptions down customers throats which in turn earned them a class action lawsuit later in which they lost. it was an okay job and i do have some good memories but equally lots of bad ones.

Nice to see Barnes & Noble is hanging in there. I worked there when I was in high school. I remember we had a midnight release event when the fourth or fifth Harry Potter book came out. I got caught up in the hype and ended up buying all of the books that had been released at that point, even though I was the wrong age by a few years. I wasn’t allowed to work past 11 because I was under 18 (or maybe it was a 10PM cut off. I can’t remember). But I was dating one of the assistant managers, so I just kind of hung out off the clock. The place was packed with parents and kids. Which seemed weird, to bring kids to a midnight release on what I believe was a school night. On the other hand, it’s probably a fun memory for them. I remember going to a late night screening of Batman (1989) when I was 7. After the movie, my brother and I got a few of the action figures. They had a bunch of merchandise at the theater. That was the first movie that I remember being heavily merchandised. I was born in 1982, so I missed out on the original Star Wars films. But back then, it was unusual to have so much tie in merchandise for a movie. That summer, it seemed like everyone had a t-shirt with the bat logo on it. Anyway, remember the figures on those gold card backs? My brother and I both got a Batman and I got the Joker and my brother got “Bob” the henchman that gets shot (stupidest action figure ever; they might as well have a “Random Bystander” figure). Oh! I just remembered, we both got a die cast ERTL Batmobile. There was a radio station van asking trivia questions and my Mom got asked who played the Penguin in the Batman TV series and she correctly said, Burgess Merideth (I don’t know if I spelled that right). She won two free tickets to a screening of the film even later in the night. I think our screening was 9PM and then there was going to be a midnight showing. So my Mom found a couple waiting in line and gave the tickets to them. Long story short, I suppose all those parents at the Harry Potter event were probably right.

Yes those were the first action figures we got after the Superpowers toy line, Bobby lol everyone had him :) his hat never sat right on his head, Joker had the longest chin and I was always afraid of pulling Batman’s belt I was afraid of that string breaking. We got the DC Super heroes toy line to follow and really resembled the old Superpowers Kenner. When I read your old days working at Barnes it reminded me of working at Hardee’s, I couldn’t do everything until 16 years old I started at 14. Great memories :)

My local Mall still has an F.Y.E which is similar to Suncoast. A lot of F.Y.E's have a more updated design. But the one in the mall near me feels like the older stores. Though sadly it is getting updated. They used to have 2 racks of CDs and like 4 racks of DVD/Blu-Rays. Now CDs has a small rack on the mall and the DVD/Blu-Rays are down to 2 racks. They have a huge island for Vinyls. The whole back wall is Funko pops. They have action figures(that are way over priced), clothes, headphones, little knick knacks and a lot of international foods now. But it always gives nostalgia going into them. Not quite the same. But Hot Topics haven't really changed that much.

Hollywood mall, Hollywood Fashion, and Aventura. one of my friends came out of one mall and stepped in paint. he slipped with his new jacket in hand right in front of one of the entrance ways. it was always funny to see his footprints and slip marks which they never removed until the mall closed for a super walmart. alot of good memories. thanks sharing. also thanks for being able to carry a conversation without all the. cussing others do have a great day to you and Kellie.

The malls were packed all the stores were in business not one single space was empty. I remember going with my mom and she would get us a toy at Walmart. Walmart would connect to the mall, there we would take a little break and stop an grab a bite to eat at a restaurant called the snack shack. I remember going to the mall in 1989 and it was exciting. Some of the best and happiest memories I'll cherish is purchasing my first Kiss t-shirt (Smashes, Thrashes and Hits) for $20 at Hastings music. (Yep, I blew my birthday money there, heh! 😂), then my older sister and I went to Claires Boutique and bought the popular teenage staple of super thin black jelly bracelets because we seen Skid Row wearing them in a Metal Edge magazine pinup (I still have said pinup). We pooled our allowance money to buy those bracelets which were $2.50 for a pack of six. We each got exactly $2.50 allowance money every other week. Then we raced each other on a "green light go!" to the food court. My older sister's relative was working at the Nut Hut and she used to give us a handful of freebie Sour Patch Kids (extremely sour bittersweet candy that we never had prior to 1989) and the original gummy colas (Coke bottle looking gummies). Those were so good way back then! On a separate occasion my older sister and I went to see the Ghostbusters 2 premiere at the Mall in the theater. My sister had saved up her babysitting money to afford the tickets. It was great times back then since going to the mall was not even once a weekend nor even a once a month thing growing up for us. It was a real treat to have our parents drop us off because we lived clear across town. There's a mall where I live nowadays, but it doesn't have that same 80's/early 90's nostalgic feeling anymore. There's only less than a handful of stores in my local Mall and none have anything in them that would get me to spend money in them. I think what killed retail is the advent of online shopping, at least it put a crimp in physical leisure shopping but thats just my opinion.

Along with my Back to the Future Trilogy on DVD I picked up new at Walmart in December of 2002 when that movie franchise was first released on DVD. PD7, A cool space indeed, and I guess if we're just talking products, I can see the Suncoast connection. However, the feel of this space doesn't remind me of the Suncoast's I went to. More like the newer FYE stores. The Suncoast's I frequented back in the day were pretty tight, and not ideal to navigate when there were a decent number of people in the store, maybe 10 to 20. Not as tight, space-wise, like a Hot Topic or Spencers, but still enough racks and products everywhere to give it more of a claustrophobic and packed feel. The Suncoast's I remember were also darker in theme, they had this cool red and black look going on. Still, I'm glad you found another place that gives you those nostalgic vibes. vgv

Dude, with all due respect, I am genuinely growing tired of your misleading thumbnails and titles. I understand that there's a "game" involved when it comes to generating interest for your channel and videos. I get it. But, no offense, and this is constructive criticism, it feels like clickbait. That image you used is from a Suncoast store that currently exists in Dayton, Ohio, and was covered by the @Sets, Streets & Eats KZread channel. But I'm sure you knew that.

Suncoast brings back memories. Did you have any Media Plays in your area? What's your opinion on the Final Fight cabinet? One popped up on marketplace new in the box for $200 in my area. I'm thinking about getting it since nothing new is coming out. Great video PD7 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hey Gold Mine, is Media Plays like CD exchange? Or brand new cds / dvds? I think about Marvel Superheroes for that exact same reason. 200 for new isn’t bad, would you purchase a light up marquee mod? I’m debating a few myself, I’m not super excited to spend money but I don’t want to miss out on something. Thank you :)

@@PDX7 I think I’m going to get it. I’ll definitely add a lighted marquee and a coin door. I’m on the fence on a TNMT cab in mint condition with a stool for $300 but it’s a 3 hour round trip. Did your Barns and Noble around you never have a media area? or did you not ever got into Barns really? They always had that area of the store, even back in the 90s. Not trying to be rude here but it’s just one, I thought you found out and were going to an actual Suncoast that happened to come back by the title I saw and two you sound blown away by that part of the store but Barns & Noble always had a media area.
