The glaring silence where CB would usually be is so funny. I get that maybe it's like they're freezing in place like setting cement, but I like to imagine it's just CB's threatening aura.

If you listen closely, you can hear CB groan right before the Freight starts singing the revised verse. /j

Starlight Express was originally intended to be a musical adaptation of the Thomas the Tank Engine books, but the author, Rev. W. Awdrey, refused Lloyd Webber permission, so he had to come up with his own characters. But the freight trains almost sound like they could be the troublesome trucks from Thomas.

To the people asking; the performers did not change names/lyrics. Andrew Lloyd Weber rewrites this musical every several years so there are multiple different version.

to all asking CB stood for Caboose as in the Red Caboose. they havent cut him, they just changed the name

​@@cameronknapp7315 Because the "Down the track, from A to B and back..." verse was originally this. The character of CB the Red Caboose was cut during this period so his intro verse was changed to the part you hear now.

I remember Ashley smoking a cigarette on stage in the 90s. it'll be an e-cig now!

Good version, but it just ain’t the same without CB! What was ALW and his crew thinking when they cut him from the revival? You don’t get rid of your main villain! That’s like cutting Iago from Othello!

They cut C.B. completely? D: Also, they seemed to have changed the lyrics a little. Now why did they do that?

Why they get rid of C.B

I love Greg Ellis, KFTD, Algeron Williams, Rory Williams, Graham Martin, Richard Mylan, Samantha Lane, Voyd, Caron Cardelle, and Reva Rice.

There’s a distinct lack of cb in this version 🤔 I’ll stick with the original for this song

CB is now called Red Caboose

Flattop sounds like a goat on fire, Caboose is not trying and the Rookies sound like 50 year old men😰

I really hate how in this version, the coaches are portrayed as pure dicks to the freight cars.

Such lazy lyrics.
