TV Yellow, silver mist. If I can find an extra dark example of the teal that would be #1 and hopefully the sg special gets some color treatment as well. I think they only offer ebony at the moment. Need an Inverness green sg special!!

Picked up a Full Face Ebony Standard 2023, I am more traditional with colors, Yeah neck dive is an issue, I am currently in progress of balancing it out, I like the pickups so Ill be keeping them and everything is fine Electronically, Probably I'll make a harness(its standard JST connector) for the output jack using a chrome Puretone instead of the Switchcraft. Only issue I have is Frets are a little scratchy they need to be polished and the Fretboard is a little course like it wasn't fine sanded enough, not that I should have to but its light finishing work. Upgrades or ascetic choices, I hopped over to Philadelphia Luthiers Picked up a Chrome Truss Rod Cover, Bone Nut, Full Bell Brass plated Chrome Nashville and TOM stop which should add a bit of weight, Chrome etched Poker Chip with Chrome Switch Tip, and 4 Brass Chrome Plated bell hat Knobs, Hipshot open gear locking Tuners. Don't like the Pickguard, the white doesn't match the binding, I am thinking either a Pearloid or Chrome 1-ply acrylic Pickguard just to match my tastes a little better(Bagging all the original parts as usual to go with the guitar). Still I have to say This may very well be the lowest action guitar I have ever setup the fret height is perfect and truss rod adjustment is very fine and smooth, When Gibson gets it right they really get it right but it wouldn't be a Gibson without some finishing work :-) PS- I would suggest getting a clear pickguard for that teal, it looks so nice and get some clear Speed knobs Take a piece of paper, rub out the cavity, cut, and put a 1 ply black inlay into the exposed cavity to cover up the unfinished areas.

Agreed. That transparent teal is a show stopper. It will be my next SG. I will go for the 61 as I have a batwing already, and I kinda like more of that beautiful finish to show. I love that Gibson is doing this! Also the standard I have has the 490 set. They sound great. I put a 498 T in the bridge as an experiment and I took it right back out because that set sounds great as it is.
SGs look great in any colour - but the weird thing is, different colours seem to enhance different aspects of that beautiful shape.

Well said!
just bought a lefty Gibson SG in Ebony, noticed that my bridge pickup was also being overpowered by the neck pickup! Small raise did the trick.
It would be neat if Gibson would allow customers to semi-custom order these, like for example, the customer could choose the color, tuning key style (Kluson or Grover), pickguard style (61 or batwing), neck profile (50s or 60s), knob style (reflector or speed), and case type (soft or hard). Gibson could crank out husks with the correct color and neck profile and then attach a build sheet for the final assembly! I would like a 60s neck Teal SG with Grover tuners, 61 small guard, reflector knobs, and a hardshell case.
@mariuszw9665

Hell yes! It would be so awesome, I wish I could order SG exactly like Standard 61', but with batwing pickguard and in Heritage Cherry color. SG Standard has pickguard and color I like, but has thicker neck (I prefer slim taper) and grover tuners, which are awesome tuners, but I like SG with Kluson's. Standard 61' on the other hand has better electronics and pickups, but I don't like small pickguard. I can live with vintage color, but I would change it on Heritage Cherry if I could. Tough choice for me. Both guitars are great, and overall beautiful, but because of those differences I can't decide which to choose.
@mariuszw9665

... and it sucks that I can't choose which hardshell case I want, because no matter which SG I eventually choose (Standard or Standard 61') I know I want to grab modern black hard case, not the brown one. If I choose 61', I will have to buy black one and sell original. Not being able to choose what I want makes no sense.

I'd order mine with an ABR-1 bridge and a volute.
I bought a modern standard in the Pelham Blue Burst finish and I absolutely love it. One thing I found that helped with the neck dive a little bit: I changed the metal buttons on the Grovers to plastic keystone buttons from the Kluson Revolution series. Saved about 56 grams, or 2 ounces, and while it didn't 100% solve neck dive it made it much more manageable. Factor in a decently wide strap and you'd have nothing to worry about!
@frankwebster9110
8 ай бұрын
If those kluson revolutions give you any issues, the Gotoh 3x3 vintage are rock solid. I tried the kluson revolutions and found the gears to be a bit loose. Also, the set I got didn't have a retainer notch or whatever so that whenever I unscrewed the locking knobs a bit too much, they would fall out. Maybe I got a bad set. Not sure.
@ArmandoLopez-qt6vz

@frankwebster9110 Roger that. I didn't want to make any permanent modifications to the headstock by drilling a new hole for those vintage style tuners.I just switched out the buttons on the grovers, which is totally reversible and I get to keep that 18:1 ratio.

Wait long enough the clear coat will yellow and turn the guitar green anyway !
I bought one of these too! Just six serial numbers earlier than this one, bright teal as well. It’s out for delivery right now, I’m so excited to get home from work tonight and play it.
I have a 2016 Gibson SG Standard, Cherry Red, Bat-Wing pickguard. It's my daily driver and has been ever since. I will play it 'til my grave. That translucent teal finish is absolutely incredible. I gotta have one some day.
SG tone test mandatory requirement is ACDC and Sabbath
The white one is literally the guitar that got me into playing guitar. Its my drean guitar. I cant believe they re released it, and im so happy they are good this year. Cannot wait to pick one up!
My favorite finish here is the transparent teal. Second place would be the TV yellow. And I much prefer the ‘61-style, as that’s what SGs looked like when I first saw one. The first one I owned was a ‘67 batwing guard one that I got new.

I get some nice jazzy sounds out of them but I can also run them through dirt and get some great rock out of them as well. I like how the bridge cleans up. The middle position is where I live usually though
I just got a Pelham Blue Burst Standard and already love it. Lightweight, the neck feels fantastic, sounds great and man, does it look stunning. Thanks for the review, which definitely influenced me to get one. I couldn’t be happier with it!
Ooh, I luv me some SG's. I've got 2 ('92 Standard & a 2011 '61R). I prefer the aesthetics of the '61R but the '92 Standard is a beast. Out of all my guitars it's the one that never gets put away & sits right next to my amp for when I just feel like plugging in & letting rip. I've owned it for 30 years & I ain't ever letting it go. I really dig the colour of this green one but while I like the 490 neck pups, not really a fan of them in the bridge. They lack a bit of bite imho. I'll have to give these new models a gander.
These color changes finally made me want a SG. I'd go for teal on the 61. The 61 has kluson style tuners which I prefer more as playing it the plastic peg tips dont wear out visually as fast from tuning alot. And the pickguard is ridiculously easy to remove to change guards on a whim. Having the pickups individually mounted makes it simpler to remove one if you want to swap a pickup or repair. And you dont need to remove the bridge to do so. All of that to me far exceeds the $200 price increase. Value is more than just additional features. So that makes the hardshell case a free bonus. If anything the fullguard SG is now overpriced because it's more of a hassle for a live gigging player, and you're still out an additional cost for a proper case.

Im a SG fan, and always been amazed how little Gibson have toyed with this model, always pretty classic and boring. Im a fan of the look of the original SG Melody Makers, those with metallic colours and those single coils pickups, have such a retro-futuristic vibe.

Me too. I love them. They might not be as pretty as a LP but if you want a 'plug in & play' workhorse guitar, you can't go wrong with an SG. They're straight out rock beasts! I've got 2 (92 Standard & a '61R) & I'd recommend them to anyone.
I recently bought a 61 standard aged cherry gold hardware. I love Gibson scale length but even with the slim (er) neck it is still uncomfortably wide all down the neck, I’m 66 and have had surgery on a detached tendon on my fingering arm (I’m right handed) Shorter scale a big help, neck width,a killer. Paying let’s say $2,000 on payments, plays smooth n easy
I've always loved the batwing pickguard. I definitely prefer a chunky neck too so this series is looking very attractive. My son has a vintage white Epi SG with a batwing pickguard. It looks fantastic!
I’m not an SG man however love the overall look of this one and the colour is great. Good to see some SG love from Gibson👍🏻
Wow that translucent teal is definitely the winner! Absolutely stunning
really a shame the sg standard doesn't come with a hardshell.

True
I'm not gonna lie, a blueburst SG with a 50s neck is something I've wanted for pretty much forever. However, with the prices you can find used SGs for and the price hikes on new Gibsons the last 3 years, it's still significant cheaper for me to find a used one and have it refinished. If and when these hit the used market at a good price, though, I'll be happy to pick one up.
I prefer the look of the batwing guard it cleans it up, it gets rid of that little piece of pickguard at the heel of the neck and eliminates the need for pickup rings.
I was going to get a Silver Mist or White, but that Teal is sick! However, it's gotta be the '61.
About bloody time. SGs have been so boring for years now. Although it's hard for me to say this but.... (cough) Well done Gibson 😂😂

Could it be that Gibson are finally realising that young people also buy guitars lol ? I mean, I'm not young but I love these new SGs. Well done the new CEO of Gibson. Not only do I like that finish a whole lot myself, but this particular video is one of the more useful ones. If I did end up breaking down and getting my own SG or SG body shape, it does help to know that the right type of strap helps you combat the top heaviness. A friend of mine has got a leather strap attached to his own SG. It definitely does what it should.

I certainly know about that, @@rainypath96. I've actually got a Telecaster with semi hollow cavities (Modern Player Thinline Deluxe) but a standard neck. It is so lightweight, but the standard neck makes that particular guitar top-heavy. During one gig I did 2 years ago, I was holding that guitar over my shoulder while I played synthesizer, and the headstock eventually drifted down to touch the keys. I had to swivel in order to prevent it from playing a key without my permission. It's not an SG, but the top heaviness is synonymous.

It's going to be all good, they're going to unbox the next one and check it for the correct color. I liked the silver guitar as far as it's fit and finish. But what a disappointment opening the case and finding your guitar is the wrong color. All will work it's self out. Just have to wait a week or a little longer before I get the one I wanted.
Personally, I'm not into the odd colors; I prefer the more traditional hues. I wish that Gibson would give the option of gloss black, sunburst, cherry, etc... regardless the year.
$1799 and they give you a soft case. I get that it’s a nice soft case, but if you’re paying that kind of money, you should be getting a hard case. Or at least be given the option.
Love the show, but instead of heavy distortion- how about a really good tube amp with great overdrive? Might give a different option to those trying to make a decision. Just a suggestion!
I got the classic white 61'. White SG's IMO are the best looking. The 61 plays and sounds better by far with the 60's bursbuckers. I also like the hand wired pots, capacitor, etc.. The standard has the cheapest Gibson pickups offered, along with pcb board and gig bag.
I find push pull pors to be kinda a waste. I have a couple guitars with rhose n i just find them a pain.
They also reissued the Silverburst SG as a GC exclusive. There are so many great colors, I can't pick which one I want

I tried out a 61 and Standard this time last year. My biggest mistake was that I picked a Les Paul and bought that instead. Maybe I should go and try them out again. Brilliant video as always.

The Emerald Green SG looks fairly nice. Though I'm more into the Vintage Cream Blonde colour and Black Ebony's typically or the Pelham Blue.

Teal Batwing, Burstbuckers, klusons and Hard brown case ' ...if you please sir ''
Whoa I'm liking these
It's worth mentioning that the hardware on the standard is chrome where as the 61' has nickel. Slightly different look when new but those will age dramatically different.
Such a nice SG but no hardshell case??
In the past i have added a tire weight in the back cavity because they are adhesive backed and are easily removed as well.
The teal looks amazing but I'm a traditional red good going Gibson teal on a bigsby would look amazing
Also, I think that you should review the '61.
More Classic Bursts for SG’s! That white is nice!
Not that I fiddle with it often, I want a '61 because I don't have to remove the bridge and mess the string height up, the halfguard also looks better to me and I feel the slim taper is more for me as well, currently playing a slightly thinner and narrower ESP Eclipse Standard. I've had an SG Special Faded which had the '50s neck and it felt nice, but so did the Explorer I once had (gotta get my hands on one again, but now it seems they're not really making the regular one anymore for some reason, it's on Gibsons website but was removed from Sweetwater and Thomann..)
Howdy everyone!! Some beautiful SG's. That Teal is outstanding!!!

So what's so amazing about them? They look nice but still have problems which date back to mid 20th century
Love that color but she's lackluster in the tone dept what amp ? Still a good looking sg
I was just shopping for SG's last week. I couldn't find a Trogly video on the 2023's, and honestly the red or black versions are really stale to me. Perfect timing! Glad I waited.
I have both SG standards modern and 61 (with vibrola). I like the pickups on the 61 more, but wish it had a neck like the 50s LP. I do like the tulip button locking Grovers, but don’t like the smaller buttons on this one-would rather have the vintage style on the 61. Can you do a review of the Gibson bag compared to others? Don’t know if I want to buy the Gibson bag or spend more on a Gator Ultra LP case/bag. My SG Standard came with a hard case from Gibson Demo Shop.
Rock this!
they are less "poimty" on the horns eh... i have an 05' standard.... thanks for making me take a second look and appreciating what i have.
If you're wondering why there aren't push-pull pots - try fitting them in a standard-thickness SG alongside the PCB!
Jesus Christ, I'm not spending $1800 or $2000 on a freaking SG.
I’ve only owned one SG in my collection: an SG Menace. I loved the pick-ups, but with its massively chunky neck, it had major neck dive, which drove me crazy. I tried a $7000 Custom Shop ‘61 reissue at GC, and it was perfectly balanced, so zero neck dive. Come on Gibson, you can make SG’s balanced right out of the factory, even if they have chunky necks, without making us spend $7k.
I would take the 61s only because they have the Burst Bucker pickups. My Gibson SG Tribute has the 490s.
Gibson changed the Crown position on the headstock, if you notice the first year of the original collection SGs 2019 had the crown lower. They are more accurate now
61 style all day! I’m still after a brown 70s SG standard with block inlay’s
3:31 Why oh why did they bother with the hole for the pickup wire when it's a Strat style rout? Have just one hole from the bridge pup rout going to the control cavity, tape the wire from the neck pup in place so when the pickguard is put on there's no wire making it bow up. I feel like they did that so people couldn't buy a Standard and half disguise it as a '61 by replacing the big bat wing with a smaller guard.
Does it suffer from the chronic G string tuning issues other Gibsons do?
...after the demo 490R and T sound amazingly superb ' '
I have a 2020 SG standard it’s absolutely great.
Wish they made a blue stained finish, like the teal/green one.
OMG 😳 that green is fantastic 😍. I got my first SG in 2020 straight from Gibson in ebony and it's unbelievably great.
I learned a long ago that high end production line guitars can be tweaked to play just as good as any Custom Shop ones.
Ngl, I still like the vintage cherry more… but the new red burst one looked pretty dope!
I wish they had a solid non burst version of Pelham blue as an option.
